The college was established by Padmabhushan K J Somaiya in It is run by the Somaiya Vidyavihar Trust which is having the status of Gujarati Linguistic Minority. The college is permanently affiliated to University of Mumbai What is the Ranking? KJSCE has been Awarded 'A' Grade by The "NATIONAL ASSESSMENT AND ACCREDITATION COUNCIL" (NAAC) as a Tier I institute (Autonomous) KJSCE College has been listed at the 7th rank amongst top 150 engineering institutes across India and ranked at the 8 th position in top 100 private engineering institutes, in a survey conducted by Times of India (i3rc), for the year National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India every year conducts a survey of all institutes across the country. Ranks are given to various institutes from the data collected through this survey. The highlights of our programs under Autonomy are: Academic calendar of entire year including details of individual semester will be available to students in advance before commencement of the first term. The calendar will include starting and ending date of the term, details of various curricular/ cocurricular/ extra-curricular activities, schedule of examination including internal tests and end semester examination, vacation period etc. This will enable the students to plan their activities beyond college engagements. Provision for enrolling for some audit courses in the areas of interest of a student along with compulsory credit courses of program for which the student has enrolled. These areas may be any of the following and could be extended further if need be. Languages such as Sanskrit, German, Japanese, French, Spanish, Italian Geeta, Yoga Sports like Athletics, Squash, Tennis, Football, Badminton, Kallaripattau, Taekwondo Dance, Music, Drama, Indian Classical Music in Instrumental or Vocal Art such as sketching, painting More transparent examination system, wherein students will be shown their answer papers, both for their internal tests as well as their final examination before declaration of results. This will not only will curtail the need to pay and apply for photocopy & ask for reassessment of answer paper, but will also avoid delay in declaration of results. Provision for a Change of branch after successful completion of first year; subject to availability of a seat in the branch sought. Thus a student who is admitted to a branch which was not his/her first choice; can put extra efforts in the first year which has common syllabus for all branches. 6 Results & Recruitments How are the results of the First year students? The college results of the first year are more than 85% every year. Also, even if a student fails to clear all courses, as per provision of University of Mumbai, admission to a higher semester is permitted by keeping terms of limited no. of subjects of the previous semester Allow To Keep Term (ATKT) in some subjects of the first year. Usually more than 90% of the students are eligible for admission to second year. How is the Campus Recruitment? Most of the students receive job offers during their final year. For the academic year , the number of offers made is 490 as of 28 th May 2018.The campus recruitment process for the current batch is still on. 7 About NRI/PIO/CGW/FN Admissions Definition of NRI/ PIO/ CGW/ FN As per the definitions mentioned in the admission brochure ( ) of the Directorate of Technical Education(DTE), Government of Maharashtra, Please refer to NRI: Non Resident Indian as per the definition given in the section 6 of the Income Tax Act NRI Candidate means a candidate who is a child/ward of the person who has the NRI status as defined under section 6 of the Income Tax Act. PIO: Person of Indian Origin (PIO) or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) means a citizen of any country other than Bangladesh or Pakistan who had (a) at any time held Indian passport or (b) he or either of his parents or any of his grandparents was a citizen of India by virtue of the Constitution of India or the Citizenship Act, 1955 or (c) the person is a spouse of an Indian citizen or a person referred to in (a) or (b), CGW: Children of Indian persons working in Gulf Countries, FN: Foreign nationals, foreign passport holder. How many seats are available for NRI / PIO /CGW /FN students? The NRI / PIO / CGW / FN seats are available only for UG programs. 8 Do you have sponsored NRI seats? Yes, the blood relative can sponsor education of a student. Who can sponsor? Parents, grandparents, parents direct brothers/sisters or student s direct brothers/sisters holding NRI status can sponsor. The sponsor must be able to produce NRI certificate from the Indian Embassy indicating NRI status and should be holding an NRE/ NRO account in Indian bank or an account in foreign bank. Can a foreign student study at K J Somaiya College of Engineering with a 'Tourist Visa'? No. A foreign student (citizen) can study at K J Somaiya College of Engineering only with a 'Student Visa'. If the foreign citizen is of Indian origin, then he/she can apply and get a PIO (People of Indian Origin) Card or OCI (Overseas Citizen of India). Students with PIO or OCI can study in India without a student visa. How do I apply for a student visa? You can apply for a Student Visa in your nearest Indian Embassy or Consulate. You will have to apply for a Student Visa based on the confirmed admission letter issued by the International Admissions Cell of K J Somaiya College of Engineering What are the criteria for admission? Is there any entrance test to be taken by the NRI/PIO student? No. The admissions are given on the basis of the 12 th standard or equivalent examination s marks. The marks of Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry/ Computer Science/Electronics are considered for admission.

