Patron Mr. Suneel Galgotia (Chancellor) Convocation is the time when any institution is proud and privileged to showcase its students to make a mark as educated youth in the society. In the month of January this year Galgotias University organized a grand convocation ceremony for its graduate, postgraduate and PhD students. While the teachers witnessed their hard work being honoured on the stage by the Union Minister Shri Venkaiah Naidu, parents present at the ceremony clearly looked satisfied and proud. This newsletter brings you a few highlights of this special day. 3 3 Galgotias University : Convocation 2017 Second annual convocation of the Galgotias University was held in January. Union Minister for Urban Development, Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation and Information & Broadcasting, Shri Venkaiah Naidu presided over the convocation ceremony. The academic awards as degrees, medals and trophies were presented to the students by the honourable minister. The minister in his address emphasized that India has great talent and resources that can contribute massively to different sectors and boost the economic growth of the country. The Union Minister also asked the students to take pride in India s rich cultural heritage. He urged the students to preserve the traditions and culture as they are way of living and should be preserved. He said that we should be proud as an Indian. The Chancellor of the University, Shri Suneel Galgotia expressed pleasure in welcoming the Union Minister Sri Naidu as one of the great orators working selflessly under the guidance of Hon Prime Minister for the development of the country. The University s Annual Report was presented by the Vice Chancellor, Prof (Dr.) Renu Luthra where she highlighted the varsity s achievements of academic year.

It is a great pleasure and honour to address the Convocation of Galgotias University. This university has done remarkably well in a short span of time distinguishing itself as a premier university in the NCR region and the country. It reflects the dedication and commitment of the teachers and the staff, sincere efforts of the students and the inspiring vision of the management. Let me first congratulate the winners of various awards and all the bright young students who are here today for their convocation, beaming with pride and joy, which they truly deserve after years of hard work. I also congratulate the proud parents of the students passing out today. The function of education is to teach one to think rationally intensively and critically. A well developed Education system would create individuals that are empowered and enlightened, who would then become a positive force for the well-being and advancement of the society. India has a rich and glorious tradition of learning which focussed on the development of the inner self of the student. The ancient Indian Universities such as the Nalanda, Taxila taught advanced subjects like meta-physics, astronomy, philosophy etc. These centres attracted students and scholars from various countries and produced highly intellect people who made great contributions in the fields of science and philosophy. With the advent of British, the traditional practices of learning were discouraged and a process of Intellectual colonization meant to create "a class of persons, Indian in blood and color, but English in taste, in opinions, in morals, and in intellect started.the British developed an education system with little focus on improving the education system for the benefit of the country. At the time of Independence, India had only around 20 universities and 500 affiliated colleges with a meagre enrolment of less than one lakh students. The education system of those days was narrow and elitist. Now, India s higher education system is the third largest in the world, next to only the United States and China. As per the latest reports available, India has around 760 Universities, colleges and Stand Alone Institutions with a total enrolment of around 3.4 crore students.

5 5 Speech of Hon able Shri M.Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister Urban Development, Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation And, there are many Indians like Satya Nadella, Sundar Pichai, Indra Nooyi who are today the heads of global giants like Microsoft, Google, Pepsi Co etc. This tells us that we do not lack quality institutions which can produce brilliant students with an excellent aptitude for technology and science. India's engineering and technology prowess is highly regarded the world over, especially in the sectors such as information technology. There are many Indian companies like Tata, Infosys which have established themselves as leaders in the global market. And, there are many Indians like Satya Nadella, Sundar Pichai, Indra Nooyi who are today the heads of global giants like Microsoft, Google, Pepsi Co etc. This tells us that we do not lack quality institutions which can produce brilliant students with an excellent aptitude for technology and science. Our Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi has said that Development now depends on the quality of institutions and ideas. It is upon the great institutions and the students to ensure India, a rightful place in the technological field and the world economy. Thus it is important for every education institution to create an atmosphere which encourages innovation, new ideas and the curiosity of the young minds. Many Universities has set up innovation clubs to encourage the budding innovations of the campus. All higher education institutions should replicate such models on their campuses. Friends! Your hard work of years has today culminated into an academic degree. This academic degree gives shape and form to all the experiments you have conducted in your labs, the project reports you submitted, and the assignments you pondered upon. Don t look at this degree as an end to your education. Rather, it should serve as a catalyst for your further pursuits of knowledge. Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Our Prime Minister Said, We now live in an age where change is constant and we are variables. Change is the only constant my dear friends. And to keep up with this change, learning should not be seen as an end but as a means to achieve the greater heights in life. You should continuously update yourself with the latest technologies, innovations and the changes the world around is going through. You should aim to be a better version of yourself every day. Tomorrow s you must be an improved version of today s you. Friends! Our country under the visionary leadership of our Prime Minister is undergoing a rapid transformation process. And it is the youth of this country that would lead the path of this transformation. Our Government s vision is to take India to its rightful place in the world. This is not possible without the empowerment of the people at the bottom of the pyramid. All the Government Programs, policies are designed and dedicated to the upliftment of the downtrodden sections of the society. Corruption is a barrier to achieving this vision of inclusive development and transformation. Anonymity is what aids corruption and generation of black money. A digital economy brings accountability and transparency to financial transactions, thereby reducing the avenues for corruption. Students and youth like you play a critical role in the transformation of our economy into a digital economy. You should aim to make digital payments a way of life and thus inspire the society. When the Government launched a programme called VISAKA, a campaign by students of higher educational institutions for promoting digital economy, more than 1.70 lakh students have registered as volunteers in just a month s time. This reflects the enthusiasm and commitment of our youth to participate in the nation s building process. I hope this spirit of commitment continues, and whatever position you are, you will contribute your knowledge and experience to find solutions to the diverse problems faced by our country. The era of personal growth through corruption has come to an end. The future is for the honest and the brave. And, let me assure you that all the Government policies, efforts and resources would be directed towards the empowerment of the poor. All we request from you is your whole-hearted participation in the mission of making India great again. India is an old land but a young nation. It is your skill, capability and knowledge that would drive this young nation forward in the march towards development. Friends! Once again, I congratulate you all on this joyous occasion and wish all the best for your future endeavours. It is always a pleasure to be amongst the young. 6 YEAR 5 ISSUE 1 MARCH, STUDENT S AWARDED Across the schools in the University more than seventy students received medals that included 38 gold medals, 25 silver medals and 11 bronze medals. Union Minister Sri Venkaiah Naidu felicitated the students on the occasion. Parents and family members of students who received the awards watched the proud moment intently and immense happiness.
