1 INTERNATIONAL ARTICULATION AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS MEDICAL BRANCH AT GALVESTON SCHOOL OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES DEPARTMENT OF CLINICAL LABORATORY SCIENCES ( AND GALVESTON COLLEGE

2 PURPOSE OF PROGRAM To provide an opportunity for qualified international medical laboratory students to receive guaranteed acceptance into a collaborative degree plan offered between Galveston College and the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB) Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences (CLS) Program. ADMISSIONS POLICY. Student satisfies the following requirements for acceptance into the UTMB CLS-Galveston College Collaborative Program: a. Official transcripts of secondary school scores, including mark sheets and date of graduation, in their original language must be submitted to the UTMB CLS Department. i. Foreign transcripts are evaluated by an approved agency. b. Demonstrated language proficiency on the TOEFL minimum score of 550 for the paper version, 2 for the computer version, or 80 for the internet version c. Acceptable pre-entry interview by the faculty of the UTMB CLS Program. This interview is to determine the student s motivation for the CLS health profession, to assess personal qualities deemed valuable to the CLS health profession, to familiarize the student with their UTMB CLS Program, and to allow the student to assess whether such a Program is suited to them. This interview may be conducted by telephone. d. During the first semester of the student s enrollment at Galveston College, completes an UTMB application for the CLS program as a non-degree seeking student and submits all required supporting documents including an Affidavit of Support. Application procedure can be found at: e. Upon meeting admissions criteria set forth in this document, an official acceptance letter from SAHS will be issued. 2. Student applies and is admitted to Galveston College (GC). The requirements for admission include: a. Student meets international entry criteria established by GC (found at: b. An Affidavit of Support with supporting documentation. c. Official transcripts of secondary school scores, including mark sheets and date of graduation, in their original language are required. d. Foreign transcript evaluations by an approved agency. e. Satisfy the Texas Success Initiative through the THEA test, COMPASS test or other equivalent alternatives. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION. Student sends a request for consideration to the UTMB-CLS program sending, a. An transcript evaluation from an approved agency. b. TOEFL scores c. Participates in a pre-acceptance interview 2. UTMB-CLS evaluates applicants for against admissions criteria and sends names of acceptable applicants to Galveston College along with outstanding prerequisites list.. The student enters the associate degree curriculum designed by Galveston College. UTMB advisor works with GC advisor to determine a degree plan that shall include the minimal course requirements as outlined by the UTMB CLS Program below as pre-requisites for the UTMB CLS Program.

3 4. Participants in the guaranteed acceptance program will be assigned an advisor at UTMB to provide the student with a personal contact during the initial course of study at Galveston College. The advisor will also aid the student in the timely completion of processes, such as completing UTMB admissions procedures. 5. Following successful completion of the required UTMB CLS prerequisites at Galveston College, the student IS GUARANTEED ENROLLMENT in the UTMB CLS Program, contingent upon the successful completion of all the following: a. A grade of C or better in all required Galveston College and prerequisite courses. b. A cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above for all courses taken in the two year curriculum. c. A cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above for all required science courses. d. No evidence of Code of Conduct violations during enrollment at Galveston College. 6. The student may be allowed to enter the UTMB-CLS program with 2 semester hours of outstanding non-science prerequisites if they receive credit for CLS courses from their prior laboratory program. These prerequisites will be taken within the first 2 semesters after entry into the UTMB-CLS program. 7. Repetition of courses may be considered acceptable if, in the opinion of the UTMB CLS Program Admissions Committee, the number of these courses is not excessive. All grades of a repeated course are calculated into the student s overall GPA (not simply the latest or best grade). 8. Following successful completion of the combined four-year curriculum at Galveston College and UTMB, the student will be granted a Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences from the University of Texas Medical Branch-School of Allied Health Sciences. 6. Students who do not fulfill the requirements of this guaranteed acceptance program are in no way precluded from applying to the UTMB CLS Program through the usual process. 7. All matriculating students to the UTMB School of Allied Health Sciences must undergo a security background conducted by the contracted service provider. INITIATION OF AGREEMENT Agreement effective Fall TERMINATION OF JOINT AGREEMENT Either party may initiate termination of this joint agreement. Written notice of intent to terminate must be delivered to the other party at least 80 days prior to the effective date of termination. Students enrolled in this guaranteed acceptance program at the time of termination of this joint agreement will be given the opportunity to complete the program in its entirety.

7 LETTER OF AGREEMENT FOR ALLIED HEALTH PROGRAMS Within Allied Health Education in Texas: Guiding Concept for the Eighties (Coordinating Board Study Paper 29), recommendation number states that career mobility should be emphasized in planning all Allied Health Degree Programs. Thus, this collaborative approach to a baccalaureate degree is being implemented as a formal agreement maximizing career mobility for students at Galveston College and the UTMB-School of Allied Health Sciences. The University of Texas Medical Branch will accept 60 semester credit hours of pre-requisites as identified in the above table from Galveston College and apply them towards the baccalaureate degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
