3 Editorial : Principal's Voice Patna Women's College a premier Institution for Women's Higher Education in Bihar enters the era of new challenges with a vision of excellence and service to society. The College promotes and fosters self sacrifice, tolerance, understanding compassion love and peace. With diverse academic programmes the College becomes a nurturing ground for individuals holistic development. The curricular and extra curricular programmes enhance the overall quality of Campus Culture. Since the premise of science is to serve humanity, to protect, to improve and to preserve life using new findings, is intrinsic to scientific and technological research. Science, Technology and Society are intrinsically linked and characterized by mutual interdependence. Advances in any discipline inevitably lead to social progress and prosperity. Nanoscience is transdisciplinary in nature since it involves Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Cognitive Science, Life Science and in particular genomes and proteomics. Nanotechnology fuses with other recent technologies. This inter depending nature of this field makes it more viable for research in the present century. Progress is possible only with dedication commitment, hard work and with a greater effort to tread the untravelled path. This will bring change and development. To give a new dimension to Physics education and ignite a passion for research, Patna Women's College is organizing a Seminar on 'Applications of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.' Recently the Department of Physics actively involved in nanomaterials research projects under 'College with Potential for Excellence' (CPE) and 'Basic Scientific Research' (BSR) of UGC Scheme. The outcome of this research projects genuinely creates interest in students to pursue their carrier in higher studies and continue their scientific research projects. There is nothing so powerful than an idea. I, therefore, congratulate the dedicated team of the Department of Physics and especially the Prof. Girija Gupta, Head ; Dr. Aprajita Krishna and Dr. Rakesh Kumar Singh for conceiving and executing the idea of this wonderful event. We hope this small step of ours in the field of Nanoscience research will change into a giant leap for researches in Bihar. I sincerely appreciate the efforts of all the members of various committees, Department of Science and Technology and Department of Information Technology, Government of Bihar, Nalanda Open University, Patna who have contributed directly or indirectly towards organizing this mega event. We have received more than 70 research papers in which 30 papers were selected for the presentation both in oral and poster session.
