The following are the highlights of the CEA: Arranging guest lectures by eminent academicians and industrialists at least one per month. Arranging industrial visits to at least three industries per semester. In addition to all the above activities, the society encourages students to participate in various technical programs conducted by other institutions Association Activities during the academic year National Level Technical Symposium CIVIL ENGINEERS ASSOCIATION organised a National Level National Level symposium ARTIFEX 12 on Inauguration of Artifex-12 was presided by Mr. Dharmendra Singh, Deputy General Manager, Transtonnelstroy-Afcons-Joint Venture, Chennai Metro Rail Project with their HR Managers Mr. P. Jeya Krishnan and Mr. Amar Abrar. He gave an inspiring talk on different projects handled by them. There was active participation of 200 students in various events of the "ARTIFEX 12" from different colleges in Tamilnadu. The valedictory function was presided by Dr.S.Ramanagopal, Head of the Department, Department of Civil Engineering, SVCE. ARTIFEX 12 IMAGES

4 Page 4 of 8 ASSOCIATION INAUGURATION The inauguration of the student forum "CIVIL ENGINEERS ASSOCIATION" for the academic year was held on at 1.30 p.m. in the video hall. The function was presided by Dr.R.Sakthivadivel, Emeritus Professor, Centre for Water Resources, Anna University and a special talk on "Strategies and Recommendations for Water tank Development and Management" was delivered by him. 5 Page 5 of 8 NATIONAL WORKSHOP NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON ADVANCES IN CONCRETE TECHNOLOGY AND SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS The One day National workshop on advances in Concrete technology and sustainable materials was conducted on with the primary objective to explore the recent advancements in concrete technology and sustainable materials. Faculty, Research scholars and students from various colleges participated in the workshop and updated themselves in the recent information disseminated by the eminent professionals in the field. 6 Page 6 of 8 GUEST LECTURE - I The expert talk on Chennai metro rail project with specific emphasis on civil engineering construction was delivered by Mr.V.Somasundaram, Chief General Manager (Construction), Chennai Metro Rail Limited on 30 January 2013 in Video Hall. He gave an inspiring talk on the Chennai metro rail project and the active role of civil engineers on the project. The students were able to understand the modern techniques used in the metro rail construction activity which is far more advanced than what they study in textbooks.the lecture stressed the importance of a civil engineer in urbanisation of Metro city.

7 Page 7 of 8 GUEST LECTURE - II The talk on MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM - CIVIL ENGINEERING STUDENT S CHAPTER was delivered by Mr. T.M. GUNARAJA, CHAIRMAN, THE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS (INDIA) on 31 January 2013 in Video Hall. He explained about the various activities of THE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS (INDIA) and listed the benefits of students by getting membership in THE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS (INDIA). The Students were able to understand about activities of THE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS (INDIA) and the benefits of getting membership in THE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS (INDIA).
