Good luck Grace and we are proud of you! I would like to welcome two new staff members to St. John s. Mrs. Heather Pennington has been hired as an additional instructional aid. Also, Mrs. Amy Hill has joined our staff as our Explore(gifted) teacher. She replaces Mrs. Fischer who recently retired. In a few weeks students in 1st-7th grade will begin taking the IOWA tests. These tests are scheduled between March 4th and 15th. Student attendance at school is important these two weeks in order to complete these tests by the deadline. As well as, getting enough sleep and eating a full breakfast will help students taking these tests. Just a reminder school is closed tomorrow February 15th and Monday, February 18th. Please remember that registration is open until February 28th. To complete your child s registration you must: 1) Complete the OptionC registration 2) Pay registration fees 3) Turn in the tuition payment plan. Until all three things have been done, your registration is not complete. 2 Jaguar Journal School News P a g e Lotto Update Once Again WE HAD a SUCCESSFUL 2019 Lotto! The parish and school families sold a total of 1066 Lotto Tickets. As a parish & school, we brought in $21,320. A total of $10,000 of that money will be paid out in 2019 to the Lotto Winners throughout this year! The remainder of the money will be used for the school and parish operations. Remember to look in the Jaguar Journal and the Bulletin each week to see the Winners and/or check on the website for the weekly winners. There are lots of families who helped this year s Lotto be a successful one. A HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO participated! Several families will be receiving Out of Uniform Passes this week. For every (5) Lotto tickets sold, each student in the family received (1) Out of Uniform Pass. Families will be receiving their passes this week. Lots of families are being placed in a drawing for a Special Electronic Give Away. For every 5 Lotto Tickets a family sold, they received one family entry into the drawing. This drawing will be held this Thursday, February 14th. The winning family will receive a paper with all the possible electronic options on it. We ask that you pick your item and return the paper on Tuesday after break with your chosen electronic item. The following families sold at least 15 tickets and received a Free Lotto Ticket in their name entered into the 2019 Lotto. These families are: Jansen, Kelhoffer (Kyle), Land, Braun, Bybee, Mayer, McAlister, Perella, Welter, Wilhelm and Cole. Your ticket stub is in the envelop that will be coming home this week with the Out of Uniform Passes! The following families sold at least 20 Lotto Tickets and the students of these families will receive a Special Lunch this spring. The date is yet to be determined. More details will be coming in the next few weeks. The students of these families are: Jansen, Land, Braun, Mayer, Wilhelm, Bybee, McAlister, Kelhoffer (Kyle), Perella. The Top 4 Families receive a $25 Scrip Gift Certificate to choose the gift cards of their choice. These families are: Jansen, Land, Mayer, & Wilhelm. The Scrip Gift Certificates will be coming home this week. The families who sold over 25 Lotto Tickets will be entered into a drawing for a $100 Scrip Gift Certificate. The families who will be entered in to the drawing are: Jansen, Land, Mayer, & Wilhelm. Again we want to THANK EVERYONE for their Support for a Successful 2019 LOTTO. 3 Jaguar Journal School News P a g e Education Savings Plans For all current or perspective St. John the Baptist school families, please remember that effective January 1, 2018 families may use 529 education savings plans for K 12 tuition at private schools. This is not only for parents but also grandparents, godparents and aunts/uncles. Named after section 529 of the tax code, the 529 plan is a tax-advantaged plan operated by a state or an education institution designed to encourage savings. The federal tax advantage is that earnings on funds contributed to 529 accounts are not federally taxed when withdrawals are used for educational purposes. Separate accounts can be set up for each child in school, with a $10,000 per student maximum amount that can be distributed tax-free per calendar year. You may enroll directly with a state 529 plan manager or through a financial advisor. If you have any questions about this type of plan, please contact a 529 provider, a financial advisor, or our Business Manager Mike Newton at x211 or mnewton@stjb.net. Tuition Assistance Application Information Through FACTS Tuition Management FACTS Tuition Management will be conducting the financial need analysis for St. John the Baptist School families for the upcoming school year that are applying for tuition assistance. Families applying for financial aid will need to complete an application online and submit the necessary supporting documentation to FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment by April 15, Applications will only be processed when all supporting documents are received by FACTS. Applicants can apply online with the FACTS link at If this is your first time applying for tuition assistance with FACTS, you will need to create a new account. There will be a $30.00 fee to apply for tuition assistance that will need to be paid online to complete your application process. Families will be notified of tuition assistance awards by May 31, If you have applied for tuition assistance at one of the high schools in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, you will only need to list your child s name that is attending our school on that application and submit your 2018 tax returns. There will be no additional fee to apply for tuition assistance for our school. Financial assistance is only available for registered St. John the Baptist parishioners who met the 60% church attendance requirement, with students enrolled in our school in grades K-8. Tuition assistance is not available for preschool or pre-kindergarten students. All tuition assistance applications will be handled through an online application this year. If you do not have access to apply on line, please contact our Business Manager, Mike Newton, mnewton@stjb.net or ext Once an online application has been completed, the following information will need to be sent to FACTS to complete the application process: Copies of your 2018 Federal tax forms including all supporting tax schedules Copies of your 2018 W-2 forms for both you and your spouse Copies of supporting documentation for Social Security Income, Welfare, Child Support, Food Stamps, Workers Compensation, and TANF All supporting documentation can be uploaded online in pdf format. 4 Jaguar Journal School News P a g e 4 COSI Volunteers St. John the Baptist PTC will be hosting COSI on Wheels on Monday, March 25 th, for Grades K-6. Volunteers will be needed to help with hands on sessions from 8:30 am until 3:15 pm, with a lunch break in between. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. A minimum of volunteers will be needed in order to host this event. Your time is truly appreciated!

6 Jaguar Journal School News P a g e 6 PTC s Tenth Annual Trivia Night will be Saturday, March 23 rd from 7:00 11:00 P.M., at the American Legion Hall on Campbell Road. Get your team of 6 ready for a fun night of Trivia! Flyers available at sjbharrison.org under the Current Families Tab It s TIME to Celebrate Seton and the community is invited! Join us on Sunday, February 24, from 1 p.m. 5 p.m. at Seton High School. Admission to this mini-festival is free and there will be a giveaway for all grade school girls. The afternoon includes a fashion show where Future Saints from various schools and current Seton Student Ambassadors will show off our newest spirit wear items. You won t want to miss the performances by the Seton Dance teams from the Seton Twinkles all the way to the JV and Varsity teams! BOTH Varsity and JV DOUBLE MEDALED at the 2019 UDA National Championship Varsity placed 2nd in Small Varsity Pom and 2nd in Small Varsity Hip Hop and JV placed FIRST in the JV division for Small Varsity Pom and 3rd for Small Varsity Hip Hop! Seton s Concert Choir and Vocal Ensemble will also perform throughout the afternoon! Join us for games, food and prizes! The Seton Spirit Shop will be open as well so you can stop in for some new items in spirit wear! #CelebrateSeton
