Each member will receive professional development that also serves the institution. 4 Speaker Biographies Elizabeth Colbert-Busch Executive Director, Corporate Development & Community Affairs Clemson University Keynote Speaker Elizabeth Colbert-Busch is the Executive Director of Corporate Development & Community Affairs for the Clemson University Restoration Institute (CURI), in North Charleston. She is responsible for CURI s private-public strategic planning for business and economic development. CURI s projects and programs, totaling approximately a quarter of a billion dollars, include the U.S. Department of Energy s $49M grant to build the state-of-the-art SCE&G Energy Innovation Center. Colbert-Busch serves on the Charleston Regional Development Alliance Board of Directors, Charleston School of Law Maritime Institute s board of director, College of Charleston Alumni Advisory Board. She is a founding member of the Charleston Women in International Trade, S.C. Clean Energy Business Alliance and the Lowcountry STEM Collaborative Planning Group and a member of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce Board of Advisors and the DOE Southeast Regional Wind Resource Center. She serves on the S.C. Regulatory Task Force Committee for Offshore Wind, the Charleston Regional Development Alliance Stakeholder Committee, the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Action Fund s Offshore Wind Awareness and Advocacy team and the College of Charleston s Intermodal Transportation and Logistics Management Program Advisory Committee. She has lectured on economic impact opportunities the energy manufacturing market sector, ocean transportation and intermodalism, market economy and trends, homeland security industry challenges and published improving cargo throughput process under industry dynamic growth and demand on U.S. infrastructure. She is a local, state and nationally recognized motivational speaker on both a personal and professional level. Prior to CURI, Colbert-Busch served as the Director of Sales and Marketing with one of the top 10 ocean carriers, Orient Overseas Container Line (USA) Incorporated and was responsible for all trade lane development, implementation and execution of the business plan, budget objectives and financial goals. She was responsible for public relations and promoting international maritime relations and North America business activity, including the South Atlantic and Gulf regions of the United States and Mexico. She was the company s governmental affairs liaison for maritime and trade related issues and policy. 4

5 Speaker Biographies, continued Glenda Dickson Ombuds Coordinator Clemson University Glenda serves as the Assistant Ombuds and Executive Coordinator for the Clemson University Ombuds Office. She maintains a high level of discretion and sensitivity to dealing with individuals under stressful circumstances from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures. Glenda has served in this role from the beginning of the establishment of the Ombuds Office at Clemson. She serves as an institutional resource for evaluation and resolving complex complaints at an informal level and prepares preliminary research and conducts special projects. Glenda provides administrative management for the Ombuds Office relative to both internal and external operations and functions as a sensor within the campus community to identify patterns and trends that affect the campus as a whole. She serves as the Ombuds case manager regarding issues, procedures & policy and establishes caseload priorities. She has over 35 years professional work experience in administration, human resource, conflict resolution and event development and planning. She believes that the power of active learning and training is crucial to the success of the Ombuds office. She has held various positions with different departments on Campus during her employment of 25 years and her goal is to work collaboratively with all constituents for the diversity of the needs. She welcomes the opportunity to contribute and serve others and hopefully make an important impact for all constituents while developing new ideas and promoting necessary changes that will benefit everyone. Glenda is committed to serving the visitors as a resource for change as she uses her skills to help bridge the gap between visitors and Administration. She recommends that all University and Corporations establish an Ombuds Office as an informal resource for every employee and/or student. Jessi Gordon Senior Consultant Gallup Jessi Gordon is a higher education consultant at Gallup. She partners with colleges and universities across the U.S. to improve student success, faculty and staff effectiveness, and overall education outcomes through Gallup s research and science on talent, strengths, wellbeing and engagement. Jessi s expertise includes the Gallup-Purdue Index, a measurement tool designed to help institutions create and implement the right processes for improvement. Her experience also includes consulting with healthcare organizations and government agencies on innovative customer solutions and well-being programs. Jessi received her bachelor s degree in public health from The George Washington University. She received her Master of Business 5

6 Administration from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her master s degree in public policy from Duke University. Jessi has a concentration in sustainable enterprise from UNC and a concentration in health policy from Duke. Julie Schwab Executive Assistant to the Provost Sam Houston State University Julie Schwab received her BA in Communication Studies from Sam Houston State University (SHSU). She worked for the Texas Department for Criminal Justice for 3 years as an auditor until starting her career with SHSU in 2003 as part time Accounting Clerk in the School of Music. She rose through the ranks via subsequent promotions to full time Accounting Clerk within 6 months, the Assistant to the Director of Music in 2004, the Assistant to the Dean for the College of Fine Arts & Mass Communication in 2010, and the Executive Assistant to the Provost in the spring of In her current role she developed a platform for administrative staff in the Academic Affairs division to bridge the gap of communication between departments/divisions across campus known as the Academic Affairs Staff Chat. This event has evolved from 2 meetings a year to 2-4 meetings per semester. Over the years, she has served and is still serving on various committees on campus, some of which include: Staff Council, including serving as chair of the Special Events and Spotlight on Staff Award Committee for 6 years, Homecoming and Battle of the Piney Woods Committee, Special Programs & Events Committee, and the Faculty Staff Annual Fund Campaign. When not spending her days at SHSU, she is with her husband of 15 years and twin boy/girl 12 year olds usually at a baseball field, volleyball match, basketball game, a tumbling and cheer gym, OR possibly at home trying to find time to be at home. Within her career and personal life her passion is empowering others around her. Her life motto is To see the success in others is when she knows she has succeeded. Chris Wood Financial Officer for the Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs Clemson University Chris serves as the Chief Budget Officer for the Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs. Academic Affairs at Clemson University consists of more than 30 academic support units and a combined budget exceeding 130 million dollars annually. In his current role, Chris assists his Provost Office financial staff in daily operations, works closely with the Director of Academic Finance, and serves as a resource for other entities under the Provost umbrella. In addition to his Provost and Academic Affairs engagement, Chris also serves on the Student Fee Committee, 6

7 Conflict of Interest Committee, Vending Committee, and other various committees as required. Over his 16 years of employment service with Clemson University, Chris has previously served as the Scholarship Manager for the Office of Student Financial Aid, Assistant Budget Officer for the Provost and Academic Affairs and has been in the Chief Budget Officer role for the past 3 years. Prior to Clemson University, Chris worked in banking and real estate in a variety of roles. Chris received a bachelor s degree in Financial Management with an emphasis in Financial Institutions as well as a Master s of Business Administration from Clemson University. 7
