3 GENERAL INFORMATION HISTORY The University was founded on December 31, 1981 by the late Dr. Joseph Cooper, who had a vision of a Theological School of Higher Learning in the city of Hayward, giving men and women an opportunity to learn the Word of God. February 1, 1982, the university was incorporated in the State of California. However, in 2001, the university location was moved to its present facility, st Avenue, Oakland, California MISSION The university is a Non-denominational committed to preparing men and women for many kinds of Christian ministry. The University is dedicated to teach all people and all faiths the Word of God. DISCLOSURE STATEMENT The degrees granted by this institution are authorized under California Code, (CBC) 94739(b)(6). It is recommended that persons enrolling in this institution thoroughly explore the recognition by or transferability to other institutions of Courses and units taken at this institution. The institution is not an accredited school. Accreditation is voluntary and is not recognized as being within the parameters of the function of the U.S. Department of Education. WHEN TO ENROLL Person desiring to enroll in Joseph Theological University, undergraduate or graduate program, must make application to the Office of Admissions. All applicants must submit a complete application along with transcripts and fees. Students may enroll in Joseph Cooper Theological University at any time.

It is assumed that students who are accepted will have personal, academic and spiritual qualification that will enable him/her to succeed in the programs of his/her choice. FACULTY All faculty of the school are chosen on the basis of academic background, spiritual maturity, ministry experience and teaching ability. STUDY SESSION FOR STUDENTS The curriculum has been carefully designed to achieve the goals of the institute for the student, enabling him/her to obtain maximum benefits from their studies. CALENDAR Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and Easter holidays are observed. Prospective enrollees are encouraged to Telephone or Fax the school at any time to discuss personal educational and occupational plans with school personnel prior to enrolling. This school currently does not have scholarship programs, government or otherwise, to provide grants or to pay portions of tuition fees for students.

Those who may have theological difference with the school or its Instructors, especially in controversial matters, should not be a disruptive influence to other students.

6 GRADING SYSTEM: Academic achievement is measured on a standard four point grading System: A- 4 grade point. Academic Excellence B- 3 grade point Above Average C- 2 grade point. Average D-1 grade point.. Failure Inc. - 0 grade point. Withdrawal GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS 1. Satisfactory completion of total units required for the program. 2. An Overall GPA of 3.00 for all work completed 3. Settlement of all financial obligations to J.C.T.U. 4. Payment of Graduation Fees Degrees are awarded in JUNE AND DECEMBER of each academic year. HONORS Honors are awarded in accordance with the following Quality point system to Summa Cum Laude 3.70 to Magna Cum Laude 3.55 to Cum Laude

7 TRANSFER OF CREDIT Transfer of credit from other institutions only applies to the School of Theology. Up to 90 Semester units of previous college work will be accepted for transfer into the undergraduate program, regardless to subject matter. In the graduate program, transfer of credits will be based upon individual evaluation. It is the student s responsibility to provide verification of such work for the Registrar, either by official transcript or some other document. The school reserves the right to evaluate all previous academic work to determine its acceptance. LIFE CREDIT The institution is open to consider giving credit for applicable document work for non-tradition and alternative means of instruction and learning. Good examples would be in-depth seminars, correspondence courses, Bible Study fellowship, field experiences related to ministry, and significant projects. Such credits are awarded by the Academic Review Board and may not exceed 25% of the requirement of the graduate and undergraduate programs. All life experience credits are determined via the Academic Portfolio process. STUDENTS RECORDS This institution is required to maintain student records for a period of five years. A permanent record of students academic work will be maintained. Requests for transcripts of completed work should be made through the School Registrar. ADMISSION All courses are open to any person interested in college level studies. A student need not be pursuing a specific degree, certificate, or diploma to enroll in a course. Admission to a course is by Application/registration and payment fees. FINANCIAL POLICY All financial obligations to the school must be met for the student to receive credit for the classes taken, and to register for the next Semester. Likewise,

