2 About St Agnes College (Auton.), Mangalore: St Agnes College, affiliated to Mangalore University, acquired academic autonomy in 2007 and has consistently proved itself to be a standard bearer of repute in the field of higher education. The institution was the first college in Mangalore University to be accredited by the NAAC and was awarded a Five Star status. In subsequent re-accreditations in 2005 and 2012 the institution received an A grade. In its fourth and most recent accreditation the College was awarded an A+ with a CGPA of 3.65/4. It has also been declared a 'College of Excellence' by the UGC and awarded Star College status by the DBT, New Delhi. The PG Department of English (Estd. 2008): The department is headed by Dr Geralyn Pinto and equipped with well-qualified and dynamic teaching staff. The Department offers a contemporarily relevant syllabus and provides its students with a well-rounded, exciting and fulfilling academic experience. The Department is very pleased to say that well-nigh all its students have successfully earned their M.A. Degree in English and are gainfully employed. About the Seminar: The seminar focuses not only on the centrality of contemporary critical theories to a study of literature and language, but also aims to uncover what theories and critical tools might be available to us, in the future, to enable us to make sense of an increasingly divided world, fragmented identities, conflicting ideologies and confused loyalties, a fragile ecosystem and possible nuclear flashpoints. We hope, during the course of the seminar, to explore existing and generate new links between literature and historical, cultural, political, social, and psychological forces; to focus on what brings and holds us together rather than on what drives us apart; to outline initiatives that can be taken to safeguard the vulnerable Earth; to sensitize ourselves to the rights and needs of sexual minorities, and celebrate fluidity and diversity

3 Resource Persons Janet Montefiore, Professor Emerita, University of Kent Prof Janet Montefiore was born in Cambridge, 1948, and was educated at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford University. She is Professor Emerita of the University of Kent, where she taught English Literature and Women's Studies and was Director of the Centre of Gender Sexuality and Writing. She is the author of Feminism and Poetry (1987, 2004), Men and Women Writers of the 1930s (1996), Arguments of Heart and Mind: Selected Essays (2002), Rudyard Kipling (2007) In Time's Eye: Essays on Rudyard Kipling (Ed., 2013) and most recently a memoir in 50 sonnets Shaping Spirits (2016). She was co-director with Professor Harish Trivedi of the international symposium 'Kipling in India: India in Kipling' held in April 2016 at the Indian Institute for Advanced Studies in Shimla. Joseph Dorairaj, Professor, Gandhigram University, TN Joseph Dorairaj is Professor of English at Gandhigram Rural University, Gandhigram, Tamil Nadu. He was the Vice-Chancellor (Acting) of Gandhigram Rural University from September 2013 to May 2014 and was earlier the Dean of the Faculty of English and Foreign Languages for three years from July 2011 to July Prof Dorairaj has specialized in Theory and authored four books: Myth and Literature (2003); Interventions Essays in Philosophy and Literary Theory (2006) and Philosophical Hermeneutics (2011). His latest book is Critical Essays on Indian English Poets (2015). His book on Research in Language and Literature is in the press

Guidelines for Paper Submission Paper contributors are required to an abstract of the paper in maximum 250 words on or before 20th November, 2017, to (pgagnesenglish@gmail.com). The papers can be authored by one or at the most two persons.the abstract and the paper should be typed in Microsoft Word format with font size '12' 'Times New Roman' font type and '1.5' line spacing. The full paper with maximum of 2500 words should be submitted as per the guidelines in the MLA Handbook- Eighth Edition. The paper should be original, and a declaration will have to be signed to the effect by author/s, if accepted for publication. Publication Accepted papers will be published in the proceedings of the seminar with an ISB Number.

Accommodation Accommodation will be arranged at a nominal rate. The participants have to pay directly to the Management of their place of stay. Registration fee is payable through Demand Draft in favour of: The Principal, St. Agnes College, Mangaluru. The fee for publishing a paper in the seminar proceedings is Rs 300.
