2 INFORMATION BULLETIN Admission to the first year M.C.A. programme for Pondicherry Engineering College and Government quota seats in the Self-Financing Colleges in the Union Territory (UT) Puducherry is centralised and made by the Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC-MCA), Government of Puducherry. Number of Government quota seats in participating Self-Financing Colleges will be announced at the time of counseling after the receipt of necessary orders from Government of Puducherry. Admission to MCA programme is based on the candidates performance in the Common Entrance Test (CET-2012) to be conducted by the CENTAC-MCA. The CET-2012 will be conducted by CENTAC-MCA on Sunday, 29 th July 2012 between a.m. and noon. 1. COLLEGES OFFERING MCA PROGRAMME Government Sponsored College Sl. No. College No. of seats 1. Pondicherry Engineering College, Puducherry 30 Note : i) Admission to the Government Quota Seats in private and unaided colleges, including the minority colleges offering MCA programme, will be as per the law / regulation / order of Government of India or Government of Puducherry on the subject. ii) Subsequent to the publication of admission notification for the academic year , if any new College(s), or change in in-take is / or approved by the Government of Puducherry and other Statutory Bodies for admission during the academic year candidates who appear in CET-2012 and apply for admission to the MCA programme within the time frame given will be considered for admission to those college(s) also. 2. ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION As a pre-requisite to admission to MCA programme, candidates must have appeared in CET However, mere appearance in CET-2012 will not automatically qualify a candidate for admission to MCA programme and the candidate should fulfill the necessary admission requirements prescribed by appropriate authorities Minimum Academic Qualification Bachelor s degree in Computer Applications / Computer Science/Information Technology or Bachelor s degree in Commerce / Corporate Secretary-ship / Economics/ Business Administration with Mathematics / Business Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Applications as one of the subjects (or) Bachelor s Degree in Science with Mathematics/Statistics as one of the subjects with a minimum of 50% marks (45% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) Candidates who have passed qualifying examinations and who are awaiting results can apply. However, all candidates shall have to produce proof of passing the examination for selection at the time of counseling Age Limit There is no age limit prescribed for admission to MCA programme Nationality A Candidate seeking admission through CENTAC-MCA should be an Indian National. However, French Nationals residing in the Puducherry UT and covered by the terms of the Treaty of Cession shall be treated on par with Indian Nationals for the purpose of admission Reservation Reservation will be followed as per Government of UT of Puducherry orders in force from time to time. 1

3 2.5. Puducherry UT Candidates Candidates who are residents of UT of Puducherry are eligible for admission to MCA programme under Puducherry quota (23 seats) in Pondicherry Engineering College. A candidate is considered to be of Puducherry Resident (Puducherry UT Candidate) provided he / she is an Indian national and satisfies at least one of the following criteria. 1. Those candidates or whose parents have been residing continuously in the UT of Puducherry at least for 5 years immediately preceding the date of application. 2. Those who have passed the Degree examination and for that purpose had undergone academic studies continuously for 5 successive classes immediately preceding the qualifying examination (including the year of the qualifying examination) in recognised educational institution(s) located in UT of Puducherry and having their residence in UT of Puducherry for 5 years continuously during that period. 3. Children of Central Government servants / Defence Personnel / Central Paramilitary Forces / Employees of Public Sector Undertakings wholly or substantially run either by the Central Government or by the UT of Puducherry Government, posted and serving in the UT of Puducherry for at least a minimum period of one year prior to the stipulated last date of submission of application for the course. 4. Children of natives of the UT of Puducherry who have declared any place in the Puducherry UT as their home town and so certified by their respective Heads of Office. (Note : Nativity certificate in the prescribed format has to be enclosed along with the admission application for the course). 