LBS Centre for Science and Technology LBS Centre for Science and Technology (LBSCS &T) Thiruvananthapuram, the premier institute of computer training and consultancy, registered under the Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act XII of 1955 was established by Government of Kerala in The Centre was started by the Government of Kerala as an Autonomous body with the main objective that the Centre would act as a link between the industries and technical institutions so as to benefit society through their mutual interactions. The Centre is administered by a Governing Body and an Executive Committee. The Chief Minister, Government of Kerala is the Chairman of the Governing Body and the Minister for Education is the Vice-Chairman. The Principal Secretary for Higher Education is the Chairman of the Executive Committee and the Director of Technical Education is the Vice-Chairman of Executive Committee. There are two Self financing Engineering colleges under LBS Centre viz. LBS College of Engineering, Kasaragod and LBS Institute of Technology for Women, Poojappura, Thiruvananthapuram. 2. LBS Institute of Technology for Women(LBSITW) LBS Institute of Technology for Women is the second Engineering College managed by LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram started functioning in This is the first Engineering college for women in the state of Kerala and only Women Engineering college under Government Sector in the state. 3. Programs offered. a. B. Tech Programs LBSITW offers four year B. Tech Programs in the following disciplines. Sl. Hostel Facility A ladies Hostel with built up area of 50,000 Sq. Feet is available inside the campus. All the needy students will be provided hostel. 24 hours power backup for the hostel. 6.TEQIP Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) was envisaged as a long-term program of about years duration to be implemented in 2-3 phases for transformation of the Technical Education System with the World Bank assistance. LBSITW is a recipient of TEQIP funds from 2012 onwards. The academic and infrastructural facilities are enhanced and strengthened by the assistance from TEQIP - II. 3

4 7.Career Guidance and Placement Unit (CGPU) CGPU is formed to bring the students and industrial fraternity on a common platform, thereby enhancing the scope for gainful employment of students. The unit is headed by a senior faculty member with representation from both students and staff. The CGPU helps in arranging industrial trainings, group discussions, entrepreneurship training etc. More than 80% of outgoing students are getting placement in reputed National and Multi National Companies. 8.Location The Institute is situated in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram city at poojappura, which is 4kms from Trivandrum Central Railway Station and KSTRC Bus Station. The distance to Trivandrum International Airport is 8 kms and to Trivandrum Domestic Airport is 9 Kms. 9.Admission Procedure a. No. of seats under NRI quota. 5% of the total intake in each branch is reserved as NRI quota. b. Eligibility Eligibility: Academic Eligibility is as per the prospectus issued by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, Government of Kerala for admission to the professional Degree Course, (Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala or Examinations recognized as equivalent thereto, with 45% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together are eligible for admission)the eligibility for NRI seats is as per the Section 2(0) of Kerala Professional Colleges or Institutions Act XIX of 2006 which is as follows: (0) Non-Resident Indian seats means seats reserved for children or wards or dependants of Non-Resident Indians to whom admission is given by the management in a fair, transparent and non-exploitive manner on the basis of fees as may be prescribed. c. Age Applicant should complete 17 years of age as on No relaxation in the minimum age will be allowed. There is no upper age limit. d. Selection The selection of candidates will be based on the rank list prepared for the purpose observing the following criteria. 4

5 i. Percentage of total marks obtained for the optional subjects of XII (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics). ii. If there is a tie, the percentage of marks for Mathematics will be counted. iii. If there is still a tie, Percentage of Marks for Physics, Chemistry & total marks in the qualifying examination will be counted in sequences. In case candidate has not studied Chemistry, marks obtained in Computer Science shall be considered. In case candidate has not studied Chemistry and Computer Science, marks obtained in Biotechnology shall be considered and in case candidate has not studied Chemistry, Computer Science and Biotechnology, marks obtained in Biology shall be considered. e. Fees and Refundable Deposit i. Fee and refundable deposit are as per government decision for Govt. self financing engineering colleges ii. The candidate selected will be required to remit the annual tuition fee at the time of admission. iii. The admitted student is also required to remit the interest free refundable deposit at the time of admission. iv. The admitted candidate will also be required to remit the university fee, affiliation fee, special fee, establishment charges, PTA fee etc. as per instructions from the head of the Institution at the time of admission. The fee structure is as shown below. Admission fee : Rs.250/- Tuition fee : Rs.1,00,000/- Refundable Deposit : Rs.1,25,000/- Special fee : Rs.1,200/- Caution deposit : Rs.5,000/- Establishment charge : Rs.1,500/- Student Administration fee : Rs.1000/- (University) Examination fee(university) (two semesters) : Rs.3,400/- v The fee and Deposit shall be paid to the college account maintained at SBI Poojappura Branch by using chalan issued from college 5

