3 CLASSIFICATION OF STUDENTS Freshman if they have completed less than 30 credit hours Sophomore if they have completed credit hours Junior if they have completed credit hours Senior if they have completed more than 90 credit hours Holders of the Lebanese Baccalaureate are considered sophomore students regardless of the number of credits awarded upon admission.

4 FULL-TIME STUDENTS To be considered a full-time student, the minimum number of credit hours carried per semester should be: 12 credits 12 credits 6 credits Total: for the fall semester for the spring semester for the summer session 30 credits / year

5 REGISTRATION Students placed in English intensive I (ENG 000) can only take a free elective course (3-credit foreign language course) besides the 9-credit English course. Students placed in English intensive II (ENG 001) can only take CSI 200 (3 cr.) and/or a foreign language course (3 cr.) besides the 9-credit English course.

6 REGISTRATION Students placed in writing skills (ENG 200) can take up to 14 credits. (ENG CSI HMS Course). Students placed in MAT 200 (College Algebra) have to take it prior to MAT 220 as a free elective course (F.E.) Students placed in Rhetoric I can take up to15 credits (5 Courses).

7 ONLINE REGISTRATION Students can register their courses as of the first semester. You can log to AUST website, and use the online registration platform. Students have to get their user name and password from the bursars office. The same username and any password that you choose later on will help you to access the course website and download the materials placed by the instructor.

18 EXAMS AND MAKE-UP EXAMS Students are expected to take ALL their exams on the dates and times scheduled for such exams, otherwise a zero grade will be given on that exam. Make-up exams are not allowed except for well documented valid reasons (severe accident, hospitalization, or death in the family). Student should file a petition for a make-up exam, at the Office of the Dean of Students and Admissions, within three days from the missed exam.

19 PROBATION REGULATIONS A student is placed on first probation if he/she has accumulated a minimum of 12 credit hours and his/her cumulative GPA falls below A student is placed on second probation if he/she fails to remove the first probation in the following semester; i.e. earns a cumulative GPA below A student is suspended from the University if he/she fails to remove academic probation in two consecutive semesters.

20 SUSPENSION REGULATIONS A student is suspended from the university for failure to remove probation in two consecutive semesters. being found in serious breach of AUST s regulations Failure to complete a minimum of 12 credit hours successfully during the first academic year (excluding all preparatory courses) of his tenure at AUST.

21 WITHDRAWAL FROM COURSES Withdrawal from courses with a grade of W (which will appear on the student s record) is allowed until the end of the twelfth week after the beginning of a semester; the end of the third week after the beginning of a summer session. Withdrawals beyond the set deadlines are not allowed. Any withdrawal after the set deadlines will result in a final failing grade (F), which will appear on the student's record.

22 Disciplinary actions Cheating & Plagiarism Losing credit for the course or suspension if repeated. Any expression of physical violence Either temporary or final suspension. Any misbehavior during classroom instruction time Official written warning, and if repeated, leads to suspension.

23 ATTENDANCE REGULATIONS Attendance is mandatory. In case a student has a valid excuse for the absence, he/she should file a student absence petition form at the Office of the Dean of Students and Admissions. Students are allowed up to a maximum of four (4) unexcused absences. However, upon the second absence, the student will receive a first written warning. upon the fourth absence, the student will receive a second and final warning. upon the fifth absence, the student will be automatically withdrawn (AW) from the course.