5. Children of Defence Personnel who were killed or disabled in action and children of Central Government Servants / UT of Puducherry Government Servants / Defence Personnel / Employees of Public Sector undertakings as referred in category (3) who have died while in service in UT of Puducherry 6. French Nationals residing in UT of Puducherry and covered by the terms of the Treaty of Cession shall be treated on par with the candidates who produce the prescribed residence certificate for the UT of Puducherry. However such French Nationals will not be required to produce residence certificate, instead they should produce a certificate of registration issued for this purpose from the French Consulate at Puducherry. Note: Children of these French Nationals shall not be considered for admission under the quota of non-residents Other State Candidates Candidates from other states / UTs can seek admission only in Pondicherry Engineering College against Other States / UTs Quota (7 seats) and shall be made through merit list of Other States / UTs candidates in CET The allocation seats for Other States / UTs candidates in Pondicherry Engineering College is shown below: No. of Seats allocated for other states General Category SC ST COMMON ENTRANCE TEST (CET-2012) The CET-2012 will be conducted in Pondicherry Engineering College only as per the following schedule Pattern of CET-2012 Test Date Time CET-2012 Sunday, a.m. to noon The CET-2012 consists of 90 questions of objective type of two hours duration covering the following topics. Topic Number of Questions Mathematics (Ancillary level) 20 Analytical Ability 20 Logical Reasoning 15 Comprehensive verbal ability 15 General awareness in Computer Science 20 Total 90 Note : 1. (i) Each correct answer carries 4 marks (ii) Incorrect answer and multiple answer will have -1 (one negative) mark. 2. The candidates have to shade the answers in the coding sheets which will be supplied at the time of test along with question booklet. Candidates have to bring their own eraser, HB Pencil and Ball Pen. 2

4 3.2. Hall Tickets Shortly after the receipt of the CET-2012 application that is complete in all respects, the Hall Ticket for CET-2012 along with Register Number will be dispatched to the candidates. The Hall Ticket must be produced at the time of the Entrance Test for verification. No candidate shall be permitted to write the Entrance Test without the valid Hall Ticket. The CET-2012 Hall Ticket must be preserved even after the Entrance Test and it should be presented at the time of counselling for admission Duplicate Hall Ticket If CET-2012 Hall Ticket is not received by 26 th July 2012, the candidate should contact the CET-2012 Enquiry Office located in Pondicherry Engineering College. When the candidates come for duplicate Hall Ticket, they should produce two passport size photographs and the proof of having applied for CET Enquiry Office Office of the Department of CSE Pondicherry Engineering College, Puducherry. Tel. : to , Ext. 452 Contact Date(s) If the Hall Ticket received is incomplete in any respect, e.g. without register number, centre name, etc., the candidates are advised to contact the Enquiry Office with the faulty Hall Ticket on the dates as mentioned above for clarification and necessary correction. All photographs used for identification purpose until the admission of the candidate is over, shall be the prints from the same negative. It is advised that sufficient number of copies of the photograph may be kept in reserve to meet any situation like the one described above that may arise any time in future Results of CET-2012 The results of CET-2012 are expected to be declared by the Convenor, CET-2012 within a week after the conduct of the test. The results will be displayed on the notice board of office of the CENTAC-MCA, Pondicherry Engineering College. The results will also be made available at Pondicherry Engineering College web site ( 4. APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR COMMON ENTRANCE TEST AND ADMISSION: Application forms and Information Brochure can be obtained from Reception Counter, Pondicherry Engineering College, Puducherry , in person on all working days on or after 29 th June 2012 on payment of Rs. 1030/- [for SC / ST candidates Rs. 530/-]. Application forms can also be obtained by post by sending a request to The Convenor, CENTAC-MCA, Pondicherry Engineering College, Puducherry , along with two self-addressed slips (neatly typed or hand written) and a crossed demand draft for Rs.1065/-(Rs.1000/- towards the cost of application and Rs.65/- for postage) [for SC / ST Candidates Rs.565/-. (Rs.500/- towards the cost of application and Rs.65/- for postage)], drawn in favour of The Convenor, CENTAC-MCA payable at Puducherry. Payment by cheques, postal orders and money orders will not be accepted. Filled-in Application forms along with all necessary enclosures should be sent in the prescribed envelope to 'The Convenor, Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC-MCA), Pondicherry Engineering College, Puducherry , so as to reach latest by Monday 16 th July 2012 before 5.00 p.m. Details are also available in the web site Application forms can also be downloaded and submitted along with crossed Demand Draft for Rs.1000/- [Rs.500/- for