8 written application for payment deferment must be submitted to the President at least two weeks before the semester ends. Although this school does not have the financial resources to subsidize to student s educational cost, methods for paying for classes are flexible. These matters are to be individually handled with the President or his appointed financial representative. Joseph Cooper Theological University reserves the right to make necessary changes in the cost structure without notifying the students. PAYMENT OPTIONS 1. Discount Option- To receive a discount on your tuition you must prepay your entire program. The discount is a 10% reduction of tuition. Undergraduate student must prepay a year at a time. 2. Tuition at regular price- To receive a tuition at the posted price you must pay the entire course tuition prior to receiving your course materials. 3. Payment Arrangements- For this privilege of payment you must agree to be faithful and consistent in your payments. A $5.00 payment arrangement fee is added to the tuition price of each course you take. A $2.00 late fee for each late payment added for each payment that is not on time. The payment breakdown as follows: Down payment = 25% of sum of tuition price plus $5.00 fee per Course. Weekly payment = 10% of remaining balance for the next 10 weeks if a student is taking one course in the undergraduate program. REGISTRATION Students may enroll in J.C.T.U. at any time during the year. Application fee is $20.00 (non-refundable) ACADEMIC FEES The policy of J.C.T.U. is to set tuition rate at affordable levels whenever possible. Fees are subject to change. Fees for some programs may vary due to special curriculum and faculty requirement. TUITION REFUND POLICY For Course Tuition Paid in Advance Local Extension Center Students. (Not available at present)

10 Upon written cancellation of enrollment delivered to the school in person, or by certified mail within 3 working days after signing an enrollment agreement, the student shall be refunded all monies paid. Upon written cancellation more than 3 days, but before the date classes application fee and matriculation fee of $7.00 per class. Refunds of tuition fees, not of matriculation and application fees for cancellation after classes are scheduled to begin are based upon the following formula, based upon class start date. a. After one (1) week of Classes Full Tuition b. After two (2) week of Classes 75% refund c. After three (3) weeks of Classes 50% refund d. After four (4) weeks of Classes 25% refund e. After five (5) weeks of Classes NO REFUND POSSIBLE If you prepaid for the entire program- you will receive a full refund on all courses not yet taken. The refund for the course you are currently taking will fall under the pro-rate scale in section 1 above. Students dismissed from the school for reason of conduct, will receive a refund. Courses with insufficient enrollment may be cancelled. In such a case, each enrolled student will receive a full refund. TUITION REFUND POLICY For Distance Education Students (Correspondence) 1. A Course may be cancelled prior to the course materials being shipped from our office. If cancelled prior to shipment you will receive a full refund. 2. After course materials have been shipped a pro-rate refund will apply after all course materials have been returned. The following pro-rate scale applies: a. Within one (l) week full refund less $10.00 for shipping cost. b. Within two (2) weeks 75% of tuition will be returned.

11 c. Within four (4) weeks 50% of tuition will be returned. d. Within Six (6) weeks 25% of tuition will be returned. e. After Six (6) weeks NO REFUND OF TUITION 3. If you prepaid your program tuition to receive a discount, you will receive a full refund on all courses not yet started. The refund from the course you are currently taking will fall under the pro-rate scale in section 2 above. SCHOLASTIC STANDING Students in the undergraduate program who have GPA S below 2.0 in any twelve hour of work will be placed on academic probation. Any graduate student who have a GPA below 3.0 in any twelve hours of work will be placed on academic probation. The student will be given a twenty-four week period for the praising of his/her GPA to the required figure. GENERAL BIBLE CERTIFICATE This one year program of study take 30 hours/credit to complete. These are usually Biblical courses. The exact courses may be chosen by The Review Process, or a standardized curriculum. The Joseph Cooper Theological university offer Distant Course Work (correspondence) designed for the student to progress at his/her own speed. UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAM One to Four year program of studies, of 30 to 120 hours.

