6 What s in it for Students? LOWER FEES! YES, BUT... In a world where Debt doesn t mean Debt, Cheap isn t necessarily Cheap and Free is certainly never Free. What s in it for Students? A Sense of Adventure! 6

7 What s in it for Students? A Sense of Adventure! Norway was Megan s idea. I would recommend it 110%! It has been a life changing experience so far, and it keeps getting better! Life as an international student is excellent. Whether you get the chance to do it for one semester, of for three years like me, go for it! If anything, you get to make friends from all over the world, which you can go and visit for cheap holidays! Within the first month of arriving here, I d been on fishing trips, hiking trips, wizzing around in a little rib boat on the Saltstraumen, swimming in some of the most beautiful lakes which are a 15 minute walk from the University, and even met the Norwegian Prime Minister. It s been quite something! What s in it for Students? A Second (or Final) Chance Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Physiotherapy ABB quotas in the UK 7

8 What s in it for Universities? Money! Yes, but... Internationalisation Strategies One eye on global rankings QS: 5% on International:Domestic Student Ratio Times Higher Education: 2.5% Recognition by Employers Recognition of foreign degrees in comparison with United Kingdom However I am concerned that UK employers may not be aware of this and will not know how to value an overseas degree - I am expecting that I will have to think carefully about how to present the advantages and quality of my degree. Perhaps more needs to be done to "educate" the big graduate employers to ensure they don't dismiss European grads. 8
