8 ASVAB Testing The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitute Battery Test) is a military entrance test for the Armed Services. ALL students planning to enlist in the military must take the ASVAB. ASVAB is for all students planning to go to college, a vocational school, enlist in the military or students not sure what they want to do yet. ASVAB offers a career exploration program that can provide information about your skills, abilities, and interests and help set you on the right course for a satisfying career. The ASVAB Career Exploration Program is a multiple aptitude test (ASVAB) and an interest inventory designed to help you explore the opportunities beyond graduation from FC. It measures aptitudes that are related to success in different jobs. SENIORS that want to take the ASVAB Test on Wednesday, October 19 at 7:15 a.m. must sign up with Ms. Schleicher in the School Counseling Office.

9 How Do I Select A College Gather Information College Guidebooks (ex. College Board College Handbook) Talk to parents, teachers and school counselor Meet with college admissions reps who visit FCHS (check and sign up ahead of time for college visit schedule in school counseling office) Use internet resources to get college information

10 College Decision Making Steps Compile a list of colleges to read/ research Categorize colleges using their Freshman Class Profile in college guidebooks, Opportunities Book or on the internet Reach/Dream School: College you most want to attend and for which your credentials are somewhat similar to the requirements Target/ Match School: College you would be satisfied to attend for your complete college education and for which your credentials meet the average requirement Safety School: College you would be satisfied to attend for a year or more and for which your credentials meet all requirements and your chances of acceptance are certain

13 PARCHMENT Secure Online Transcript Service VBCPS transcripts are now electronic Each student will create a Parchment account Requires a registration code given out at the counselor meeting in October Requires student s school account Student Perm Record the student created Log in and Password This is required for all future transcript requests. Most transcript requests sent via Parchment are free. Official transcript requests made in the school counseling office for a paper transcript will cost $3.00.

15 Requesting Transcripts for The Common Application To request your transcript to be sent to the Common Application: Create an account at and note your Common App ID. Follow the instructions to invite your counselor to be a Recommender. This will trigger an to your counselor, which explains how to submit school forms online. Your Counselor must accept your invitation to be a Recommender. Your Counselor must open your Secondary School Report before you can place a transcript request to the Common Application. Your Counselor must submit your school forms online. Once you have created your Common Application account and invited your counselor to be a Recommender, sign in to your Parchment Account. If you don t have an account yet, you will need to register. Click Order under the name of your school. Type Common App into the search box and click Select. Enter your Common App ID and then continue the ordering process. If you get a payment screen, please pay the amount stated. Once your school has approved your request and uploaded your transcript, your transcript will be sent directly to the Common App where it will be matched to your school forms and submitted on your behalf.

16 NCAA National Collegiate Athletic Association Inform your school counselor if you plan to play college athletics. You need to have the appropriate classes, grades, and SAT/ACT scores to play at Division I or II colleges. College-bound student athletes are required to register with the National Collegiate Athletic Association in order to play for a Division I or II college/university. You must send your transcript to the NCAA via the Parchment website. SAT/ACT scores must also be sent to the NCAA from the SAT/ACT websites. 18 Recommendations The best source of a recommendation is a teacher, coach, or employer that has worked with and observed you on a daily basis. If a college requires a teacher recommendation, ask a teacher who knows you well and would be willing to write a first-rate recommendation about you as a scholar and a person. Please allow 2 WEEKS in advance for your request. Your school counselor will provide academic information about you in the required secondary school report. Contact you school counselor at least 2 WEEKS in advance before your secondary school report is to be mailed.

Mid-Year and Final Grade Reporting If a college requests a mid- year report and/ or a final grade report, please submit the form to Mrs. Speight, School Counseling Secretary.

Enrolled in a program for the economically disadvantaged (i.e. TRIO or Upward Bound) c. Family s annual income falls within the levels listed by the USDA for reduced-price lunches d.