12 GRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAM Personalized Study Plan It is J.C.T.U. policy to assist in the selection of an individual plan of study and to design studies that meets the goals and need of the student. Through a program of testing, life experience, resume, portfolio, and academic review the student s program of study is selected, and may be modified at specific points to accommodate possible chances of goals and needs. For information concerning specific program of study please contact the office of Dean of Academic Affairs. DEGREE PROGRAMS The degrees granted by this institution is authorized under the California Education Code, (CBC) 94739(b) (6). It is recommended that persons enrolling in this institution thoroughly explore the recognition of, or transferability to other institution of courses and units taken at this institution. This institute is a Christian educational institution and not a local church. It does not exercise the authority of responsibilities of the local church. Completion of a program of study does not mean that a person is automatically qualified to be ordained or called into the ministry. This is a personal matter between the individual believer and his local church fellowship and/or denomination. 13 SCHOLASTIC REQUIREMENT Each candidate for the Bachelor degree must be a high school graduate or be able to present a Certificate of Eligibility, on the basis of a G.E.D. test. (General Education Development Test). A limited number of older Students who have not completed high school may be accepted if the administration considers them capable of carrying the academic work required. All accepted students who had an average below C in high school, or did not finish high school (or its equivalent) are on probation their first year. If their work is satisfactory, they will continue thereafter as a regular student. To qualify for advanced standing, the degree candidate will be required to furnish letters and/or documents which verify the number of years which are being claimed. Many nationally known institutions of higher learning are allowing advanced standing to a student by evaluating the years the student has been active in the field in which he seeks a degree. J.C.T.U. will evaluate the student s documented claims for advanced standing and allow quarter credit hours accordingly. STATEMENT OF ASSURANCE This catalog is true and correct as purpose with regard to its intent content and policy. The catalog provides the basic educational agreement between the student and school. This catalog was prepared on the basis of the best information available at the time, all information, including statements of fees, course offerings and admission and graduation requirements are subject to change.

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Biblical Studies must have completed and received a high school diploma or its equivalent. To receive the Bachelor Degree the student must complete 120 semester hours.

(3 SH Credit) BI 101 Christian Life: A study of the basis for and the factors involved in the ethical conduct of the individual Christian. (3 SH Credit) BI 102 Genesis-Esther: A course study of the creation to the fall and restoration (3 SH Credit) BI 103 New Testament Book Analysis: A course which examines the basic content of the New Testament. (3 SH Credit) BI 104 Job-Malachi: An examination of scripture with emphasis on God s plan throughout the Old Testament. (3 SH Credit) CH 101 Church History: An introduction to the religious and cultural background of the first century. These books are studied in the framework of their historical context and relation to Israel. Special consideration is given to socio/economic background and theme of each book. This terminal course enables the candidate to apply biblical principles to specific situations which will be encountered. (4 SH Credit) CHPSY 501 CHPSY 501 Psychology of Christian Counseling: A course that will enable the student to connect Bible doctrine with practical living. (3 SH Credit) TH 502 Eschatology: Doctrine of Last Things. An intensive study of the doctrine of last things. Various viewpoints, past and present, are considered and the scriptural evidences of all things which are as yet unfulfilled. (4 SH Credit) TH 502 Comparative Religions: The Living Religion of the world; their teachings and their relation to the Christian faith. (3 SH Credit) TH 503 Old Testament Theology: A study of theology as presented in the Old Testament books from Genesis to Malachi. (3 SH Credit) TH 504 New Testament Theology: A study of the General Epistles and the New Testament prophetical book. (3 SH Credit)

(4 SH Credit) TH 590 Thesis/Alternative Study: (OPTION (1) Thesis) This option requires research in an area related to the student s field of ministry and present a thesis of no less than 8,000 words in the form of two bound copies to J.C.T.U. One copy is for J.C.T.U. and one copy is to be returned to the student. The title of the thesis and subject matter must be presented to J.C.T.U. for approval prior to the beginning of the research project. (OPTION (2) Thesis) The student may elect to do one extra course and a research project of 10,000 to 15,000 words. It is suggested that anyone planning to do a doctorate write the thesis.
