2 Boundary Proposal Rationale: To address overcrowding at some schools while more effectively using other school facilities that are under capacity. Some attendance boundaries also may need adjustments due to a new school opening in the area, as well as new construction of homes and/or multi-family living areas. *All sixth-grade students will be able to remain in their attendance boundary; however, no transportation will be provided. *All students will have the option to move to the boundaries for the school year. Transportation rules apply (over 2.5 miles will be transported, under would need to pay for transportation). These students will not be considered transfer students.

14 Lenexa Hills Elementary Plan B 1. Sunflower students living west of I-435 from 103 rd Street to Midland Drive will move to Lenexa Hills. There are approximately 165 students in this area. This includes a small area assigned to Rosehill; however, there are currently no students living in this area. 2. Broken Arrow students living in Red Oak Hills will move to Lenexa Hills. Currently, there are approximately 21 students living in this section. (This area will remain in the SM Northwest feeder pattern for middle and high school; however, they may also choose the SM West feeder pattern.) *Lenexa Hills will be in the SM West feeder pattern with the exception of the Red Oak Hills subdivision students listed in #2.

The SM Northwest students (see map) attending Rising Star will have a choice to attend the SM West feeder pattern or the SM Northwest feeder pattern. *Rising Star will be in the SM West feeder pattern. This split feeder will remain with approximately 55% anticipated in the SM West feeder.

31 Conclusion The Shawnee Mission School District is committed to providing the best education to meet the needs of and successfully prepare every student in our district for a successful future. The boundary change process was established to: address overcrowding in some school facilities effectively utilize other school facilities that are under capacity support the opening of a new school anticipate enrollment needs in areas of new home construction and/or multi-family living areas In developing this recommendation for boundary adjustments, we engaged parent and community input and gathered feedback via in-person forums, , and phone communication. We have reviewed initial plans based on feedback provided and adjusted some elements to create this recommendation. We recognize that boundary adjustment discussions are difficult and often emotional for families. We want to assure board members, parents, students, and the community that any changes implemented will include planning to ensure transitions are successful and a priority is placed on building connections and relationships within new school communities. We believe this plan supports our commitment and will allow us to best serve our students.
