3 Summary of Data A. Procedure The Career Development Office sent out a survey to all graduates of the Class of 2012 as received from the Registrar s Office. The survey for the Class of 2012 was sent out in May 2013 and information was collected through September 30, The Career Development office also consulted faculty members, graduates directly, and social networking. For the purpose of this report, the Class of 2012 refers to those graduates who completed their graduation requirements by January 2012, May 2012 or July B. General Findings The following summary is based on data collected. Information was collected from the traditional undergraduate program. EXCEL alumni with bachelor or associate degrees and Graduate School alumni were not included. 173 graduates in the Class of 2012 Contact was made with 97% of the class or 167 graduates From those contacted: Full-time Employment: 67% Part-time Employment: 14% Graduate School: 14% Substitute Teaching: 1% Unemployed: 5% C. Observations In reviewing information from the Class of 2012 the following trends were evident: With the cutbacks that public schools have endured, Huntington University s education majors had a very high employment rate. Part time jobs -More students are working 2 or 3 part time jobs. -Many graduate students have part time jobs while they attend school. -Choosing to live in a certain area could be a factor in why they are currently working part time. 3

This change in totals is due to people who double major. In order for accurate counts and percentages for each major you have to include double majors in the Employment Statistics section. * Please note that 4 majors in the Employment Statistics section have 2 numbers and a dash (/) listed in the category "# of Grads." The first number is the actual number of students HU graduated for that major in The second number is the number of students we were able to find information about. For example: in the Psychology major HU graduated 12 students. We were able to contact 10 of them and listed the combined information about their major related jobs, graduate schools, and unemployment according to 10 graduates rather than 12. * Please note that the "Unemployment" section includes graduate students unlike the percentage on page 2. E. Alumni Pursuing Graduate Studies (Full or Part-Time Basis) Area of Graduate Studies # of Majors not Students Bible and Religion-Theology and Religious Studies 2 Biology 1 Biology Pre-Med 2 Educational Ministries and Missions 1 English 2 Exercise Science 3 History 1 Journalism 1 Missions 1 Philosophy 1 Psychology 5 Social Work 4 Sociology 3 Youth Ministries 1 Total 28 * Please note that the total for this category in the Employment Statistics section and the Alumni Pursuing Graduate Studies section is different than sections to come because this is the total of majors attending graduate school, not total number of students. There are 5 students who double majored and are now attending graduate school. 5
