The University s city centre campus provides a modern student-centred community. Based on the picturesque Brayford Pool marina, everything students need is either on campus or a short walk away. Programme Overview The subject of Design for Exhibition and Museums is about creating exciting and engaging three-dimensional communicative environments. It is all about storytelling, whether this is of a brand, a collection or an idea. By using a multidisciplinary approach that includes aspects of interior, graphic, product and communication design, exhibition designers construct a narrative that acts as an interpretive bridge between the expert or client and their audience. We focus on the interests of two areas of economic and cultural activity; the commercial exhibitions industry and the museum and heritage sectors. Both areas are global in scope and subject to extremely rapid growth and change, particularly in Hong Kong and China. Clients and audiences demand exhibitions that provide an engaging, informative and thoroughly immersive experience. We have a track record of helping our students to develop the interdisciplinary creative thinking and knowledge of new technologies, which are key to succeeding in this field. Our students learn how to understand and interpret particular messages for different audience types, from general visitor groups in museums or heritage environments, to technically sophisticated individuals at trade-only and special interest exhibitions. We have a sustainability and access agenda that informs all fields of exhibition design and has a central place in the ethos of the programme. This programme has a strong vocational nature and 90 percent of students from this programme go on to work or further study six months after finishing their programme, according to the latest Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education survey. It takes a studio-based approach that mirrors the design practice environment, where students make, think and draw together, using both analogue and digital technologies. The ephemeral nature of the discipline has its constant change and evolution over many years while all our students are welcomed into a long established international family of working designers.
