11 THE Practicum portfolio NOT c practica experiences occur under conditions of supervision appropriate to the specific training objectives of the program; d practica experiences are provided appropriate recognition through the awarding of academic credit; e practica experiences occur with university involvement appropriate to the specific training objectives of the program; Practica are supervised by an onsite licensed school psychologist and university-based school psychologist professor with regular weekly contact by each. Practicum students maintain a log of time spent on-site relative to program training objectives. Students take three 3 practicum credit hours for each semester 4 that they take Psyx587. Practica students meet with university-based supervisors weekly during which time case studies are reviewed and topics such as best practices in school psychology, legal and ethical issues, and evidenced-based interventions are discussed. 13 THE Psyx680 Consultation and Collaboration NOT 3 The comprehensive internship is the culminating experience in school psychology graduate preparation. The successful school psychologist candidates: a demonstrate, under supervision, their ability to integrate knowledge and skills in providing a broad range of school psychological services. The internship experience: i is provided at or near the end of the formal training period; ii is designed according to a written plan that provides the student opportunities to gain experience in the delivery of a broad range of school psychological services; iii occurs in a setting appropriate to the specific training objectives of the program; The internship experience occurs after the completion of the MA and all coursework. The internship experience occurs during the third and final year of the SPSY MA/Ed.S. program. Exceptions would only be considered in extenuating circumstances and would need approval from the program director. All interns, in conjunction with their onsite supervisors, detail an internship plan that explains their intern experiences in relation to the 10 NASP domains of competency, which coincide with Montana Standards Ici-Icxi. s are carried out in school settings. Field-based internship supervisors hold a valid credential as a school psychologist for that portion of the internship that is in a school setting. That portion of the internship, which appropriately may be in a nonschool setting, requires supervision by an appropriately credentialed psychologist; vi is supervised. Field-based internship supervisors are responsible for no more than two interns at any given time. University internship supervisors are responsible for no more than 12 interns at any given time; vii is based on a positive working relationship and represents a collaborative effort between the university program and field-based Students take 12 total credit hours for their internship experience, typically six credits per semester. supervisors are currently and appropriately credentialed within the state, and they have to have had a least three years of fulltime experience working as a fully credentialed school psychologist. In cases where a minor portion of the internship is done in another setting, onsite supervisors must be equally experienced and appropriately credentialed. Field-based internship supervisors are responsible for no more than two interns per year. University supervisors are responsible for no more than twelve interns per year. University supervisors maintain monthly contact with interns and regular contact with onsite internship supervisors. 15 supervisors to provide an effective learning experience for the student. University internship supervisors provide at least one on-site contact per semester with each intern and supervisor; viii is a provision for participation in continuing professional development activities; ix is systematically evaluated for quality in a manner consistent with the specific training objectives of the program; THE Students are expected to participate in, and document, professional development activities while on internship. The internships are evaluated according to the systems built into each intern s written plan. The plans must comply with the program objectives. Interns are also evaluated by their on-site supervisors using the supervisor form. Additionally, they are evaluated by a consumer of their services using the internship consumer form. At least 600 hours of the internship are completed in a school setting; b complete a field-based internship supervised, on average, at least two hours per week of direct supervision for each intern; c accept an internship placement that provides appropriate support for the internship experience including: i a written agreement specifying the period of appointment and any terms of compensation; ii a schedule of appointments, expense reimbursement, a safe and secure work environment, adequate office space, and support services consistent with that afforded agency school psychologists; iii provision for participation in continuing professional development activities; iv release time for internship supervision; and v a commitment to the internship as years. Institutional Report THE Field-based internship supervisors provide at least two hours per week of direct supervision for each intern. Interns, along with their site supervisors, and University supervisor, sign an internship contractual agreement which specifics the period of the internship, as well as terms of compensation. Reimbursement, work conditions, and support services are outlined in the Contract. Students are expected to participate in, and document, professional development activities while on internship. Site agrees to provide adequate buy-out time for onsite supervisor, per internship contractual agreement. 18 4 School psychology training programs employ systematic, valid of candidates, coursework, practica, internship, faculty, supervisors, and resources and use the resulting information to monitor and improve program quality. School psychology graduate programs shall: a establish and maintain an accountability program to assess the knowledge and capabilities of school psychology candidates and of the impact that interns and graduates have on services to children, youth, families, and other consumers; b incorporate different sources of process and performance information e.g., instructional, performance portfolios, field supervisor, systematic valid procedures are used to evaluate and improve the quality of the program, candidate/graduate performance on licensing/certification s, and alumni follow-ups, as appropriate, to evaluate and THE School Psychology faculty meet to go over data regarding student knowledge and capabilities. Specific quantitative criteria gpa, GRE, etc. are not given as the review process is holistic. Academic and professional competencies are articulated in the SP Handbook, as well as the Psychology Department s Policy and Procedures Manual. Academic criteria for continuation in the graduate program are addressed in the above sources. Additionally, academic and professional characteristics e.g., respect for human diversity, communication skills, effective interpersonal relations, ethical responsibility, adaptability, and initiative/dependability are also articulated in a the SP EdS Handbook, as they fall under NASP Training Domains, b in the practicum consumer and supervisor, c in the internship consumer and supervisor, and d in domains that are routinely evaluated by all program faculty in semesterly. 21 students to no more than one-third of the student s program; f exclude credit requirements for undergraduate study, study that is remedial, or study which is designed to remove deficiencies in meeting requirements for program admission; and g include a full-time continuous residency or an alternate planned experience for all students. Programs allowing alternate planned experiences as a substitute for fulltime residency must demonstrate how those experiences are equivalent to experiences commonly associated with residency requirements. THE Program requirements are limited to the prescribed program of graduate study, which does not include remedial credits, or prerequisite undergraduate courses toward admission. Students complete the program coursework in two years and an internship in their third. Other arrangements would be considered an exception and would require program approval. Exceptions have been given for personal situations necessitating a leave of absence and is possible in cases when someone does a halftime internship over a two year period noted above.
