5 Programs & Types of Aid Federal Pell Grant (Grant: does not have to be repaid) Federal Supplemental ducational Opportunity Grant (FSOG) Direct Subsidized Loan (must be repaid with interest) Direct Unsubsidized Loan (must be repaid with interest) Direct PLUS Loan (must be repaid with interest) Federal Work-Study (money is earned; does not have to be repaid) Federal Perkins Loan (must be repaid with interest) Federal Student Aid at a Glance Program Information Awarded to undergraduate students who have exceptional financial need and who have not earned a bachelor s or graduate degree; in some cases, students enrolled in a post baccalaureate teacher certification program may receive a Federal Pell Grant. Federal Pell Grant lifetime eligibility is limited to 12 semesters or the equivalent. Awarded to undergraduate students who have exceptional financial need and who have not earned a bachelor s or graduate degree Federal Pell Grant recipients receive priority Not all schools participate in the FSOG program Funds depend on availability at the school; applications must be received by the school s deadline For undergraduate students who have financial need 2019, interest rate is 5.05% You re not usually charged interest on the loan during certain periods, such as when you re in school at least half-time For undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree students; financial need is not required 2019: 5.04% interest rate for loans made to undergraduate students, and 6.6% interest rate for loans made to graduate and professional degree students You re responsible for interest during all periods For parents who are borrowing money to pay for their dependent undergraduate child s education, and for graduate or professional degree students;* financial need is not required 2019, interest rate is 7.6% Borrower must not have adverse credit For undergraduate and graduate students; part-time jobs can be on campus or off campus. Money is earned while attending school.
