1 73 CRITERION V: STUDENT SUPPORT AND PROGRESSION 5.1 Student Mentoring and Support Does the university have a system for student support and mentoring? If yes, what are its structural and functional characteristics? Yes, University has introduced a system of Mentoring. At the departmental level, every teacher has been entrusted to act as Mentor of a group of students. Usually, a group consists of 10 students. The role of a teacher is to develop rapport with his group. Both academic and nonacademic issues are discussed here. Students may interact with his Mentor teachers usually during off hours collectively or individually. The ethos of this system is to restore the glory of Guru-Shishya Parampara. Such practice is highly beneficial to slow learners or to those who were absent in class due to some unavoidable reasons. Further various grievances are redressed at this platform and suggestions are placed before the Departmental Council for developing better academic atmosphere Apart from classroom interaction, what are the provisions available for academic mentoring? Some provisions of mentoring system are:

Any kind of grievances he / she may be having against any employee / student / faculty. 4. Mentor also acts as counsellor Does the university have any personal enhancement and development schemes such as career counseling, soft skill development, career-pathidentification and orientation to well-being for its students? Give details of such schemes. UGC sponsored Career and Counselling Cell is functioning in the university. The important functions of this cell are to provide soft skill training, career-path identification, and overall counseling of students. This cell is imparting soft skill training like Computer Literacy, Spoken English and personality development. The Counsellors are also invited to do counseling of students who need it Does the university publish its updated prospectus and handbook annually? The Career Conselling Cell of the university provides help and guidance to the students both for identifying jobs opportunity and later in preparing for interviews and Group Discussion. Many of our students participated in national and international events

The Vice Chancellor also invites student s representative to get feedbacks. The grievances are mainly related to the provision of basic amenities, improvement in the facility of hostels,

9 81 examination related problems etc. Most of the grievances are redressed at departmental level and a few remaining problems are redressed at university level Does the university promote a gender-sensitive environment by (i) conducting gender related programmes (ii) establishing a cell and mechanism to deal with issues related to sexual harassment? Give details. Yes, University has promoted a gender-sensitive environment. Through rallies, seminar etc gender discrimination issues are discussed. University has a cell at university as well as departmental level related to sexual harassment. The complaints are entertained by the faculty members and university officials. All precautionary measure has been taken to minimize the probability of sexual harassment Is there an anti-ragging committee? 15 87 Presently, Student Council in the University is not functioning due to change in Acts for conduction of Student Union Election by Govt. of Bihar.
