Term time only We are looking for a morning, afternoon and midday supervisor who will assist in securing the safety and welfare of students before school and during the midday break. The successful candidate will ideally have had experience of working within a secondary school environment and will be used to dealing with teenage students in a firm, fair and friendly manner. The school was established in 1841 by Marie Madeleine d Houet, foundress of the Faithful Companions of Jesus (FCJ) an international society of Catholic sisters working in many parts of the world. In the UK there are five FCJ schools; each with its own identity but bound together by the tenets of the FCJ Philosophy of Education based on Ignatian principles. Vision and innovation form our central pillar of learning. We embedded Mandarin in our curriculum in 2008 resulting in Confucius Classroom accreditation and provision of Mandarin teaching to support primary schools. The forward looking MFL department also teaches Spanish, French and Italian. Our students are provided with a broad and balanced curriculum which recognises the importance of creativity and the arts as well as making sure that maths and science are taught by well qualified specialist teachers. As an oversubscribed non-selective girls school at KS3 and KS4 we have a wide catchment area with girls coming from 70 primary schools across west London. There are 52 ethnic groups represented in the school and 67 languages other than English. Our students are supported by an outstanding pastoral team led by two of our Assistant Headteachers who work with Heads of Year, Pastoral Managers and School Counsellors to provide a safe environment for all to flourish. Gumley s academic results reflect our tradition of achievement, the students high levels of ambition, parental support, as well as the challenging teaching and dedication of the staff. The vast majority of our students are accepted at their first choice university including Oxbridge, reading a wide variety of subjects. Reports to: School Business Leader Job Summary: As part of a team, assisting in securing the safety and welfare of students before school and during the midday break. This will involve effective supervision of students in and about the premises of the school in accordance with the general instructions of the Headteacher. Principal Accountabilities: 1. Supervision of the students in the cafeteria. 2. Supervision of students in the school buildings and around the school grounds. Job Content: Main duties and responsibilities are indicated here. Other duties of an appropriate level and nature will also be required. 1. Supervision of students in the cafeteria, including: - Organising the queue and entrance of students into the cafeteria and ensuring good behaviour and a calm atmosphere. - Dealing with any unacceptable behaviour that may occur by intervening or calling for assistance, reporting incidents to the appropriate person according to the severity of the incident. - Encouraging social skills and good table manners, ensuring safety with eating implements. Ensuring that students tidy/clear up in a satisfactory manner. - Assist in cleaning up spillages when food is spilt or dropped where such spillages are hazardous to students/staff. - Sharing responsibility with other Midday Supervisors and/or teachers for the maintenance of order and discipline in the cafeteria. - Ensuring that any students who suffer accident or injury are dealt with appropriately in accordance with the school s agreed procedures. 2. Supervision of students in the grounds and other school premises, including: - Supervision of the school entrance during lunch break to ensure students do not leave the grounds without permission/authorisation. Check on any strangers who may enter school premises in accordance with school guidelines and report to the appropriate person. - Supervision of student activities and behaviour, ensuring their safety and well-being, providing - Reporting any poor behaviour or breaking of the school rules by students to the member of staff on duty, or to Student Services.

4 - Supervision of students inside school premises when they are not allowed outside in inclement weather. - Ensuring that students return to lessons promptly at the end of the lunch period. Special Conditions of Service: Because of the nature of the post, candidates are not entitled to withhold information regarding convictions by virtue of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exemptions) Order 1975 as amended. Candidates are required to give details of any convictions on their application form and are expected to disclose such information at interview. Experience of supervising students in a school environment. Knowledge Knowledge of basic Health and Safety and First Aid or a willingness to be trained. A knowledge and understanding of the welfare and social needs of students during the midday break. Skills and Abilities Effective communication skills; Ability to work effectively as part of a team and to apply given instructions; Ability to react calmly and quickly in an emergency; Ability to form good relationships with young people and understand the behaviour exhibited by adolescents in their formative years.