SC/ST candidates] drawn in favour of the Convenor, CENTAC-MCA payable at Puducherry. The certificates of Nationality, caste and residence need to be obtained from the respective authorities in the formats prescribed by the Revenue Department. Only attested copy of the certificates need to be enclosed with the application form. At the time of the counselling all the original certificates need to be produced. Applications which are incomplete, defective or received after the due date & time shall summarily be rejected and no correspondence shall be entertained in this regard. Candidates are advised to carefully go through the Check List of the Application Form for admission before mailing the same to the Convenor, CENTAC-MCA. 5. DETAILS OF RESERVATION AND SPECIAL ALLOCATION 5.1. For UT of Puducherry Candidates in Government Sponsored Colleges Reservation for Puducherry UT candidates belonging to different categories for admission to MCA programme offered by Government Sponsored Colleges are given below. Reservation / Special Allocation Category % of Reservation Scheduled Caste (SC) Applicable for the Constitution (Puducherry) Scheduled Castes Order, 1964* candidates only. 16 Backward Classes (MBC 18%, OBC- 11%, EBC-2%, BCM-2%, BT-1%) 34 Children / Grand Children of Freedom Fighter (FF) * 4 Physically Handicapped (PH) * 3 Ex-Servicemen / Widows of Ex-Servicemen / Wards of Ex-Servicemen, Defence Personnel, Para - military Force (DP) * Candidates who are excellent in Sports (SP) * 1 * Horizontal Reservation - Seats reserved / allocated under these categories will become operational only if the minimum seats earmarked for each of these categories are not filled up under normal process of selection in any reservation category. If the seats shown against any reserved category remain vacant for want of eligible candidates; those seats will be allotted to the candidates under General Category during the last phase of counselling. 3 3

5 Scheduled Caste Candidates (SC) Only Origin SC candidates will be considered under this category. They should enclose recent SC certificate issued by an Officer of the Revenue Department not below the rank of Deputy Tahsildar Backward Class Candidates (BC) Candidates claiming admission under this category should enclose the recent MBC / OBC/EBC/BM/BT certificate issued by an Officer of the Revenue Department not below the rank of Deputy Tahsildar Freedom Fighter Category (FF) Candidates claiming admission under this category should be Children / Grand Children of Freedom Fighter and they should enclose the necessary certificate issued by the Officer-in-charge of the Freedom Fighter Cell, Puducherry Physically Handicapped Category (PH) Candidates claiming admission under this category should enclose the necessary certificate issued by the Dept. of Social Welfare, Govt. of Puducherry or Medical Superintendent of Govt. Hospitals of Puducherry UT Defence Personnel Category (DP) Ex-Servicemen / Widows of Ex-Servicemen / Wards of Ex-Servicemen, Defence Personnel, Para-military Force come under this category. Candidates claiming admission under this category should enclose necessary certificate issued by the Competent Authority Sports Personnel Category (SP) Candidates claiming admission under this category should have participated in State / National / International level sports and games and to that effect should enclose the necessary certificates, countersigned by the Inspector of Physical Education, Government of Puducherry. To ensure that only Sports persons of excellent caliber and those who have showed consistency in sports activities get benefited under the Sports Quota seats, the selection of candidates under Sports Quota will be considered in the order of priorities as given below. Priority Standings Order 1. Medal Winners / Rank Holders in International events 2. Participants in International events 3. National Level Medal Winners: a) Senior Level Medal Winners in National events b) Junior Level Medal Winners in National events c) Sub-Junior Level Medal Winners in National events 4. State Level (Inter Schools) Medal Winners in Sports organized by the Education Department 5. Participants in National and State Level Sports Selection Guidelines for Sports Quota: 1. Participation in National / State Level Sports shall be accompanied by evidence showing that they have been consistently taking active part in Sports. 2. For those who have taken part in more than one discipline of Sports, consideration will be given only to the highest priority standing attained as given above. 3. Only those who have taken part in the Sports events organized by Government and Federations recognized by the Sports Authority of India will be considered. 4. In case of a tie, consideration will be given to consistent / regular participation. 5. Any further tie will be decided by taking into account the marks obtained in the Qualifying Examination. 