(*ANSWER ONLY FOR 3-YEAR PROGRAM REVIEW*) The Health Information Technology Program (HIT) is located at the John Adams Center, 1860 Hayes Street, San Francisco, California The HIT office is Room 309; the classroom, Room 308, is a smart classroom with 38 student computer stations. The classroom was updated spring, 2015 to meet the IT requirements for accreditation. Funds were provided to purchase new computers, new computer furniture, and a moveable instructor lecture station. The CCSF HIT Program is currently the only face-to-face HIT program in northern California. The majority of the HIT Programs throughout US are online or hybrid programs. In keeping with the College's Mission, the HIT Program offers one degree program and four certificate programs as follows: 1. Associate in Science in Health Information Technology 2. Certificate of Achievement in Health Information Technology 3. Certificate of Achievement in Health Information Coding Specialist 4. Certificate of Achievement in Health Information Clerk II 5. Certificate of Accomplishment in Health Information Clerk I Admission to the program is offered every semester and is open to all students who complete English 91 or ESL 150 or place in English 93 or ESL 160 or higher, and completion of Math E, Business G, H, or J, or place in Math 40 or higher. The HIT Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) on recommendation of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Students who complete the Associate in Science in Health Information Technology are eligible to sit for the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) examination offered by AHIMA. Students completing the AS Degree in Health Information Technology, Certificate of Achievement in Health Information Technology or the Certificate of Achievement in Health Information Coding Specialist are eligible to sit for the Certified Coding Specialist Exam (CCS) or Certified Coding Associate exam (CCA). Students are required to complete a Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training seminar earning a one-year HIPAA certificate. This training is provided every semester and is open to all students within the Health Care Technology Department. Students enrolled in a degree or certificate program meet with the program advisor each semester to plan classes for the following semester. These meetings help monitor student progress and track enrollment and attrition within the program options. Additionally, the program advisor meets with graduate applicable students to complete the degree and/or certificate petitions. A combined MA/HIT orientation is scheduled every semester for potential students. These orientations are informational only and do not select students for a cohort.

Clerk I 9 DATA TRENDS - OTHER: Provide an analysis of any additional data or internal or external factors affecting your department since the last program review. (*ANSWER ONLY FOR 3-YEAR PROGRAM REVIEW*) The major internal factor affecting the HIT Program has been the lack of a full-time faculty advisor for the last two years. The Program Advisor for the Medical Assisting Program has been the interim program advisor working with faculty planning classes and meeting with students for program advising. The program is experiencing low enrollment due to the lack of marketing and the fact that many colleges are offering their HIT programs online. It is anticipated that the new full time faculty hire will manage this declining enrollment. A major external factor affecting the HIT Program is its reaccreditation status. The Program is scheduled for reaccreditation in The program was scheduled for a self study in 2016 but the Department Chair and interim advisor were able to delay the self study until fall 2017 and the site visit to spring 2018 until a new full-time faculty advisor was in place. This new faculty advisor will be tackling both low enrollment and the reaccreditation process in The Bureau of Labor Statistics has a projected growth of 22% for Health Information Technologists for the years

(*ANSWER ONLY FOR 3-YEAR PROGRAM REVIEW*) The HIT Program received approval for a tenure-track faculty position in spring The position was posted in late spring and interviews were completed in October The final interview took place in November The position will be filled for the spring 2016 semester. As mention earlier, the HIT program classroom was updated to a classroom/computer lab. Over the past several years, there has been major changes in the job market for HIT professionals. Computer applications are a major component of the job and essentially, all HIM tasks. The classroom was upgraded from five computers to 38 computers funded by a successful CTE grant and is used for all classes and open lab hours. PROGRESS - OTHER: Summarize your department's progress to date on the major planning objectives identified in the last program review (excluding progress already cited in the resource-linked progress question). (*ANSWER ONLY FOR 3-YEAR PROGRAM REVIEW*) ICD-10-CM/PCS is fully implemented into the HIT and MA curriculum. ICD-10-CM/PCS was federally approved to begin on October 1, Students have been instructed in ICD-10-CM/PCS for the last two years and are prepared to enter the workforce. PLANNING: After analyzing your data trends and evaluating the progress you've made over the last year and how well you are meeting your unit outcomes, indicate your department s major planning objectives for next year ( ). (*ANSWER ONLY FOR 3-YEAR PROGRAM REVIEW*) Objective #1: Site License for 3M Encoder and Northstar Learning Certification Exam practice Specialized software training is essential to graduates entering the workplace. The 3M Encoder is an electronic coding software program used in the hospital inpatient and outpatient environment. 3M is an industry standard and provides a student version of its software to schools for training purposes. This software is used by both the HIT and MA programs for classes such as HIT 73A, ICD-10-CM Coding, HIT 73B, ICD-10-PCS Coding, MED 70, Medical Bookkeeping and Insurance, MED 72, Advanced Insurance Billing, and MED 73, Advanced Medical Manager. Without this software, HIT graduates will not be prepared to enter the workplace. Northstar Learning (Edmentum) provides online certification review practice for the CCA exam. The exam is an option for HIT, HIT Coding Specialist, Medical Biller, and Medical Administrative Assisting students to prepare of the CCA examinations. Objective #2 Computer tables for Room 301 This is a joint objective between the Medical Assisting and Health Information Technology Programs. The MA computer lab has 34 student computer stations and the HIT computer lab has 39. The HCT 61, Introduction to Health Care, course enrolls students because it serves both programs. The class is 3 hours lecture, 2 hours lab. The lab component of the course uses both classroom for the lab assignments. The lecture commonly takes place in the JA Auditorium and breaks out for the lab section which requires both computers classrooms. The labs also serve for testing for the HIT, MA, and the Paramedic Programs. Having both labs equipped with ergonomically safe furniture is imperative. Objective #3. Electronic Medical Record Program (EHR) We are still searching for an affordable EHR Program to train students on the Electronic Health Record. The HIT program currently does not have an EHR specific class nor does it have a program where students can practice inputting patient data simulating the work environment. Curriculum Currency Title 5 requires departments to review all curricula (courses, certificates, degrees, sequences) in each program for currency, relevance, content, and requisites every every six years (for CTE departments, every two years). Please review the data on your currency (showing a list of all activity from last year, all courses and programs that are one year from losing currency, and all courses/programs out of currency) and comment below. Please address how well your department is meeting this requirement.