10 About Process of Application When do I apply? Tentatively from June 2018, first week the applications will be received. You are also required to apply online and send the scanned documents to internationalapplications@somaiya.edu. Which documents need to be submitted at the time of confirmation of admission? Common Document to be submitted 10 th standard equivalent examination mark list 12 th standard (or equivalent), mark list Migration Certificate School Leaving certificate Letter issued by employer of the NRI Parent/ Sponsor Scanned copy of Passport of the student & Parent / Sponsor including visa pages/ work permit Letter from Branch manager of the branch in which you are holding NRE/ NRO account. (No need of bank statement). If you have an account in foreign bank, letter from that branch manager is required. No. Students/ Parents should directly contact the International admission cell of the college for any information on NRI/PIO/ CGW/FN admission. K J Somaiya College of Engineering, in any way, will not be responsible if students apply through agents. What is the detailed process of Application? Candidates who are interested in securing admission under the NRI-PIO-FN-CIWGC quota in K J Somaiya College of Engineering in the academic year are requested to follow the following admission process. 1. Registration on DTE Maharashtra Government Portal As per the instructions given by the Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra State, ALL the candidates who are interested in securing admission under the above said quota are required to register on portal: Please ensure you are registering under BOTH CATEGORIES SEPARATELY if interested in NRI as well as CIWGC. The DTE will be preparing TWO lists of eligible candidates after verification of the documents.

12 2. Registration on website After the registration and verification process by DTE is completed, a list of eligible candidates will be published by DTE. The candidates will be required to register on The candidates will be required to furnish details about marks obtained in qualifying examination and the branch of admission in the order of preference. 3. Based on the applications received by the college, a merit list will be prepared by the College. The allotment of the seats will be done on the basis of Merit and branch preferred. 4. The candidate will be given THREE working days for confirming the admission offered. The offered seat will be conformed ONLY after FULL payment of first year academic fees. 5. Based on the availability of the seats further rounds will be conducted. Would be communicated in the due course of time When should I arrive at K J Somaiya College Engineering Campus, if an offer for admission to any one of the programs is accepted? The admission is considered confirmed only after payment of the entire first year fees. Typically the college will start in July 2018, details of which can be referred in the academic calendar available on our website. The students who are admitted will be informed of the exact date in the letter of confirmed admission.

13 Is there any other fee besides course/tuition fee that need to be paid? All the Academic Fees are to be paid by the student at the time of admission. So no other fee is to be paid to college afterwards. If the student has taken admission in Hostel, then Hostel charges and Mess charges are to be paid separately according to hostel payment schedule. Is there any provision for concession or scholarships? K J Somaiya College is a self financed Institute and does not receive any grants from the Government. Hence concessions or scholarships are not offered to students admitted under the NRI / PIO / CGW / FN quota. However second year onwards these students are eligible to apply for any scholarship which may be available to the local students studying in K J Somaiya College of Engineering. TOP Campus Life Is there any campus accommodation? The Somaiya trust runs several other institutes. Students from these institutes are given accommodation on the campus. There are separate hostel wings for boys and girl students. The non-ac self-contained rooms are offered on twin sharing. The mess is located in the same building providing vegetarian food. There is a provision of self - operated laundry, gymnasium and few other recreational facilities. What are the facilities available in the room? These non-ac rooms offered on twin sharing are provided with attached bathrooms. A bed, writing table, chair and a cupboard is provided for individual students. The rooms have Wi-Fi connectivity and students can access the internet from their own Laptops. Can a student move straight to the hostel room on arrival in Mumbai? No. On arrival, students are required to make their own arrangements till the time they get the campus accommodation. Only after the student has completed the admission formalities / registration as mentioned in the confirmed admission letter, will a student be permitted to move into the hostel.

14 What type of food is available on the campus?? Only vegetarian is allowed on Campus. In addition to the hostel mess, there are three different canteens that offer a variety of food. Being in the heart of the city, students can enjoy food of their choice in the various restaurants outside the campus. What medical facilities are available to students admitted at K J Somaiya College of Engineering? We have medical post in the college, where a doctor is available during working hours. The Somaiya trust also runs a medical college and associated hospital which is located approximately 2 km from the campus where the students can receive treatment at subsidized fees. TOP
