At age 29 the average man who attended HE earns around 25% more than the average man (with five A*-C GCSEs) who did not. For women the gap is more than 50% (Source: IFS, 2018). 27 Loan Repayments Repayments start in the April after you have left your course, only if you are earning over 25,000 (gross) You repay nine per cent of your income over 25,000 Any outstanding balance is written off 30 years after entering repayment You can make additional repayments or repay in full at any time without incurring a charge You still have to make repayments if you live abroad, but there may be different income thresholds

30 Conservatoires and Drama Schools There are 8 Conservatoire schools training artists and production professionals in dance, drama, circus arts and technical theatre. All courses at conservatoires have a strong vocational, performance orientation, and course structures are reflective of the industry. There is a slightly different application process via UCAS Conservatoires and students are supported individually to make competitive applications. Not all Drama Schools are a conservatoire for a full directory of eligible courses see Not all courses secure student loan funding so the costs can add up.

31 Conservatoires and Drama Schools The 8 schools receive over 12,000 applications per year for 335 undergraduate places. Every eligible applicant is interviewed, (for some drama schools you pay to audition). It costs at least 17,365 per year to train a conservatoire student, most have funding packages. Students spend 35 hours per week in training, they are hard work! 33 Gap Year Planning Some students choose to work for the entire year gaining real life work experience. A more common decision is to work for 6 months and travel for some of the year. Alternatively there are lots of different gap year schemes which allow students to volunteer around the world. There are also gap year programmes designed with experienced guides. Gap years are a good way to think about what you students want to do as there are so many different ways you can spend them.