4 Page 4 of 9 All HIT course outlines of record are current but need to be updated within the next year. There are new changes in the HIT accreditation standards requiring all course outlines to be reviewed and updated for these new standards. Plans to update these course outlines in the spring and fall, 2016 are in place. Title 5 requires every CTE department or program to have an Advisory Committee that meets at least once per year. Please describe your advisory committee -- its membership, when it last met, and links to or locations of agendas/minutes. (provide url if located on a website) Please address how well your department is meeting this requirement. An advisory committee meeting has not be held in two years since the retirement of Marie Conde. It is expected that the new full-time faculty advisor will be contacting the existing members and soliciting new members for an advisory committee meeting sometime in late spring or summer. Prior meetings have been done through telephone conference calls allowing for members to schedule their time. However, we hope to have the next meeting on campus so the members can see the new classroom and meet with the new faculty. Assessment Currency According to the CCSF Assessment Plan, outcomes are assessed for services and programs and courses at least once every 3 years. Please comment on how you are currently satisfying this 3-year benchmark. The HIT Program faculty completes SLOs for their classes using the CurricuNet program every semester. However, outcome assessment is required by the accrediting agency. All graduates are surveyed for their satisfaction with the program and employer surveys are sent to evaluate the graduates' preparedness. The Program Advisor is aware and will comply with institutional deadlines for submission of SLOs assessments and the linkage of SLOs to PSLOs to ILOs by the February deadline. Resource Requests 3M Encoder and Northstar Site Licenses Item Description The 3M Encoder software is used by both the HIT and MA programs. It is an industry standard and makes the graduate more marketable in the workplace since many hospitals use this coding software. The Northstar Learning software provides certification practice tests for students and graduates, specifically the Coding Specialist, Medical Biller, and Medical Administrative Assisting students. These practice tests can prepare students for the CCA, CCS, and CPC examinations. Funds for the 3M Encoder and Northstar Learning were provided through the CTE grant for this year, but the award letter stated that the cost of these two software programs is to be institutionalized and will not be funded through CTE grant in the future. Type of request Technology Brief Description The 3M Encoder is essential to classes in both the HIT and MA programs. It provides ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding practice, chart abstraction, as well as references such as Coding Clinic (coding publication), pharmacology, and anatomy. The Northstar Learning practice tests are essential to certification exam practice since the actual exams are taken online.

Both accreditations require students to practice coding manually and electronically using coding software. Both accreditation agencies require certification preparation as part of the course curriculum. Primary Board Priority Fall 2015: 5. Improve student success, especially in closing the achievement gap. Secondary Board Priority Fall 2015: 1. Develop processes and implement changes to meet accreditation standards for accreditation reaffirmation. Link to Institutional accreditation requirements Without the 3M Encoder, students will not be adequately trained to enter the workplace. They will also not meet accreditation competency for using electronic coding software. They may not be properly prepared for the various certification exams students can take after graduation. Link to Your Unit Planning Objectives Object 1: Purchase the 3M Encoder and Northstar Learning site licenses yearly to support our coding courses and prepare students to take their perspective certification exams. Link to Learning, Service, and/or Program Outcomes (i.e. Outcome Statements) Both the MA and HIT Programs list as an outcome to sit and pass their perspective certification exams. For HIT, the certification is the RHIT or CCA exams. For Medical Assisting, the certification is the CMA, CCA, or CPC exams.

Monitor the certification exams for passage of the exam and scores in the coding specific areas. Extent of Benefit Students will pass their certification exams and be more marketable in the workplace. All certification exams include a coding component, so students will be prepared for the this component. Operational Necessity NA This resource request depends on the following other requests Computer Tables for Room 301 Item Description Replace broken, worn-out student stations with new computer tables in the Medical Assisting Computer Lab, Room 301. There are two broken keyboard tables which can not be used. The stations are more than 10 years old. They have become a liability to students. We want to replace them with computer tables which has been done in other computer labs. We also have several broken chairs in need of replacement. Type of request Facilities Brief Description Replace the broken and worn computer stations in Room 301 with new computer tables for the entire classroom. This will provide longevity to the lab. This lab is used by the HIT program for HCT 61, Introduction to Health Care, course. Two computer labs are used for this class since it enrolls students. The student are divided between the two labs to complete their lab assignments. Room 308, the HIT classroom and computer lab has only 39 computers. This lab was updated in spring. The MA computer stations are over 10 years old. Type of request Technology Brief Description Our goal is to purchase EHR software so students can input patient data as they would in a hospital or outpatient environment. We have yet to find a sustainable student software program where we can simulate the workplace.
