1 SCHOOL DISTRICT OF HATBORO- HORSHAM Minutes January 22, 2013 The regular meeting of the Board of Directors of the School District of Hatboro- Horsham was called to order by President, Dr. Russel Bleiler at 7:06 p.m. on the above date in the board room of the administration building. Present: Mrs. Margaret Lotter, Mrs. Kelley Winters, Mr. Thomas Hagan, Mr. Mark Opalisky, Mr. Louis Polaneczky, and Mrs. Deborah Mullen. Absent were: Mrs. Barbara LaSorsa and Mrs. Marian McCouch. Also present were Dr. Curtis Griffin, Superintendent; Ms. Monica Taylor, Assistant Superintendent; Mr. John Nodecker, Assistant Superintendent; Mr. Robert Reichert, Director of Business Affairs; and Mr. Jack Dooley, School Solicitor. Also present were Mr. Dennis Williams, High School Principal; Mrs. Kari Hill, Elementary Principal, Ms. Tiffany Hood, Elementary teacher, Also Mr. Eric Shea, HHEA. Also present were High School students, Mr. Sean Raymond and Ms. Lexi Brooks, and elementary student Lily Bigley and her family. Also citizens Mr. Trent Coombs, Mr. Gary Conner, Ms. Joan Baist, Ms. Lynn Davis, Ms. Dorothy Spiewak, Mr. Bruce O Hart, Ms. Theresa Brown and Mr. Jeff Fread. Recognition Mrs. Kari Hill introduced Crooked Billet 5 th grader, Lily Bigley. Lily was recognized for her award-winning artwork which was included in the PA Attorney General s 2013 calendar. She is one of 13 winners of the 16 th Annual Drug Free Calendar Contest. All attending Board Members received a calendar. Delegations Minutes The minutes of the meeting of December 17, 2012, were approved as presented (Polaneczky, Opalisky, all ayes). Student Representative s Report Ms. Lexi Brooks provided the School Board with the Student Representative s Report. Students are in the process of taking final exams; Keystones have been completed; new semester starts Jan. 28; students were very impressed by speaker Chris Herren; Boys Basketball team is presently undefeated; Feed a Friend Drive was successful; High School will be holding their 31 st talent show.

2 Superintendent s Report Dr. Curtis Griffin This month is School Board Recognition Month. D thanked everyone for their dedication and tireless efforts. A consultant has been approved for hire by the HLRA. The property is still owned by the Navy and under evaluation. PDE holds a second meeting in March re School District Performance Profile. Eastern Center for Arts & Technology Report Mrs. Deborah Mullen A. Resolution for the Operating Budget for the Eastern Center for Arts and Technology was approved (Attachment B). (Polaneczky, Opalisky, all ayes) Federal Programs Report Ms. Monica Taylor Gearing up for the Federal Programs Audit which will be held in the Spring. More information will be forthcoming. Intermediate Unit Report A. Resolution for the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit Budget was approved. (Attachment C) (Polaneczky, Opalisky, all ayes) Legislative Committee Report Hatboro-Horsham Educational Foundation Report - Ms. Monica Taylor Introduction of newly hired Executive Director, Julia Rubio. HHEF Co-sponsored Chris Herren, speaker. Homebound Instruction The board granted approval of homebound instruction for the following students (Opalisky, Polaneczky, all ayes): M.H. Grade 10 effective 1/4/13 for 5 hours per week for 6 weeks. G.M. Grade 10 effective 1/14/13 for 5 hours per week for 3 months. Acknowledgement Approved - Robert Reichert, Director of Business Affairs as Title IX Coordinator and as the Designee for Right to Education and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), effective January (Opalisky, Polaneczky, all ayes)

(Attachment #L) Personnel The following supportive personnel changes were approved (Polaneczky, Lotter, all ayes). A. Resignations Mary T. Dougherty full-time Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent, Administrative Building effective 1/11/13. Reason: Other Employment. Dr. Griffin expressed his appreciation for Mary s assistance over the past several years and wished her good luck in her new endeavor. Several Board Members concurred. Dr. Griffin introduced Peggy Stebner, who is filling in as his Administrative Assistant until a final candidate is hired.

Susan Cronin for G.M., Grade 10 effective 1/14/13 for 5 hours per week for up to 3 months. B. Family Medical Leave/Child Rearing Leave Katharine L. Drabold, 6th Grade Math, Keith Valley Family Medical Leave/Child Rearing Leave effective on or around 6/4/13 through the first semester of the school year. Jaime N. Rodgers, Health and Physical Education, Keith Valley Family Medical Leave/Child Rearing Leave effective on or around 5/31/13 through the first semester of the school year. Theresa Harris, Secretary, Senior High Family Medical Leave effective 2/22/13 through 3/15/13. Presentation Mr. Robert Reichert presented Budget Projections. Budgetary Transfer and Adjustments The board approved the budgetary transfers and adjustments presented in Attachment N. (Polaneczky, Opalisky, all ayes).

6 PDE-4605 Residences The board approved the following PDE-4605 Residencies (1306 students living outside the Hatboro-Horsham School District) (Opalisky, Winters, all ayes): Mr. J.L., parent of M.L. who was placed in Montgomery County Youth Center effective 7/16/12 to 8/27/12 and is being educated by the Norristown Area School District. Mr. and Mrs. R.C., guardians of B.S. who was placed in Caron Extended Care effective 1/11/13 and is being educated by the Berks County Intermediate Unit. List of Bills Approval was granted for the list of bills for January 22, 2013 (Lotter, Opalisky, all ayes). Check number and Check numbers through Voided check numbers , , and (Attachment #O) Enrollment Report The board approved the enrollment report (Attachment P). There has been an overall decline.
