1 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Scholarship One or more college scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each will be awarded to a high school female senior in Collin County. Applications can be obtained by ing scholarship@akaczo.org. Complete the application and submit by the due date. Late applications will not be considered. Each applicant must meet the following criteria: Be an African American female senior who lives in or attends high school in Collin County Have a grade point average of 2.5 or better Have an ACT score of 18 or better; or SAT score of 900 or better (in Critical Reading & Math) Have applied to and/or been accepted to college Applicants must provide information regarding your class rank, participation in extracurricular activities, and community service. Your application must also be signed by a school official, certifying that the academic information provided is correct. As part of the application you also must submit: (1) A word essay on one of the four topics listed in the application; (2) A letter of recommendation from your school counselor, teacher, or principal; (3) An official copy of your high school transcript. Recent statistics show that more girls are loosing interest in math & science, before entering middle school. What do you think must be done, now, to cultivate and sustain a greater interest in STEM subjects and careers, within our middle school girls? Background and Influences 2. Decision Making 4. The road to success can be filled with many obstacles. What was the last obstacle you encountered in high school? How did you successfully surpass it? What lessons did you learn that may be applicable to obstacles you may encounter, later in life? Essays should be concise, clear, and cohesive; and will be evaluated on its substance and grammar. The essay must be typed and formatted using 1.5 to double-spacing, one-inch margins, font size between point (Times Roman, Cambria, Arial or Calibri fonts).
