1 November 15, 2006 California State University (CSU) Statewide Pattern The Lower-Division Transfer Pattern (LDTP) consists of the CSU statewide pattern of coursework outlined below, plus campus-specific coursework, bringing the total pattern to at least 60 but no more than 70 for students to complete at a California Community College (CCC). The CSU statewide pattern of coursework for CCC students who plan to major in at any CSU campus offering the major includes: Completion of lower-division general education requirements, following either the CSU General Education Breadth (GE-Breadth) or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) pattern; Completion of the CSU graduation requirements in United States History, Constitution and American Ideals; and Completion of additional as specified in (3) below. Please note that the information here is an academic and curricular advising tool: a roadmap that enables transfer students to efficiently and effectively progress towards the CSU baccalaureate degree in a specified discipline. California Community College students should work closely with their advisers when planning their academic program in preparation for transfer to the CSU. This information does not represent any guarantee with regard to admission nor does it include or replace CSU campus admissions impaction criteria (see These curricular guidelines are subject to change. CSU Statewide Pattern (1) Complete lower-division general education requirements. Obtain a certification of completion of GE-Breadth or IGETC by the California Community College before transferring to a CSU campus. While completing general education, follow the course pattern stated below. (2) Complete the graduation requirements in United States History, Constitution and American Ideals. 1 These are typically completed with one course each in American government and American history, or a sequence of courses that integrate the history and government topics. Students completing GE-Breadth should ordinarily use these courses to satisfy 6 units of Area D. (3) Complete the following: Two courses in Intermediate [CAN SPAN SEQ B] These courses should not be taken as part of GE. Total Semester Units Required for Statewide LDTP Pattern 39 units for GE-Breadth Minimum grades of C are required in courses used to meet GE-Breadth Areas A and B4. or 37 units for IGETC Minimum grade of C is required in each course used for IGETC. 0 units required for GE-Breadth 6 units for IGETC IGETC does not permit double counting of courses to meet IGETC and U.S. History, Constitution and American Ideals requirements. 8 units Minimum grades of C are required in these courses. 47 Units (GE-Breadth) 51 Units (IGETC) 1 CCC courses that fulfill general education and graduation requirements in United States History, Constitution and American Ideals are listed at

3 CSU Dominguez Hills In addition to the statewide pattern, the following is the CSU Dominguez Hills campus-specific pattern: (1) If not taken as part of the statewide pattern (including general education and/or major preparation requirements), complete: A course that articulates with [CAN SPAN 2, CSUDH SPA 110], Beginning I - Basic instruction in. Training in speaking, listening, reading, and writing for students who have had no previous work in. and A course that articulates with [CAN SPAN 4, CSUDH SPA 111], Beginning II A continuation of 110. Basic instruction in. Training in speaking, listening, reading, and writing for students who have had no previous work in. and A course that articulates with [CAN SPAN 8, CSUDH SPA 115], Intensive Beginning - An accelerated course in beginning ; emphasis on speaking and listening comprehension. Development of elementary reading and writing skills. Active participation and engagement. and A course that articulates with [CAN SPAN SEQ A, CSUDH SPA 230], Conversation - Highly individualized self-paced course taught with the Foreign Service Institute tapes and materials. Particularly suited for teachers and teacher trainees. (2) Complete additional coursework to bring total to 60 transferable Total Semester Units Required for CSU Dominguez Hills 1-13 unit CSU East Bay In addition to the statewide pattern, the following is the CSU East Bay campus-specific pattern: Complete additional coursework to bring total to 60 transferable Total Semester Units Required for CSU East Bay

5 CSU Long Beach In addition to the statewide pattern, the following is the CSU Long Beach campus-specific pattern: Complete electives to bring total to 60 Total Semester Units Required for CSU Long Beach CSU Los Angeles In addition to the statewide pattern, the following is the CSU Los Angeles campus-specific pattern: (1) If not taken as part of the statewide pattern (including general education and/or major preparation requirements), complete: A course that articulates with a second semester of expository writing that emphasizes exposition, research, and critical thinking, typically called Writing and Critical Thinking (as opposed to Literature and Composition ) A course that articulates with [CAN SPAN SEQ B], Complete coursework to prepare for Intermediate or if minimum proficiency already achieved, free electives or continued advanced coursework in to bring total to 60 transferable Total Semester Units Required for CSU Los Angeles 3 units 10 units California Maritime Academy This campus does not have a major, concentration, or option in.

7 CSU Sacramento In addition to the statewide pattern, the following is the CSU Sacramento campus-specific pattern: (1) Complete coursework to prepare for Intermediate [CAN SPAN SEQ B] or if minimum proficiency already achieved, fifth and sixth semester lower-division classes: A course that articulates with Intermediate Level Conversation and A course that articulates with Introduction to Composition and Grammar Review (2) Complete additional coursework to bring total to 60 transferable Total Semester Units Required for CSU Sacramento 0-0- CSU San Bernardino In addition to the statewide pattern, the following is the CSU San Bernardino campus-specific pattern: Complete coursework to prepare for Intermediate [CAN SPAN continued advanced coursework in to bring total to 60 Total Semester Units Required for CSU San Bernardino San Diego State University In addition to the statewide pattern, the following is the San Diego State University campus-specific pattern: (1) If not taken as part of the statewide pattern (including general education and/or major preparation requirements), complete: A course that articulates with [CAN SPAN SEQ B], coursework to prepare for Intermediate or if minimum proficiency is already achieved, A course that articulates with [SDSU SPAN 211], Intermediate Conversation and Reading -Emphasis on oral communication and reading comprehension through intermediate level cultural materials. IMPACTION CRITERIA This major is impacted at SDSU. Students must meet the following criteria: a.) Complete the following courses with a grade of C or higher. These courses cannot be taken for credit/no credit (Cr/NC). A course that articulates with [SDSU SPAN 202, CAN SPAN SEQ B], Intermediate - Review of selected grammatical features supported by study of cultural materials. Emphasis on written and spoken language. Have a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher. Cognition of language structures through reading, writing, and speaking. or A course that articulates with [CSUST SPAN 2020], Intermediate II (for non-native speakers) A continuation of Second-year, with emphasis on oral proficiency. Includes review of language structure patterns and reading assignments. Consideration of Hispanic cultures. Note: CSU Stanislaus requires prospective majors to attain facility at the level of fourth semester before admitting them to upper-division courses in the major.
