2 application instructions for first-year students The first-year application is also available online at We are delighted that you have decided to apply to Simmons College. The Admission Committee reviews each application individually, considering not only what you have accomplished, but who you are. We look forward to learning about you. EARLY ACTION Students who are interested in learning about their admission decision early in the application cycle may apply under the Early Action Plan. Early Action is non-binding whereby students submit their application and credentials by the December 1 deadline and are notified of the admission decision by mid-january. The tuition deposit may be submitted at any time before May 1. Under the Early Action Plan, students may be accepted, denied, or reconsidered with other Regular Decision applicants in February. Students may apply to the Honors Program as they apply for admission under the Early Action Plan. They will be notified about the decision on their application to the Honors Program in mid-march. REGULAR DECISION The deadline for Regular Decision applications is February 1. Students will be notified of the committee s decision by by mid-april. Application Plan Early Action Regular Decision Application deadline December 1 February 1 Notification date Mid-January Mid-April Deposit deadline May 1 May 1 FIRST- YEAR STUDENT APPLICATION PROCEDURES CHECKLIST Application Form: Complete the application form and return it to the Oªce of Undergraduate Admission by the appropriate deadline (see box above). $55 Application Fee: A non-refundable $55 application fee or a written request for a fee waiver must be submitted along with your application form. Make check or money order payable to Simmons College. High School Transcript, Secondary School Report and Guidance Counselor Recommendation Form: Complete the top portion of the Secondary School Report and Guidance Counselor Recommendation Form and give it to your guidance or college counselor. Your counselor should complete the counselor recommendation and attach an oªcial copy of your high school transcript, which includes grades from the first quarter of your senior year, if available. Teacher Evaluation: Complete the top portion of the Teacher Evaluation and Recommendation Form and give it to one of your academic teachers. Standardized Test Scores: Applicants must take either the SAT with writing or the ACT. All tests should be taken no later than January of the senior year. Scores will be accepted from oªcial high school transcripts. For scores being sent directly by the College Board, the Simmons College code is Simmons does not require the SAT Subject Tests. If English is not your native language, TOEFL, IELTS, or a comparable test is required. College Essay: There are three choices of essay topics listed in the application. Essays should be typewritten and your own work. Please ensure that your essay submision is at least 250 (and no more than 500) words. Interview: Strongly recommended. TUITION DEPOSIT If you are admitted to Simmons College, a non-refundable tuition deposit of $250 must be paid by the appropriate deposit deadline to hold your place in the first-year class. To reserve residence hall space, you must submit an additional housing deposit of $250 by this deadline. 7 supplemental application for the honors program at Simmons College SUBMIT TO: SIMMONS COLLEGE OFFICE OF UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSION 300 THE FENWAY BOSTON, MA TEL: FAX: WEBSITE: Simmons s Honors Program provides an enriched curriculum offered through small seminars, team-taught courses, study abroad opportunities, research projects, and/or honors independent study. The program is designed to encourage depth of study in the student s chosen major, and to enhance knowledge through interdisciplinary study and global awareness. The program also includes career exploration courses, cocurricular activities on campus and in Boston, and assistance with applying for graduate school and national awards, such as the Fulbright, Truman, and Boren grants. Any prospective student of Simmons College may apply for admission to the Honors Program. Those who are admitted into this highly selective program are self-motivated, intellectually curious, and eager for challenge. They graduate near the top of their high school class and have a solid record of honors, AP, or IB courses. To apply to the Honors Program you must complete the standard admission application PLUS the supplemental application for the Honors Program, on the reverse side of this page. The priority deadline for all Honors Application materials is March 1. Questions should be directed to the Director of the Honors Program at honors@simmons.edu. Please note: Honors applicants may apply under the Early Action Plan and submit the Honors application earlier than March 1. Review of Honors applications begins mid-january. The two decisions are made independently and application for aid will in no way influence the decision for admission.
