1 LIST OF IN-DEMAND/HIGHER IN-DEMAND JOBS for the San Diego ETPL BACKGROUND The California Employment Development Department (EDD) mandates the following: The ETPL includes locally approved training programs that lead to self-sustainable careers in the local/regional economy, as supported by current labor market information identifying industry sectors and occupational clusters that are high-growth, high-demand, projecting skills shortages, and/or vital to the regional economy. The following analysis identifies the occupations for San Diego County that meet these criteria. ANALYSIS SDWP's Research Department analyzed employment data from Economic Modeling Specialists, International to provide a list of in-demand and higher in-demand jobs. All analysis was based on ten-year projections, -. Three criteria were used in this determination: wages, projected growth rates and projected number of annual job openings. Wages The 2018 self-sufficiency wage for San Diego County is $15.99/hr. 1 Projected Growth & Growth and annual openings were plotted against percentiles for all occupations in San Diego County to determine whether there existed a natural inflection point to differentiate in-demand and higher in-demand jobs. The median (50 th percentile) for growth was 10%; the median for annual openings was 70. A natural inflection point was observed at the 90 th percentile for both growth (27%) and annual openings (666). Based on this analysis, SDWP recommends defining in-demand and higher in-demand as follows: In-demand: Occupations that have at least an 10% growth rate and 70+ annual job openings Median employment wage must be at least $15.99/hr Higher in-demand: Must meet the criteria of an in-demand job Median employment wage must be at least $15.99/hr AND EITHER: Occupations that have a projected growth rate of 27% or higher OR Occupations that are projected to have 666+ annual openings 1 The Self-Sufficiency Standard for California, University of Washington Center for Women s Welfare,
