1 All students that are admitted to the Civil Engineering Program must show evidence that they have acquired the academic abilities and skills necessary to progress through this major. Those not demonstrating the complete acquisition of these abilities and skills (as reflected by the results of their College Entrance Examination Board test, results in PUPR placement test, previous university experience, or other tests or criteria) will be required to take preparatory courses. These courses are designed to help them overcome deficiencies in languages, mathematics, and science. These preparatory courses are in addition to the 149 credits of the Civil Engineering Program. The preparatory courses are the following: PREPARATORY STUDIES COMPONENT COURSE COURSE TITLE CREDITS MATH 0102 Preparatory Mathematics MATH 0106 Elementary Algebra MATH 0110 Intermediate Algebra MATH 10 Precalculus I MATH 140 Precalculus II SCIE 0110 Introduction to Physics ATUL 0100 Adjustment to University Life ENGL 0100 Preparatory English ENGL 0110 English Grammar SPAN 0100 Preparatory Spanish SPAN 0110 Spanish Grammar CIVIL ENGINEERING CURRICULUM EFFECTIVE: FALL 2012 MATH 150 Calculus I 4 MATH 140 or equivalent MATH 160 Calculus II 4 MATH 150 MATH 170 Calculus III 4 MATH 160 MATH 250 Differential Equations MATH 170 and SCIE 1440 SCIE 1210 Principles of Chemistry 4 MATH 140 or equivalent SCIE 1211 SCIE 1211 Principles of Chemistry Laboratory 0 MATH 140 or equivalent SCIE 1210 SCIE 140 Physics I 4 MATH 150 SCIE 141 SCIE 141 Physics I Laboratory 1 MATH 150 SCIE 140 SCIE 1440 Physics II 4 MATH 160, SCIE 140, and SCIE 141 SCIE 1441 SCIE 1441 Physics II Laboratory 1 MATH 160, SCIE 140, and SCIE 141 SCIE 1440 SPAN 1010 Linguistic Analysis of Literary Genres SPAN 0110 or equivalent SPAN 2020 Business Spanish SPAN 1010 ENGL 1010 The Study of the Essay as a Literary Genre ENGL 0110 or equivalent ENGL 2020 Business English and Communication ENGL 1010 SOHU 2010 Socio-Humanistic Studies SOHU 2040 Ethics, Global, and Contemporary Issues SOHU 2010 Socio-Humanistic Studies or Language Elective Course (a) (b)