6. The CENTAC-MCA is the final authority to settle all disputes in selection under Sports Quota. SELECTION PROCEDURE FOR ADMISSION The selection of candidates for admission to MCA programme will be based on the Merit List in CET 2012 prepared by CENTAC- MCA Ranking of Candidates Ranking of the candidates will be done based on the merit marks (rounded off to two decimal places) in CET 2012 obtained by them out of Procedure for Breaking Tie in Merit Marks During the selection process if a tie in merit marks occurs, the aggregate percentage of marks in Part III of the qualifying examination shall be the basis for merit Display of Merit List The Merit list will be displayed on the notice board of the office of CENTAC-MCA, Pondicherry Engineering College and the same will also be made available in the Pondicherry Engineering College website ( No separate announcement will be made in the newspapers. 7. COUNSELLING FOR ADMISSION The admission is based on the merit, category of the candidates, and availability of vacancies at the time of counselling. All admissions made by CENTAC-MCA are provisional and subject to the approval of Pondicherry University. The candidates who have been offered admission to a particular college should report to the college on or before the due date to be mentioned by the CENTAC-MCA in the provisional admission order, failing which they will forfeit the right of admission. At any time if the respective college authorities found that admission has been offered based on false, incorrect, relevant facts suppressed with regard to educational qualification or quota, the admission shall be liable to be cancelled and the candidates shall have no cause for grievance Venue Counselling for MCA programme will be conducted at the Office of the CENTAC-MCA, Pondicherry Engineering College, Pillaichavady, Puducherry Date and Time Candidates shall be called for counselling as per their merits. Candidates to be called for counselling shall be intimated through call letters or a public notification in newspapers and in the Pondicherry Engineering College web site ( No change of date / time of counselling is allowed. CENTAC-MCA will not be responsible for postal delay, if any, and non-delivery of counselling intimation whatever reason thereto. Candidates who do not attend the counselling in the specified date and time have to forego the claim for admission. However, due to unforeseen circumstances and unavoidable reasons, if a candidate is unable to attend the counselling on the indicated date and time, he / she can attend on a subsequent date and time during the counselling period with prior permission of The Convenor, CENTAC-MCA. But, the candidate can only opt for the seat available at that time and cannot claim any seat as per his / her original rank. In any case, counselling will not be done in the absence of candidates. Unfilled seats and vacancies arising out of the dropouts of already admitted candidates will be filled up during the subsequent counsellings. Details of such vacancies will be notified on the notice board and will also be made available in the Pondicherry Engineering College web site ( updated periodically. Individual intimation will not be sent to candidates for the Counselling for seats arising due to vacancies due to the reasons mentioned above. No communication shall be sent to candidates who are not eligible for counselling and no further correspondence in this regard shall be entertained Verification of Original Certificates Candidates called for counselling shall be required to submit all the documents in original for verification at the time of counselling. Candidates who fail to produce the required documents in original, shall not be counselled. However, if a candidate has deposited the original certificates to an institution where he / she has already been admitted, a letter to that effect issued by the Head of the institution should be produced. Only in that case, attested / true copy of certificates will be accepted for verification. The original documents submitted by the candidates to be admitted, shall be returned only after verifying with the respective Universities and hence the candidates are advised to take enough number of photocopies of the documents before submitting the originals for verification during counselling Counselling Fees A counselling fee of Rs.1100/- (Rs.550/- for SC/ST) will be collected from each candidate. Candidates will forfeit the counselling fee of Rs.1100/- (Rs.550/- for SC/ST candidates) only on selection of seat in the first counselling. However, in subsequent counselling(s) a non-refundable counselling fee of Rs.800/- (for SC/ST candidates Rs.400/-) shall be collected irrespective of selection of seat. The counselling fee should be in the form of Demand Draft drawn in favour of The Convenor, CENTAC-PG, PAYABLE at Puducherry. Payment by cheques, postal orders, money orders and Cash will not be accepted. No candidate will be allowed to attend the counselling without the prescribed counselling fee. 5
