2 introduction The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is the most important PG entrance test in the country for the post graduate courses in engineering. Almost all the states run universities and colleges accept the GATE scores. In addition to GATE, some states conduct their own entrance exams for the admissions to the M.Tech/ M.E courses. These entrance exams are for those students who have not appeared for GATE or have not obtained the qualifying marks in GATE. The preference in admissions in these states is also for the GATE qualified students but the vacancies after the GATE admissions are for the students who have qualified in these entrance exams. Careers360 takes a look at the various entrance exams held by some of the states in the country for the admissions to the PG engineering courses. Candidates may note that admissions to the PG courses in other states apart from the ones mentioned in this book are through GATE. The admission details for such states are not dealt in this book. 5 AP PGECET - Candidates wishing to avail admissions to the M.Tech courses in Andhra Pradesh must appear for the Entrance Exam and qualify in the same. It may be noted that GATE qualified candidates will be given preference during seat allotment and will have to apply separately. Exam Name: Andhra Pradesh Post Graduate Engineering Common Entrance Test Commonly called as: AP PGECET Conducting Institute: Osmania University About AP PGECET : Admissions to the M.Tech/ M.E programmes in Andhra Pradesh is through the Andhra Pradesh Post Graduate Engineering Common Entrance Test (AP PGECET) which is a State Level Common Entrance Test. Note: GATE qualified candidates are given preference over the AP PGECET qualified candidates during seat allotment and admissions. 5

F They must be residents of Andhra Pradesh and must meet the local/ non-local status requirements as laid down in the regulations of admission. F They must have scored a minimum of 50% marks (45% in case candidate belonging to reserved category) in B.E./B. Tech./AMIE in the respective disciplines F Note: GATE Qualified candidates will have to apply separately as they are eligible for direct admissions AP PGECET Exam Pattern: F The Duration of the exam is 2 hours F Total No of Questions asked in the AP PGECET will be 120 F All questions will be Objective type with multiple choice answers F One mark will be awarded for each correct answer F The AP PGECET Cutoff for qualifying is 25% marks. 7 AP PGECET 2015 Counseling Process: F Candidates who qualify in GATE/ AP PGECET 2015 first attend the Document verification for the AP PGECET 2015 Counselling. 8 Gujarat PGCET Candidates wishing to aply to the M.Tech/M.E courses in Gujarat have to appear for the Gujarat PGCET exam. GATE qualified candidates are exempt from the exam Exam Name: Gujarat Post Graduate Common Entrance Test. Commonly called as: Gujarat PGCET Type: PG Category: State Level Conducting Institute: Admission Committee for Professional Courses, Gujarat About Gujarat PGCET: Candidates must appear for the Gujarat PGCET. The exam is conducted by the Admission Committee for Professional 8

9 Courses (ACPC) for the M.Tech/ M.E seats in government, Grant-in aid and self financed institutes in the state of Gujarat. Preference will be given to GATE qualified applicants. Note: GATE qualified candidates can apply and do not have to appear for the Gujarat PGCET exam Gujarat PGCET Eligibility Criteria: F Candidates must have passed B.E/B.Tech in their respective disciplines with a minimum of 50% in aggregate (45% for SC/ST/SEBC candidates) F Candidates who have qualified in GATE must apply online and need not appear for the Entrance exam. F Candidates must have passed their Class 12 and qualifying exam in the state of Gujarat F Note: 5% of the seats are for students from outside Gujarat. F After the mock allotment is announced, candidates can edit, modify their choices F Candidates must log in to check their seat allotment and have to pay an admissions fee of Rs 10,000 online or through PNB Bank challan to be downloaded. F Candidates must report for document verification with the originals of all the specified documents, and one set of self attested copies of the same along with the fee payment receipt for admission at the help centers to receive the provisional admission letter. 11 Karnataka PGCET - Admissions to the M.Tech/ M.E courses in Karnataka will be through the Karnataka PGCET. Candidates must appear for the Karnataka PGCET after meeting the prescribed eligibility criteria. Candidates must note that they need not appear for the Karnataka PGCET if they have valid GATE scores. They must apply for the admissions though. Exam Name: Karnataka Post Graduate Common Entrance Test Commonly called as: Karnataka PGCET Conducting Institute: Karnataka Examinations Authority About Karnataka PGCET: The Karnataka PGCET is conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority for admission to the first year / first semester MBA/MCA/M.E./M.Tech/M.BA (Infrastructure Management) courses in the State of Karnataka. 11

12 Karnataka PGCET Eligibility Criteria F A candidate must have passed B.Tech/B.E or equivalent examination with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate (45% in case of SC, ST and Category-I candidates) F Candidates must have studied for a minimum seven years from Class I to the qualifying exam. F They must meet the domicile requirements as specified by the authorities F Note: Candidates with valid GATE scores need not appear for Karnataka PGCET and will be given preference over the others. Karnataka PGCET Exam Pattern: The total No of Questions is 75 as follows: F Part 1: 50 questions of 1 mark each F Part 2: 25 questions of 2 marks each Total Marks= 100 The Duration of the exam is 120 minutes. 14 OJEE PG 2015 Admissions to the Post Graduate courses in Odisha will be through the OJEE PG 2015 test conducted by the Odisha JEE Board. The online applications for the OJEE PG 2015 will be available from January 15, Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria as specified below can appear for the Odisha PG 2015 to avail admissions to the M.Tech courses in the state of Odisha. 50% of the total intake of the seats after NRI quota will be for GATE qualified candidates who need to apply directly during counselling Exam Name: Odisha Joint Entrance Examination PG Commonly called as: OJEE PGAT now known as OJEE PG Conducting Institute: Odisha Joint Entrance Examination Board About OJEE PG: Odisha Joint Entrance Examination Board conducts the Post Graduate Admission Test (PGAT) for admission to First Year Masters Degree Programmes in Engineering / Technology, Pharmacy and Architecture. GATE Qualified candidates must apply for counselling and are exempt from the exam. OJEE PG Eligibility Criteria: F Candidates must have passed a Bachelor s / Master s Degree of examination in the relevant field from any University of Odisha or equivalent recognized University as defined by UGC/AICTE. F The candidate should have obtained at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST category) in the qualifying examination. OJEE PG Paper Pattern: Questions will be in the branch/ discipline opted for. 19 WBUT PGET Admissions to the M.Tech courses in West Bengal are through the WBUT PGET exam. Conducted by the West Bengal University of Technology, the WBUT PGET is generally held in June. Generally there are two rounds of counselling that are held for candidates who qualify and wish for the West Bengal M.Tech admissions. Exam Name: West Bengal University of Technology Post Graduate Entrance Examination. Commonly called as: WBUT PGET Type: PG Category: State Level Conducting Institute: West Bengal University of Technology About WBUT PGET: All Candidates must appear for the WBUT PGET. The exam is conducted by the West Bengal University of Technology for the M.Tech seats in the state of West Bengal.
