1 Television Production: Certificate of Achievement CA EDD data reveals positive growth in media and media related jobs. Producers and directors can expect an increase of 2.5% in San Francisco (SF), South San Francisco (SSF), Redwood City (SOC code 27202) between 202 to Wages: $52.66 mean/ $43.89 Median. Camera operators can expect a 20% increase in jobs in SF, SSF, Redwood City (SOC code 27403). Wages: $35.45 mean / $29.22 median. Radio and TV announcers will remain stable in the area (SOC code 27 30). Wages $43.78 mean / $23.99 median. However, Statewide demand is expected to increase 2.8% in California,.8% in Fresno and 23.3% in the Inland Empire. Broadcast Media Industry standard expectations are that entry level employees must seek employment is smaller markets and work their way back to larger markets. Since the San Francisco Bay Area media market is the 5th largest in the United States, it is assumed that most of our students who hope to break into broadcasting will find their first jobs elsewhere. Consequently it is important to look outside the immediate region for job demand. It is important to note that the EDD reports that 66% of these workers are independent contractors. EDD webpage lists City College of San Francisco and San Francisco State as training providers for this field. All other providers listed are private and very expensive. (BEMA) students proportionally are more likely to be African American, Latino and financial insecure than City College as a whole. Underrepresented Minorities (URM) and financially insecure BEMA students rely on cost efficient trainings not available nearby. Television producers and editors trained in BEMA find jobs in all aspects of the media industry. Currently BEMA alums are employed as: onair news talent at KFVSTV Cape Girardeau, MO, programming manager at Twitch TV, camera operator at ESPN Sports, creative services director at KQED TV, business manager at San Bruno Cable, and teaching assistant at Bay Area Video Coalition. Indeed.com shows 38 jobs for television producer within 25 miles of San Francisco for such companies as Amazon Studios, NBCUniversal (Sports), Uber, and Fox Televsion Studios. A search for Video Editor reveals 2 jobs. Sample companies advertising are George Lucas Educational Foundation, Go Pro, and Sony.
