3 Faculties are currently working on content redistribution to enable courses to be taught in 10 weeks Deadline Redistribution of content to enable courses to be taught in 10 weeks to be reallocated by October 1, 2018 Required Outcomes Learning outcomes for courses should be unchanged If learning outcomes are to change as part of a larger refresh of curriculum, it should pass through existing approval processes in each Faculty Audit A working group of the Academic Board, operating throughout 2018, will undertake an audit of a small number of courses in each Faculty to ensure reallocation of content is appropriate (student rep included in this) Assessment Information is available on the governance website regarding assessment - df The PVCE will be holding assessment workshops early this year

5 The option to enrol annually will allow students to better plan their studies Response Enrolments will still open in October for the following academic year, and students will be able to enrol in all their courses for the following year. There will still be an option to enrol on a term-by-term basis Students will have the option to change their enrolment up until the enrolment deadline for each term Registration for classes will open approximately 10 weeks before the start of each term, and students will register for classes on a term-by-term basis Census dates will be the end of week 4. 6 The normal full-time load under UNSW3+ will still be 8 courses per year, and up to 3 courses per term Enrolment Basis Study load for default enrolment type Annual Term Full-time load A normal load will remain eight courses per year in the new calendar. 8 courses per year 2.66 courses per term (average) Minimum full-time load A full-time load is 75% of a normal load, so to retain full-time status under the UNSW3+ model, students will need to undertake six subjects over the course of the year, with at least one enrolment in each of the three normal terms (Terms 1, 2 and 3). 6 courses per year 2 courses per term Moving between Annual and Term enrolment Annual enrolment will be the default way to enroll in courses Students taking a term off or changing their enrolment below 6 courses in a year would automatically move to term based enrolment

Complete three courses in the remaining term and complete only 7 courses in the year 2. Complete a course in T2C (if available and part of your course progression) as well as three courses in the remaining term to complete the full time load of 8 courses in the year 3. Complete a course in the Summer term alongside three courses in the remaining term to complete the full time load of 8 courses in the year Outbound students exchange term may align with missing two terms under UNSW3+

11 Centrelink, the Start-Up Loan and scholarships will not be affected by UNSW3+ UNSW3+ impact Description Fees Fees will not increase because of the new academic calendar Centrelink Scholarships To retain full-time student status under the UNSW3+ calendar model for the purposes of Centrelink, Austudy or other government support, students will need to be enrolled in at least six subjects per year, as is the case under the current semester calendar. Students will need to enrol in at least one subject in each of the three normal terms (Term 1, 2 and 3), and six over the course of the year (Terms 1 to 3) to retain full time status. For students enrolling in less than a full year, it is expected that students will need to enrol in a minimum of two courses per term in order to maintain full time student status. Students should realise Austudy and Youth Allowance payments are also contingent on other eligibility criteria that UNSW does not influence. Some scholarships may alter the payment dates to reflect the normal study load being spread across three terms, but UNSW3+ will not affect scholarship values

14 There are some student cohorts that have been, and will continue to be, a focus for the UNSW3+ team Michaela Cohort Students with four courses left to complete in 2019 Complete two courses in Term , and two courses in Term Student would maintain full-time student status for these two terms and would complete their degree in August Complete a Summer Intensive course in 2018 or 2019, if the required course is available. Apply to overload in 2018 (five courses per semester) or Term (four courses). If the student wishes to discuss their options further, please direct them to their Faculty Student Centre. International student visa holders International student visa holders who may require a new visa if they cannot complete their remaining courses by Term 1 or Term 2 of We need to identify students who may need to study in Term 3, 2019 to complete the requirements of their degree, resulting in the need for a new visa. If you come across students who are in this situation, please direct them to their Faculty Student Centre.

15 International Visas and Students Full-time Study Load For International students studying on a student visa, they must satisfy certain conditions such as completing studies within the timeframes set out in the Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE). Under the current two semester calendar, students must enrol in 24 units of credit (four courses) per semester. In 2019, under UNSW3+: Students must enrol in 48 units of credit (eight courses) over the three terms. This means that in one term, students can complete a lighter study load of two courses. It may be possible for students to complete nine courses per year (three courses per term) and complete their degree one term early. However, if a student chooses to fast track their degree, they must return home when they have completed their studies. Work A student visa allows work up to 40 hours per fortnight while the program is in session and unrestricted hours during the university break periods. In 2019, the academic calendar dates will change, and it is important that International students adhere to these new dates and working restrictions. 16 Work Integrated Learning (WIL) WHAT IS WORK INTEGRATED UNSW? Work Integrated Learning (WIL) enables students to engage in authentic, purposeful, partnered, and supervised work learning experiences as part of their program of study. The new WIL Procedure at UNSW indicates all coursework programs will provide an opportunity for students to undertake WIL. WIL refers to work learning experiences undertaken by students as part of their program of study. WIL at UNSW must be: Embedded in a course and have an assigned unit of credit value; and/or A program requirement for those professions that require a minimum level of work experience to receive accreditation. For UNSW Engineering the program requirement is to complete 60 days of approved Industrial Training.

17 New calendar, new opportunities UNSW3+ enables students to build experiences into their degree in any term, giving employers access to our students all year round. UNSW3+ allows students more flexibility to increase or decrease their study load depending on the circumstances, and with the right planning an entire term in their degree can be made available to focus entirely on gaining relevant industrial experience whilst maintaining full time student status.

18 Industrial Training and UNSW3+ Q: How do students undertake Industrial Training during one of the terms and maintain full-time status under UNSW3+? A: Students interested in undertaking full time work for their Industrial Training during term time can enrol in an IT course prior to the end of previous term. This IT course will attract UoC that will maintain the student s full-time status. Although the work placement will be eligible for IT credit in the program, the course itself is not a program requirement nor will it count towards the program. Students will not be charged for enrolment into this course.

19 Industrial Training and annual enrolment Q: How will students be advised to complete annual enrolment in October if they plan to undertake Industrial Training the following year? A: If students plan A is to take a term off campus to undertake Industrial Training, it is strongly advised to have a plan B for the courses they would like to undertake in that term if they are unable to secure an Industrial Training placement for the following year. Students should be advised to enrol in their plan B options for their IT term in October of the year before to secure a place in the courses, and if/when they have secured an opportunity and gained approval to undertake an Industrial Training placement they can then vary their enrolment with the assistance of Student Services and the Industrial Training Administration team.

20 Summer internships under UNSW3+ Q: How do students participate in a full time summer internship program if the start date falls within the new Term 3? A: Students should seek academic enrolment advice on what their Term 3 coursework enrolment should be. If they should have no compulsory coursework enrolment in Term 3 and wish to remain enrolled as a full time student, they will need to apply for approval of their Industrial Training placement prior to the end of Term 2. If approved they will then have full time status for Term 3.
