The stipend for the first year is $,0 and comes in two parts: a teaching assistantship (consisting of a 10-month stipend of $1,66) and summer support ($,8, available through a summer fellowship or teaching assistantship). A summer fellowship requires enrollment in at least 1 credit hour. A summer assistantship requires the student to be on campus during the summer. The annual stipend paid to teaching assistants is considered taxable income. The fee scholarship, which covers tuition and related fees, is nontaxable and will cover a minimum of 90% of the credit hour fees for a resident and a minimum of 9% for a non-resident. This means students should be prepared to pay the remaining percentage of credit hour fees plus any mandatory or course-related fees, which amount to approximately $,. ($1, per semester). Many of these fees provide students with free access to things such as bus transportation in town, computers across campus, IU activities, and services at the campus clinic (in addition to the healthcare plan). Based on the nonresident tuition rates, the fee scholarship component of our offer has an annual monetary value of approximately $,16.8.