6 f. Refund of fees and levying liquidated damages in the case of discontinuation. If any student admitted under NRI Quota leaves the institution under any of the following circumstances he/she is liable to compensate as follows (subject to the final decision of the Admission Supervisory Committee of Government of Kerala). (b) Refundable deposit shall be refunded only after four years (a ) Rs.10,000/- of the tuition fee remitted shall be recovered as processing fee and the balance tuition fee will be refunded/ adjusted with clause C. (c) Refundable deposit shall be refund only after four years. (d) Liquidated damages at the rate for management seats in Self financing Engineering colleges mentioned in the prospectus by the CEE shall be recovered. (a) Full course fee for the remaining years shall be recovered. Their TC, original certificates and refundable advance shall be released only after usual period for completion of the course. g. How to apply. Application forms and prospectus can be had from the college office on payment of Rs. 750/- (Rupees Seven Hundred and Fifty only). The application can also be downloaded from the Institute Website ( and should be submitted along with a DD of Rs. 750/- (Rupees Seven Hundred and Fifty only) favoring the Principal, LBS Institute of Technology for Women, Poojappura payable at Thiruvananthapuram. 6

7 The Filled up applications should reach the office of the Principal on or before 02/06/2017 h. Documents to be submitted along with the application. i. True copy of the Nativity Certificate (As per the Prospectus conditions issued by the CEE for admission to Professional courses). ii. True copy of the SSLC/equivalent certificate mentioning the date of birth of the applicant. iii. True copy of the certificate / mark list of qualifying examination. iv. SEBC candidates claiming relaxation of mark for eligibility should submit income certificate and community certificate. v. NRI Certificate: Candidates may produce any one of the following certificates of the sponsor. a. Employment Certificate. b. Relevant pages of the passport containing valid visa details. c. Certificate issued by a Scheduled Bank stating that he/she is a nonresident Indian holding an NRE account other than a Zero balance account. d. Apart from the sponsors declaration, the records submitted under NRI should establish the dependency/relationship as per Section2(o) of Act XIX of vi. NRI Sponsorship in the format attached with the application. vii. DD for Rs. 750/- (Rupees Seven Hundred and Fifty Only) drawn in favour of The Principal, LBSITW, Poojappura payable at Thiruvananthapuram or original cash receipt of application. 1. Rank list of candidates will be published at the college website within five days from the last date of receipt of application. The candidates are requested to attend the interview/counselling accompanied by Parent/guardian and shall produce all the original certificates /documents for verification at the time of interview. 2. Candidate who does not turn up for the interview/counselling as per schedule at the place and time specified will forfeit his/her chance for admission and will not be considered for admission to any future vacancies. 3. The candidates are required to remit the prescribed fees at the time of admission depositing it to the College account maintained in State Bank of India, Poojappura. 4. Applicants who satisfy the eligibility conditions will alone be called for the interview/counselling for allotment, depending upon the number of vacancies. Sending 7

8 an application by itself and or a call for the interview does not confer any right on the applicant for making any claim either for appearance in the interview or for admission. i. The following certificates in original are to be produced at the time of Interview. a. Certificate to prove age. b. Transfer Certificate from the institution last attended. c. Conduct Certificate from the institution last attended. (issued within six months before the date of admission). d. Medical Certificate from a Medical officer not below the Rank of Asst.Surgeon (format is given in this document). e. Agreement in Stamp paper worth Rs.500/- (purchased in the name of the parent) f. Mark List of qualifying examination. g. Pass Certificate of qualifying examination. h. Migration Certificate (CBSE/ISCE). i. Eligibility Certificate from Kerala University (for outside Kerala schemes). j. NRI Sponsorship Certificate and original document to prove NRI status of the Sponsor. The admission to be made under NRI quota in the college will be subject to the direction/ orders issued by Government of Kerala in this regard. 8
