HEARING SESSION At this time, the Board of Education welcomes public comment. Members of the audience have an opportunity to speak to any item on the Closed Session agenda. The chair reserves the right to limit speaking time to three minutes. Government Code Section and Education Code Section prohibit the Board of Education from discussing or acting upon matters not on the Agenda; therefore, Board members may (1) acknowledge receipt of the information; or (2) refer the matter to staff with no direction as to action or priority. PRESENTATIONS Business Services Child Nutrition Services by Design: Pamela Lambert, Director, Child Nutrition Services, will present the strategic planning process, encouraging the voice of each and every Child Nutrition Services staff member by established belief statements. Climatec Energy Conservation Program: Alvord Unified School District desires to save energy, provide general fund relief and upgrade district facilities without the need of capital or bond funds. The purpose of this program is to provide needed upgrades and improvements to district facilities. This program requires zero district capital and is 100% funded through utility rebates and energy savings. ADJOURN TO CLOSED SESSION

Student of the Month: Valley View Elementary School is proud to recognize Rogelio Barrera as the Alvord Unified School District Student of the Month for September Rogelio is an excellent 5 th grade student who has attended Valley View Elementary since Kindergarten. He is an outstanding student in behavior and in academics. He has excelled academically, scoring Advanced on the CST in Language Arts and Math. He has also challenged himself learning the English language and has been re-designated English Proficient. Rogelio loves to play soccer. He has been playing team soccer since he was 7! Both his mom and dad are Soccer Parents and coach soccer. Rogelio dreams of going to college and either becoming a professional soccer player or a Video Game Designer. It is a great pleasure to honor Rogelio Barrera as the Alvord Unified School District Student of the Month for September b. Certificated Employee of the Month: Valley View Elementary School is proud to recognize Diana Vasquez as the Alvord Unified School District Certificated Employee of the Month for September Mrs. Vasquez has taught in Alvord for 14 years and 12 of them have been at Valley View Elementary. She has taught Kindergarten through 4 th grades and is currently teaching 4th grade. Mrs. Vasquez heart and soul are put into her standards-based lessons that focus on differentiating and reaching all students. She is committed to her students success and progress towards attaining proficiency. Mrs. Vasquez always wanted to be a teacher. Her passion for educating children came when, right out of high school, she became a bilingual aide in the Los Angeles Unified School District. She feels that the rewards of teaching are when former students come back to see her and thank her for being their teacher. It is a great pleasure to honor Diana Vasquez as the Alvord Unified School District Certificated Employee of the Month for September c. Classified Employee of the Month: Valley View Elementary School is proud to recognize Lorilynn Phillips as the Alvord Unified School District Classified Employee of the Month for September Mrs. Phillips is the smiling face of the Valley View Elementary School library. She makes it a place where students want to be and they get their love of reading in the library where Mrs. Phillips carefully plans the bulletin boards themes and chooses books to wet their appetite for reading. Her day is full of tracking the books that are checked out, reading to classes and tutoring small groups of students, Kindergarten through 3 rd grade, in reading skills. It is a great pleasure to honor Lorilynn Phillips as the Alvord Unified School District Classified Employee of the Month for September 2013.

Volunteer of the Month: Valley View Elementary School is proud to recognize Laura Baker as the Alvord Unified School District Volunteer of the Month for September Mrs. Baker has been a volunteer at Valley View since March of 2012 when she moved to Riverside from the state of Washington. Her family is her passion and priority, and that is what drives her to volunteer and spend countless hours working with the Valley View PTA Board to provide support and activities for not only her children, but for all students at Valley View Elementary. Staff and students appreciate all the time and planning that Mrs. Baker and the Valley View PTA Board and parent volunteers spend helping when and wherever they are needed. It is a great pleasure to honor Laura Baker as the Alvord Unified School District Volunteer of the Month for September e. Student Representative: Jenna Groves will report on current activities and accomplishments at Valley View Elementary School. Approve Revised District Bank Account List: Board approval is requested for a revised District Bank Account List reflecting the addition of a Child Nutrition Services Revolving Fund Bank Account at Altura Credit Union. d. Award Contract Inland Flooring Contractors, Inc. Re-Carpet Building A of the District Office: Board approval is requested to award a contract to Inland Flooring Contractors, Inc. as the lowest responsible bidder meeting all contract requirements. Fiscal Impact: $23, (Deferred Maintenance Funds) e. Approve Consolidated Application for Categorical Program Funding: Board approval is requested to submit the Consolidated Application and Reporting System application for Categorical Program Funding for Fiscal Impact: $11,066, (Estimated Revenue ) Human Resources Development f. Approve Personnel Order No : Board approval of Personnel Order No. 3 is requested.

