5 To request an appointment with your counselor, you will need to scan your counselor s QR Code (QR posters are located all over the building). Answer the questions on the Google Form from your cell phone & hit Submit. If you do NOT have a QR Reader, there are instructions in the counseling office on how to download a QR Reader App so that you can sign up to see your counselor. You can also use SnapChat! If you do NOT have a cell phone, you may use the laptop in the counseling office to request an appointment with your counselor.

9 Students don t setup accounts. They are automatically setup for them. The username is first and last initial plus your student id (e.g. Sam Smith would have a user name of ss412200). A Focus password is also assigned. It is random. See the librarian for your Focus assigned login credentials. As a bonus, a student may also use their network username and password to login. Either will work.

13 STAAR State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness Students entering the ninth grade in the school year or thereafter will take 5 end-of-course (EOC) assessments as they complete the corresponding course. The 5 EOC assessments are: English 1 English 2 Algebra 1 Biology U.S. History

14 Unless exempt, you must take this test to attend any public college in Texas This includes if you plan to take dual credit courses while in high school This is given to all sophomores in RISD in the spring

15 This is a decision that MUST be cleared with your counselor; counselor must approve learning institution and how courses work with Graduation Plan Tests must be completed by December of your senior year. Schedule a testing date with your counselor

18 SAT You are a quick thinker who loves the challenge of puzzles and logic games You can quickly define a plethora of onerous vocabulary words (and know what plethora and onerous mean) You prefer to write about world War II and The Great Gatsby rather than school uniforms You have a short attention span and prefer an exam in bite-sized pieces You rocked the PSAT: stick with what works!

19 ACT Which is better for you: the SAT or ACT? You pay close attention in math class and understand basic trigonometry, logarithms and imaginary numbers You love the challenge of working quickly and beating the clock You re good at reading graphs and tables and identifying trends You re a strong reader and would prefer to read a passage rather than solve a math problem You re a straight A student but did poorly on the PSAT

20 Students who are eligible for the Free/Reduced Lunch Program are also eligible for: Fee Waivers for both the SAT and ACT Tests College Admission Fee Waivers A fee reductions for AP tests. Students are also eligible for reduced summer school fees. Parents MUST apply for the Federal Free/Reduced Lunch Program EACH year in order for their children to be eligible. 22 GPA is the cumulative average of your semester grades for each class. It is recalculated after each full semester (not summer). Currently, RISD calculates GPA on both a 100 point scale and a 5.0 (weighted 4.0) scale. 5 points are added to PASSING semester grades for PreAP /Honors classes. 10 points are added to passing semester grades of AP classes. You can access your GPA through Naviance. Please refer to your Naviance handout for detailed instructions. Stop by the counseling office to pick up a copy of your most recent unofficial transcript no later than Friday, December 7. In order to receive a copy of your transcript, you will request it from Mrs. Massey in the counseling office once you show her your ID. Be sure to check the following things on your transcript: The spelling of your name, date of birth, social security number, address and your grades. If you have any questions sign up to see your counselor.

23 As of August 2018, Richardson ISD is a non-ranking district This means you will not have an assigned class rank Students in the top 10% at the end of their junior year will receive a letter Colleges that require a rank will assign one based on your grades, course selection, and information about the school

25 Students who are in the top 10% of their senior class will automatically be admitted to a Texas public school Exception UT Austin--% may be lower Class of 2018 = top 6% Many schools have automatic admissions between 15-25% If you are not automatically admitted, that does NOT mean you are automatically denied, they just look at more information

26 The Registrar, Mrs. Tanna Badger, is in charge of transcripts/ processing transcripts. Her desk is in the Counseling Office. Stop by the Counseling Office in the front of the H-building to pick up an unofficial copy of your transcript. Verify the information on the transcript to make sure everything is correct. Log into Naviance to obtain your GPA (refer to your Naviance login instructions).

28 Some of you are already taking dual credit classes! They are FREE! This is a class taught by a Richland professor, but you receive high school credit AND college credit When you graduate high school, you send your Richland transcript to the college you plan to attend If the college accepts those credits, you do not have to take or pay for those classes!

29 OnRamps is dual enrollment: You are enrolled in a class at Lake Highlands as well as a class at The University of Texas at Austin You may receive an A from your LH teacher and a B from your UT professor the grades can be different When you graduate high school, you send your UT transcript to the college you plan to attend If the college accepts those credits, you do not have to take or pay for those classes!

( Example April 8, 1996 would be 4/8/1998) You can change it by selecting the Manage my Account link in the upper right hand corner of the screen. If that password does not work, click forgot my password to have a new password sent to your g.risd.org account. DO NOT use the I need to register link. 1. Login 2. Select the About Me Tab 3. Select My Account 4. You will be able to Scroll Down and your 100-point weighted GPA will be listed in the academic section 5. Write down your 100-point GPA you may need it this year!
