2 Rebekah Salmon Assistant Headteacher (Sixth Form) Welcome to Sixth Form. I am very proud to be leading the Sixth Form, an exciting, fun and vibrant community in which to continue your education to A level or BTEC. Sixth Form offers a wide range of fantastic opportunities for our students to study and further their skills supported by excellent and innovative teaching in state of the art facilities, providing varied experiences both inside and outside the classroom. Our subject specialists and dedicated sixth form team enable our sixth formers to gain the qualifications and experiences they need to access university, further education and the career of their choice. Lauren Roberts Director of Sixth Form We offer sixth form places to both successful Year 11 students from School as well as some recommended external students from other schools. 3 Kieran Osbourne Executive Head, School Partnerships Hayes School Since forming a federation with Hayes School, School has gone from strength to strength. For three years we have enjoyed some of the best facilities in London and we are now benefiting from working with a school recently designated outstanding by Ofsted. The Head of Hayes, Kieran Osborne, is now Executive Head at and together we have created an academic community where high achievers thrive. has the highest expectations for the behaviour and achievements of all students believing that everyone can achieve. We have introduced many of the strategies and approaches used at Hayes to ensure students achieve excellence. As a consequence, has achieved the best ever exam results and the biggest ever single year improvement, 84% A*-C A level Our collective drive to improve outcomes for all students means we have a relentless focus on improving the classroom experience for students through staff training and close monitoring of classroom practice. All staff are asked the question would it be good enough for your child? and these are the standards and expectations that are at the core of the school. As a result, all our students are challenged to make above average progress regardless of background or previous experience. Sports We are very excited to be working in partnership with Fulham FC to provide a Sports Foundation at to maximise opportunities for those students who want to enjoy sport at the highest level. The Sports Foundation ensures that all of our talented sportsmen and women will have the opportunity to participate in professional football as part of their sixth form course and/ or as an enrichment activity. They will also develop their own coaching skills working with younger students and our local primary schools * Your future starts here 5
4 Performing Arts Sonia Newton Performing Arts and Sixth Form Enrichment Our vast range of courses are taught in state of the art facilities. Sixth form students have the opportunity to perform regularly and have opportunities to work with our musician in residence and artist in residence as well as accessing high class individual vocal and instrumental tuition. You can take part in and help lead dance groups, our award winning singing group Vocalize, the school band and choir. Enrichment I am very excited about the superb enrichment opportunities at our Sixth Form. As the KS5 Enrichment Co-ordinator I have designed the KS5 Enrichment to give our students an extra hour a week to develop the skills they are working on in their lessons further and to experience something new. We wanted to create a sense of belonging and pride for our sixth form students, and through the enrichment programme we achieve this. All our students opt for an enrichment activity outside of their usual classes and bond through the experience of trying something new and different. We provide our students with many experiences to enhance their learning as well as equipping them with life skills to support their applications for universities and employment. Our Key Stage 5 Enrichment Programme includes: Artist in Residence Cooking School newspaper Sets and scenery for the Global Rock Challenge Letitia s Street Dance classes Fitness class Yoga Fulham FC training sessions South Bank University s Law Short Course (UCAS accreditation) Creative writing club British sign language course Gardening Global Rock Challenge. BTEC students work with KS3 and with our local primary schools on various dance performances as well as productions such as and the chocolate factory. KS5 students have the opportunity to take part in and organise a variety of trips including: Berlin Geneva Italy Zoonation Dance Company Theatre visits Art galleries Ice-skating Thorpe Park Our students are actively encouraged to participate in and contribute to all aspects of school life. Many of our students choose to study our performing arts and sports courses and take part in the vast range of extra-curricular activities that are on offer * Your future starts here 7
5 Leadership & Community We encourage all our students to lead initiatives and share the leadership of our vibrant school community and we believe that all our sixth form students have the potential to be Young Leaders who should play a role in how the school is run. The very best of these are appointed to be Student Ambassadors and we have a team of Year 12 and Year 13 Student Ambassadors supporting whole school events and community work as well as many student leaders working alongside teachers in KS3 and KS4 classes, working as technicians, mentors, and leading by example in our school and wider community. Some of our student ambassadors are also part of the Lewisham Pupil Ambassadors working in the wider community, alongside other young people in Lewisham on projects and initiatives. Subira Damali (Year 13) As a young child I always had a love for being centre stage in almost everything, which developed my interest in performing. I went to a variety of drama schools as a young child including D&B and Theatre Train where I took part in many performances. While at school I was mentored by Urban Synergy who specialise in helping young people become the best that they can be. They support young people on a mentoring programme to help them and to push them forward with their chosen career path. I am now a mentor for Urban Synergy I applied to join sixth form in Year 12 as it had the perfect courses and ethos for me. I am currently in Year 13. I spend a great deal of my time doing school work, helping with sixth form events and giving back to my local community. sixth form has given me the skills and determination to become a better performer and a more confident young leader. I am now working for GLYPT, teaching young people from the ages of about 4 to 17, dancing, singing, acting and Musical Theatre. I find it great fun and very rewarding although it can be challenging at times as many young people are not always motivated. Last summer I worked with young people teaching them to write their own scripts for theatre. I also worked with a company that specialised in the spoken word, lyric writing, singing and rapping, training young people to put their talent on paper. I consider myself a positive role model and enjoy working with the younger students and with young people across Lewisham, helping to make a bright future for myself and others. Subira is currently working with Dig Deptford and Young Company. I am studying at Sixth Form in Year 13. I spend a great deal of my time doing school work, helping with sixth form events and giving back to my local community Subira Damali -Yr * Your future starts here 9