Approve Addition of One Maintenance Worker III Electrician Assistant Position Maintenance and Operations: Board approval is requested for the addition of one full-time, 12-month Maintenance Worker III Electrician Assistant position for the Maintenance and Operations Department. An additional Electrician position will assist with the completion of work orders. Fiscal Impact: $51, (General Fund/Restricted Maintenance and Operations) h. Approve Addition of One Maintenance Specialist Painter Position Maintenance and Operations: Board approval is requested for the addition of one full-time, 12- month Maintenance Specialist Painter position for the Maintenance and Operations Department. An additional Painter position will assist in the completion of work orders. Fiscal Impact: $54, (General Fund/Restricted Maintenance and Operations) i. Approve Addition of One Maintenance Specialist Plumber Position Maintenance and Operations: Board approval is requested for the addition on one full-time, 12-month Maintenance Specialist Plumber position for the Maintenance and Operations Department. An additional Specialist Plumber position will assist in the completion of work orders. Fiscal Impact: $54, (General Fund/Restricted Maintenance and Operations) j. Approve Addition of One Maintenance Worker III Heating Ventilation and Air Condition (HVAC) Position Maintenance and Operations: Board approval is requested for the addition of one full-time, 12-month Maintenance Worker III Heating Ventilation and Air Condition (HVAC) position for the Maintenance and Operations Department. An additional HVAC position will assist in the completion of work orders. Fiscal Impact: $51, (General Fund/Restricted Maintenance and Operations) k. Approve Addition of One Teacher on Special Assignment Position Hillcrest High School: Board approval is requested for the addition of one Teacher on Special Assignment Position for Hillcrest High School. Fiscal Impact: $119, (General Fund/Restricted Economic Impact Aid)

Approve Student Teaching Agreement California State University, San Bernardino: Board approval is requested for a Student Teaching Agreement with California State University, San Bernardino to provide student teaching in the schools of the Alvord Unified School District. This agreement shall be for the term of three years, beginning July 1, 2013 and ending without further notice on June 30, m. Amend Student Teaching Agreement University of California, Riverside: Board approval is requested to amend the Student Teaching agreement with the University of California, Riverside originally approved on October 4, The University of California, Riverside has since made an amendment to the agreement to include video recording of the student teacher for the purposes of professional coaching and advisement. Instructional Support Services n. Approve New Course Description: Board approval is requested for the International Baccalaureate Mathematics Higher Level 2 course description for the school year. SEPARATE ACTION ITEMS 6. Action Taken In Closed Session: Ben Johnson II, Board Clerk, will report on any actions taken by the Board following consideration in Closed Session. 1. Adopt Resolution No Month Addendum to Lease Purchase Agreement with Konica Minolta: Board approval is requested for adoption of Resolution No. 7 to enter into a 59-month Addendum to Lease Purchase Agreement with Konica Minolta, which will provide Child Nutrition Services with the addition of one Bizhub C754 Copier/Printer/Scanner. This addendum will add $ per month to the original Konica Minolta agreement Board approved on February 21, Fiscal Impact: $ per month for 59-months (Child Nutrition Services Fund 13) 10. Approve Memorandum of Understanding between Alvord Unified School District and the California School Employees Association Regarding Benefits for the School Year: Board approval is requested for a Memorandum of Understanding between Alvord Unified School District and the California School Employees Association.
