2 THE DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY Degree Program: BACHELOR OF ARTS IN HISTORY (AB HISTORY) MASTER IN HISTORY (NON-THESIS OPTION) The Department of ory of the College of Arts and Social Sciences offers a four (4) year programs for a Bachelor of Arts degree in ory. The department likewise serves other students of the Institute for basic courses such as Philippine ory, ory of the Muslim Filipinos and other Indigenous People of MINSUPALA and the Life and Works of Dr. Jose Rizal. As we approach the 21 st century, events within and outside of the country pose new challenges, especially those obtaining from trends towards globalization. This early, the Philippines is increasingly drawn into larger issues and problems besetting Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific regions and the world in general. These have created needs which the University can address through the intensification of its role as the feeder of top-rate professionals. Globalization, however, has its own demand. From an internationalist perspective, it requires broader knowledge of events outside the country to understand regional trends and patterns. From a nationalist perspective, however, it requires in-depth knowledge of national history to best appraise the role of the country in larger events. The AB ory curriculum intends to answer these needs. In 1999, the AB ory Curriculum was revised to make it more comprehensive, relevant and holistic. The declared aims of the revised curriculum are: 1. To equip the students with historical knowledge and insights that would enable them to face with confidence the challenges of the new millennium; 2. To develop in them basic skills, values and attitudes needed in their day to day lives, and 3. To instill in them a deep sense of social responsibility ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS 1. High School Graduates. To be admitted into the program, high school graduates should have a general weighted average of 85, and must have passing SASE scores for baccalaureate degrees. They must also pass the interview to be conducted by the Department of ory. 2. Transferees.
