9 What is fluency? 9 - Fluency in this context refers to 1. Smooth transition from secondary to higher education 2. Well working practices in recognizing prior learning and competences 3. Strengthened learning abilities and skills

10 Why do we need fluency? 10 - The objectives of fluent pathways are: 1. Increase learning motivation 2. Improve study performance 3. Reduce amount of dropping out 4. Shorten studying times 5. Support graduation and employability 6. Improve access to higher education 7. Increase the competence basis of education on secondary and higher level

11 11 Case VÄYLÄ - VÄYLÄ = a pathway referring to the pathway of studies from vocational education to higher education - Studies can be accredited later as part of the student s degree studies at Karelia UAS - Particularly aimed at students who are planning to study at a university of applied sciences but may wake up of interest of others, too

14 14 Objectives for the future - From regional pilot into nation wide practice - Already new just funded national projects spreading and further developing the practice - Joint studies i.e. in entrepreneurship for second and higher education students - Joint e-learning facilities and courses, totally new e-learning pedagogy - Ministry of Education and Culture closely supporting the process - Strong will to support young people in their education and entrance to the working life - Strong will to prevent becoming excluded - Fluent education is seen as one of the keys for supporting welfare and wellbeing
