Professional Identity & Ethics; b. Social and Cultural Diversity; c. Human Growth and Development; d. Career Development; e. Helping Relationships; f. Assessment; and h. Research Design). 1a. Students evaluated the Christian atmosphere and values exemplified in the curriculum at a level of 4.56 on the End of Year Program Evaluation. 1b. 84% of students reported participation in church, mission activities, or other religious experiences on the End of Year Program Evaluation % of graduates interviewed reported employment within their counseling field or a related field, while 82% of interviewed graduates reported enrollment in further graduate study as measured by the Graduate Follow-up Survey questions 14 and 10, respectively. 3a. A revised (50-item) draft of the comprehensive Counseling Knowledge and Skills Test that assesses student knowledge across a majority of the content domains identified as paramount to professional counselors by the Mississippi State Board of Examiners for Licensed Professional Counselors (a. Professional Identity & Ethics; b. Social and Cultural Diversity; c. Human Growth and Development; d. Career Development; e. Helping Relationships; f. Assessment; and h. Research Design) was developed. This draft was administered as a post-test to approximately 31 students enrolled in the Internship (PSY 698) course during Winter 2008 and Spring 2009 terms. The average score was 76%. 1a. This Student Learning Outcome was mission of WCU. Therefore, the learning outcome will be retained. 1b. This Student Learning Outcome was not attained. The expectation of graduate student participation in church, mission activities, or other religious experiences may be too high. However, we believe such participation is consistent with the mission of the university and therefore remains integral to the success of our students and program. As a result, the learning outcome will be retained and new methods for promoting such participation will be explored. 2. This Student Learning Outcome was success of our students and program. retained with increased efforts to monitor employment and additional graduate study data of program graduates. 3a. Progress toward attainment of this Student Learning Outcome continues to be achieved. However, we have not fully reached the goal at this time. Therefore, the learning outcome will be retained and further work on development of the Counseling Knowledge and Skills Test will be pursued. In addition, we will begin exploring potential standardized examinations on counseling knowledge and skills that can be administered in a pre- / post- test format.

5 4. Students will exhibit sufficient mastery of basic counseling microskills and interventions. 5. Students will gain experience with the professional roles and responsibilities of counselors and demonstrate a commitment to ethical practice and professional collaboration.. 4. Faculty will begin to develop a method for formally assessing student mastery of basic counseling microskills. In addition, informal evaluation of microskills will be integrated into the curriculum of the Advanced Theories & Techniques of Counseling (PSY667) course taken by most students toward the beginning of their matriculation. 5a. Students participating in the practicum or internship courses will accrue hours in a field setting consistent with the student s concentration area and receive a satisfactory rating from the field supervisors as evidenced by an overall rating of b. Students participating in practicum or internship courses will demonstrate sufficient levels of professionalism and ethical knowledge as demonstrated by an average supervisor rating of 3.7 across section 2 (Ethical and Professional Conduct) items of the Practicum / Internship Student Evaluation Form. In addition, program faculty will consider the possibility of developing and administering a Pass/Fail exam on professionalism and ethical knowledge to be given during the practicum course (PSY 680). 5c. Program curriculum will continue to encourage student membership in local, regional, and national professional counseling associations as evidenced by the refining and integration of the course topic Professional Organizations and Affiliations into the PSY 600, PSY 601, PSY 632, and PSY 698 courses. Program will explore the possibility of inviting representatives from various counseling related professional organizations to present on their respective organizations to program 4. An initial method for formally assessing student mastery of basic counseling microskills was developed which will involve each student submitting a videotaped simulated counseling session in which the student demonstrates utilization of basic counseling microskills. In addition, methods for expanding the curriculum of the Advanced Theories & Techniques of Counseling (PSY 667) course to include a significant emphasis on microskills training have been discussed. 5a. Of the students participating in a practicum / internship course 96% of them accrued hours in a field setting consistent with the students concentration area. The average overall satisfactory rating of the students by the field and faculty supervisors was 4.7 on a 5-point scale. 5b. Students participating in practicum or internship courses demonstrated a sufficient level of professionalism and ethical knowledge as demonstrated by an average supervisor rating of 4.0 across section 2 (Ethical and Professional Conduct) items of the Practicum / Internship Student Evaluation Form. 5c. The curricula for PSY 601 and PSY 698 were each augmented to include an emphasis on the benefits of student and later professional membership in local, regional, and national professional counseling associations as evidenced by the integration of a course topic such as Professional Organizations and Affiliations into the PSY 601 and PSY 698 courses. PSY 600 and PSY 632 were not augmented to include the Professional Organizations and Affiliations topic due to time constraints. The Counseling Psychology Graduate Program hosted the fall 2008 meeting of the local Pine Belt Counseling Association 4. Progress toward attainment of this Student Learning Outcome has been achieved. However, full realization of the learning goal requires retention of the outcome for the upcoming academic year. We anticipate further discussion focused on refining assessment methods of basic counseling microskills as well as efficient curriculum changes for the PSY 667 to include formal microskills training. Our goal in this regard would be to implement a portion of the curriculum change for the upcoming academic year. 5a. This Student Learning Outcome was partially attained and therefore will be retained for the following year. Ensuring the monitoring of student performance in field experiences consistent with the area of concentration remains important. In addition, we will evaluate and refine, as necessary, the Student Evaluation form utilized to assess student field experience performance. 5b. This Student Learning Outcome was slightly exceeded, but remains integral to the success of our students and program. retained ensuring the monitoring of student knowledge and demonstration of professionalism and ethical practice. 5c. This Learning Outcome was not fully professional development of our students and therefore will be retained. We plan to further refine the course lecture/discussion on Professional Organizations and Affiliations and integrate this curriculum into additional courses such as PSY 600, PSY 632, and PSY 680. We will also explore inviting representatives of various professional organizations to present on their specific organization within selected courses.

6 students. which included a 2-hour presentation on self-mutilation behavior in clinical populations facilitated by two graduate students enrolled in the WCU counseling psychology program. 5d. 10% of students will report student affiliation with local and/or national counseling associations (e.g., American Counseling Association; Mississippi Counseling Association,) as measured by the End of Year Program Evaluation. Program will invite at least one professional organization and/or chapter to hold a meeting at William Carey University hosted by the Graduate Counseling Program. 5d. 10.8% of students reported student affiliation with local and/or national counseling associations (e.g., American Counseling Association; Mississippi Counseling Association,) as measured by the End of Year Program Evaluation 5d. This Learning Outcome was slightly exceeded but remains integral to the professional development of our students and therefore will be retained. We believe the emphasis on the benefits of professional organization affiliations can be improved through targeting of additional courses. Therefore, we will integrate the topic into more courses during the upcoming year. In addition, we will consider additional methods of encouraging professional memberships beyond classroom discussions. For example, we will explore the possibility of hosting for a second time a meeting of a local chapter of a national professional organization and founding a graduate counseling honor society and/or student organization which will also emphasize professional affiliation.
