Post-Secondary Learning Act (PSLA): The PSLA (Section 26(1)(m)) indicates that General Faculties Council (GFC) has the authority to make rules and regulations respecting academic awards. 2. 5 Alumni Advantage Scholarship Open Value: $2,500 Number: 2 Awarded to students with superior academic achievement enrolled in any year of an undergraduate degree and who are an alumnus, or children, grandchildren or great grandchildren of an alumnus. Selection based on demonstrated leadership through involvement in campus or community service or volunteerism, and academic standing. Applicant must not be in receipt of a major award in the current year greater than $5,000. One scholarship given to a student in first or second year and one scholarship given to a student in third or fourth year. By application to the Undergraduate Leadership Competition Annually funded by the University of Alberta Alumni Association

6 BioVision Seed Labs Scholarship Crop Science Value: $1,000 Number: 1 Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement enrolled in the second, third or fourth year of a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, majoring in Crop Science. Selection based on academic standing. Preference given to a student from a rural Alberta farming family. By application to the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences Annually funded by BioVision Seed Labs for a minimum of five years

7 Carl Amrhein Aboriginal Award Open Value:, maximum annual allocation of $2,000 Number: Awarded to students with satisfactory academic standing enrolled in any year of an undergraduate degree who are of Aboriginal descent under the Constitution Act, 1982, Sections 35(2) or persons accepted by one of the Aboriginal peoples of Canada as a member of their community. Selection based on demonstrated leadership through involvement and participation in University or community organizations and academic standing. 13 Shoppers Drug Mart Pharmacy/MBA Award Value: Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Number: 2 Awarded to students with satisfactory academic standing enrolled in the fourth year of an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences who have completed the MBA portion of the fulltime program in the MBA/BSc in Pharmacy combined degree. Selection based on academic standing. Preference given to students who have clearly demonstrated in their previous three years of undergraduate pharmacy their long-term interest in pursuing a career in community pharmacy management and who have a demonstrable track record of undertaking leadership roles which include community volunteerism, academic societies, and student groups during their undergraduate education. 14 Sonja Burton Memorial Bursary Value: Number: Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences or Science Awarded to students with satisfactory academic standing enrolled in any year of an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences or the Faculty of Science. Selection based on demonstrated financial need. Preference given to students in an animal sciences field of study who have graduated from Harry Ainlay High School, and/or participated in an equestrian program. 22 Karpinski Medal in Physiology Value: Physiology $300 and Sterling Gilt medal Number: 1 Awarded to a convocating student with superior academic achievement in Honours Physiology. Selection based on overall academic standing during the four years of the degree program as well as leadership and character which may lead to the recipient making a distinguished contribution to Physiology in the future. 23 Faculté Saint-Jean International Retention Award / Bourse de Rétention étudiants Internationaux Faculté Saint-Jean Faculté Saint-Jean Value: (maximum value $2,500) Number: Awarded to international students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or greater on 24 units of course weight continuing in any undergraduate degree program at Faculté Saint-Jean who are studying full time on a Student Visa Permit. Selection based on academic standing and demonstrated leadership on the FSJ campus. Receipt of this award is contingent upon recipients registering in a minimum of three courses in both the fall and winter terms at Faculté Saint-Jean. 27 Luc Barton Memorial Scholarship in Science Science Value: 1 Number: $1,000 Funded by: Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement enrolled in the third or fourth year of an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Science with a major in Plant Biology. Selection based on academic standing. Preference given to a student with a strong interest in music performance. 28 Métis Nation of Alberta Undergraduate Award Open Value: Between $2,500 and $5,000 Number: Awarded to students of Métis ancestry with satisfactory academic standing enrolled in the first, second or third year of an undergraduate degree. Selection based on demonstrated involvement in the Métis community, academic standing and demonstrated financial need. In order to qualify for these awards, students cannot also be eligible for awards or funding designated for registered or treaty Indians. A student cannot receive this award and the Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA) Labour Market Development sponsorship in the same academic year. Apply by October 14 to the Aboriginal Student Services Centre. Applications can be found by visiting rsaries.cfm Métis Education Foundation (MEF), an affiliate of the Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA)

29 Métis Scholars Award Open Value: Between $10,000 and $20,000 Number: Awarded to students of Métis ancestry with satisfactory academic standing enrolled in a graduate program or professional program with differential fees (non-direct entry). Selection based on demonstrated involvement in the Métis community, academic standing and demonstrated financial need. In order to qualify for these awards, students cannot also be eligible for awards or funding designated for registered or treaty Indians. A student cannot receive this award and the Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA) Labour Market Development sponsorship in the same academic year. 30 Northern Studies and Research Award Value: Number: Open Awarded to students with satisfactory academic standing enrolled in an undergraduate degree involving Northern studies and research or study leading to a Northern specialization. Northern is defined as any area of the world (Northern Hemisphere) being north of the southern limit of the boreal forest. Selection based on demonstrated commitment to pursuing Northern studies and/or research. This award is intended to provide financial support toward the cost of tuition, travel, or costs associated with research. By November 1 at the discretion of the Director or designate of UAlberta North Endowed by the International Winter Cities Committee

31 Peter Lougheed Leadership College Interdisciplinary Award Open Value: $2,500 Number: Up to 250 Funded by: Awarded to students with satisfactory academic standing entering any year of an undergraduate or graduate degree who are scholars in the Peter Lougheed Leadership College. Selection based on academic standing, and demonstrated leadership potential through involvement and participation in university or community organizations. This award is also open to part-time students. By nomination from the Peter Lougheed Leadership College Annually funded by the Peter Lougheed Leadership College
