Yours sincerely Owen Morgan Head Teacher About Cyfarthfa Park Primary School Cyfarthfa Park Primary School is based on two sites situated to the north of the town of Merthyr Tydfil approximately ½ a mile apart. The Foundation Phase (Infant) Department is on Norman Terrace and the KS2 (junior) department is a half of a mile away in Cyfarthfa Park. This is an exciting time to join our school as we are nearing the end of our fourth year as a primary school. The old schools (Brecon Rd Infant and Cyfarthfa Junior) enjoyed close working relationships for many years but as a primary school we are now able to offer a stronger education for our pupils from the age of 3 to 11. The school has forged excellent partnerships with parents and other stakeholders that have a positive impact on pupils attitudes to learning. 4 Cyfarthfa Park Primary serves a diverse community made up of older privately owned houses, local authority housing and new developments in Merthyr Tydfil. Approximately 60% of our pupils reside outside the designated catchment area. About 15% are entitled to free school meals. The school consists of 7 classrooms in the Foundation Phase and 8 more classrooms in KS2. Both buildings are well equipped and resourced to a high standard and are set in attractive grounds. About the children There are currently 450 pupils aged between 3 and 11 years at the school who come mainly from the town and north of Merthyr Tydfil. The children are enthusiastic, hard working and well behaved. They are treated with respect, loved for themselves and valued for their contributions. About the Staff team As well as the Head Teacher and Deputy, there is currently one teaching Assistant Head, twelve full-time teachers, five part-time teachers, two school clerks, a part time Education Inclusion Officer, seven lunchtime supervisors, a cook, deputy cook, four kitchen assistants and a caretaker. We have sixteen teaching assistants, which allows us to ensure that the additional needs of children can be met. The Deputy and Assistant Heads lead enthusiastic teams in thriving departments. The staff are friendly, hardworking and committed.

5 About the Post The position is for a class teacher, working full time, on a temporary basis for one year initially. We are keen to hear from applicants who are looking to teach in the Foundation Phase. We are looking for teachers who can demonstrate quality teaching and have exceptionally high expectations of every child. NQTs are warmly welcome to apply. 7 JOB DESCRIPTION Main Scale Teacher PART I You are required to carry out the duties of a school teacher as set out in the School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document. PART II Post: Class Teacher with responsibility for specified curriculum subjects and aspects of the school as stated below. The post holder is responsible to the headteacher for all duties and responsibilities. The purpose of the job is to undertake the teaching of an assigned class in the 4-11 years age range, teaching the whole curriculum and being responsible for administrative and pastoral duties in respect of pupils in your class attending to their intellectual, physical, aesthetic, cultural and social needs. Also to fulfil specific curriculum and management responsibilities as stated below. PART III PROFESSIONAL DUTIES 1. To plan and prepare courses and lessons in line with the school curriculum, producing a forecast of work with clear teaching and learning objectives at the beginning of each halfterm. 2. To prepare a detailed timetable for the class, in accordance with the curriculum and to maintain a planning file in accordance with school policy, readily available to the headteacher on request. 3. To teach, according to their educational needs, the pupils assigned to you, including the setting up and marking of work to be carried out in school and elsewhere. 4. To assess, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of pupils in accordance with school policy. 5. To promote the general progress and well-being of individual pupils and make records and reports on their personal and social needs. 6. To communicate and consult with parents of pupils and to co-operate with persons or bodies outside the school, participating in meetings when necessary. 7. To maintain good order and discipline among the pupils and safeguard their health and safety both when they are authorised to be on school premises and when they are engaged in authorised school activities elsewhere. 8. To participate in meetings at the school which relate to the curriculum for the school or the administration or organisation of the school, including pastoral arrangements. 9. To participate in arrangements for the appraisal of own performance and that of other teachers. 10. To review from time to time own methods of teaching and programmes of work and to participate in arrangements for further training and professional development as a teacher to meet needs a identified in appraisal objectives.

To contribute to the selection for appointment and professional development of other teachers and support staff, including the induction and assessment of new teachers and teachers serving induction periods 12, To co-ordinate or manage the work of other staff and to take such part as may be required in the review, development and management of activities relating to the curriculum, organisation and pastoral functions of the school. 13. To participate in administrative and organisational tasks related to above duties including the direction or supervision of persons providing support for the teachers in the school. RESPONSIBILITIES SPECIFIC TO THE POST In consultation with the headteacher, to be responsible for the four key areas of your subjects as fully described in the National Standards for Subject Leaders and school curriculum coordinator policy. 1. To co-ordinate a subject throughout the school (not necessarily applicable to NQTs), providing a role model for teaching and learning and making a distinctive contribution to the raising of pupil standards through the analysis of results and the use of targetsetting. 2. To review and update school policy as necessary for the above subjects having due regard for: The National Curriculum requirements. The views of the staff where appropriate. The expectations and requirements of the headteacher. 3. To devise or update a scheme of work / curriculum map which provides for curriculum content and ensures progression and continuity in learning. 4. To monitor and evaluate provision and attainment of the above subjects throughout the school to ensure curriculum delivery is in line with school policy through work scrutiny, lesson observations and overview of planning and assessments. 5. To monitor, review and update resources in the above subjects ensuring that they are adequate and appropriate for the curriculum and to advise the headteacher of any resource needs. 6. To carry our staff training for teachers and TAs in the above subjects where required. 7. To make presentations to the Governing body in relation to the above subjects as and when required. 8. To provide support to NQT s, Supply Teachers, Students and Teaching Assistants within your key stage. PART IV The job description allocates duties and responsibilities. It does not direct the particular amount of time to be spent in carrying them out and no part of it may be so construed. In allocating time to the performance of duties and responsibilities, the post holder must use directed time in accordance with the school s policy and have regard to Clause 59 of Schoolteachers Conditions of Employment. The job description is not necessarily a comprehensive definition of the post and the teacher may be required to undertake such other tasks appropriate to the level of appointment as the Headteacher may require. It may be reviewed annually or earlier, if necessary. And it may be subject to modification or amendment after consultation with the post holder.
