3 COLLEGE FAIRS OPEN HOUSES INFORMATION SESSIONS Frostburg University will host the following Saturday Open House Events in the Lane University Center on March 29 th & April 12 th, from 9:30am -2:00pm. Please register online at ************Please be sure to mark your calendars to attend the Juniors / College Planning Night here at Rockville on Tuesday April 1 st, at 7:00pm in the Cafeteria. This meeting is for both juniors and their parents. Juniors come and hear what Admissions Officers are looking for when they start reviewing your college applications this fall. You want to be prepared and have your applications stand out from the others. Parents come and hear what you should be doing and looking for during those college visits. This is your time to ask the questions and get the answers. So have your pen and paper ready for tips and notes. 4 Juniata College will host their Junior Open House on April 5, 2014 from 10:00am 2:00pm. Students and their families will tour the campus, meet faculty and students at an academic fair, and learn about the admissions process, scholarship and financial opportunities from members of the admissions and financial aid staff. Frostburg State University / Department of Music will host their Student for a Day Program on April 8 th for students wishing to experience life as a music major. They will see the curriculum and participate in classes as if they were a current music major. They will also receive a Free music lesson from a Music Faculty member, speak with admissions and financial aid representatives and tour the campus during their visit. Rockville Juniors will attend the National College Fair at the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair Grounds on Thursday, April 10th at 9:30 am. Applications are available in the Career Center and must be postmarked by March 28, The Masonic Charities of Maryland has announced their 2014 Masonic Educational Grant. To be eligible, students must be a high school graduating senior who are U.S. citizens and a resident of the State of Maryland. Applicants are not required to have an affiliation with the Masonic Organization or be a member of any religious denomination. The $500 Grant can be used at any two year, four year

7 college/university or vocational institution. Applications are available in the Career Center and are Not to be mailed to the organization. All applications must be completed and returned to Ms. Harris in the Career Center no later than March 31, The Esperanza Education Fund will award scholarships of at least $5,000 up to $20,000 to students who were born outside of the United States or have two parents who were born outside of the United States, and are graduating seniors and plan to enroll full time at an accredited public college or university; regardless of their ethnicity, national origin or immigration status. Applications are available only online at and must be completed by April 1, The Absalom Jones Scholarship program is now accepting applications for this $1,000 scholarship. Applicants must be a high school senior attending a school in Montgomery County, Prince Georges County, Charles County or St. Mary s County Or is a member of a parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Washington. Applicants must be planning on attending a college/university, vocational/technical institute or a seminary and are in need of financial assistance. Applications are available in the Career Center and must be postmarked by April 4, 2014.the The Alex Pope Never Back Down Foundation has announced their 2014 Difference Makers College Scholarships. These $2,500 scholarships will be awarded to those recipients who notice and act upon a challenge, injustice or need for change in their community, school, or family. Applications are available in the Career Center and must be postmarked April 9 th. The Alfred Street Baptist Church Foundation is accepting applications for their 2014 Scholarships. They will be awarding twenty one-year Legacy Scholarships which will range from $1,000 to $25,000 and two $20,000 Millennium Scholarships ($5,000 annually for up to 4 years). These scholarships are available to All graduating seniors who are a US citizen, with a minimum 2.75 GPA, plan on attending a 4 year college or university, have a minimum SAT score (critical reading, math and writing) of 1400 or a minimum ACT of 19. 8 The Clare and Robert Moore Scholarship Fund has announced their $1,000 scholarship to an incoming first year student who has been accepted and plans on majoring in English at Notre Dame of Maryland University. Applications are available online at and must be received by April 15, The Rockville Scholarship Foundation is now receiving applications for their 2014 Scholarship Program. This scholarship is open to graduating seniors residing within the corporate city limits of Rockville and plan on attending a college or university. Applications are available in the Career Center and must be postmarked no later than April 15, The Board Of Trustees Academic Specialty Scholarship is available for seniors planning on attending Montgomery College in the fall. This scholarship will provide tuition and fees up to a maximum of 15 credits. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be admitted into a degree program at Montgomery College. (Information on the degree programs may be found in their Montgomery College Catalog). Applications are available in the Career Center and must be April 30, Senator Jennie Forehand, District 17, is accepting applications from seniors residing in District 17 for her Senatorial Scholarships. Applications are available online at All applications must be received by May 2, Montgomery College Board of Trustees Academic Potential Scholarship is seeking One Nomination from every high school for a candidate planning on attending Montgomery College. The Nominee must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. If interested in being nominated please see Ms. Harris. Again only One nomination per school will be accepted. Nomination forms are available in the Career Center and all nominations must be received by May 15, The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity will be awarding their Ira Dorsey Scholarship to a Male graduating senior in recognition of their academic excellence and contributions to their school and community. This is a one-time $1,500 scholarship and will be paid to any 4 year college or university. Applications are available in the Career Center and must be post marked no later than Friday, May 16, 2014.

9 Senator Roger Manno has announced the opening of his 2014 Scholarship Awards for students residing in the 19 th legislative district. These scholarships will be awarded to students without and with special needs. Special needs are those applicants with pervasive developmental disorders (PDD), autism, learning disabilities, emotional or behavioral, mental health challenges, developmental delays or other special needs. Applicants must be a senior planning on enrolling in a college or university, professional or trade school in the state of Maryland. Applicants may use this scholarship at an out of school if their major is not available at any Maryland institution. The Maryland Hispanic Achievement Scholarship is now open and accepting applications for the 2014 scholarship awards. This scholarship which will be awarded in the amount of $2,000, is for Hispanic students with a minimum 2.5 GPA, planning on attending a college or university in the state of Maryland, with financial need. Applicants must also have leadership and community involvement. The SunTrust Off To College Scholarship Sweepstakes is available to high school seniors planning on attending a college or university. Eligibility is not based on GPA or financial need. 10 The Triple-Impact Competitor Scholarship is open to High School Junior Student- Athletes who have made positive contributions in the following areas: making oneself better; teammates better; and the game better. These scholarships will range between $1,000 and $2,000 and are ONLY open to high school Juniors playing for a high school team or in a club sport. Online applications are available at The Herb Block Scholarship is available for students planning on attending a community college in the DC Metro area. This scholarship will provide up to $8,000 per academic year and or up or $16,000 over the life of the scholarship. This scholarship recognizes high achievers and students with financial need. 11 The University of Southern California has announced their summer programs for high school seniors. Their 2 or 4 week college immersion experience will offer them a preview of freshman year. Students who successfully complete the 4 week College Credit program will receive 3 transferrable USC elective credits. Limited financial assistance is available for students wishing to attend the 4 week program. The American Institute of Architects Potomac Valley Chapter will host a FREE Workshop for high school students interested in the field of Architecture.
