1 POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION: DEPARTMENT/CAMPUS: REPORTS TO: TENURE: Institute of Positive Education, Marketing and Communications Adviser Geelong Grammar School Institute of Positive Education, Corio Director of Institute of Positive Education 12 months fixed term (leave replacement). Part-time (22.5 hours per week) DATE PREPARED: June, 2015 WORKING ENVIRONMENT Geelong Grammar School is one of the world s leading coeducational boarding and day schools offering exceptional education to all of its students, from Early Learning to Year 12. Geelong Grammar School consists of four campuses: Bostock House (approximately 100 students). Situated in the Geelong suburb of Newtown, this campus caters for day students from Early Learning Centre to Year 4. After Year 4, students from Bostock House proceed to Corio. Toorak (approximately 360 students) is located in Melbourne. It caters for students from Early Learning Centre to Year 6. After Year 6, most students proceed to Corio. Toorak is a day campus with approximately 50 teaching and support staff. Corio (approximately 900 students) offers day, day boarding, weekly boarding and full boarding in Years 5-8 (Middle School) and day and full boarding in Years (Senior School). About 80% of Corio students are full boarders. Approximately 100 staff (nearly all teaching) reside on the campus, with 30 accommodation units being connected to boarding houses, and the remainder consisting mostly of freestanding residences. The campus is like a small community with its own (large) kitchen/dining facilities, a medical centre (9 beds), Chapel and maintenance workshops as well as the usual educational infrastructure. Timbertop (approximately 220 students) is a boarding campus for all Year 9 students, located near Mt Buller in Victoria's Alps. All teaching staff live on the campus and students spend the entire year at Timbertop taking part in hiking, recreational and community service activities. The position of Institute of Positive Education, Marketing and Communications Adviser is an essential part of the Institute of Positive Education and reports to the Director of the Institute. Positive Education brings together the science of positive psychology with best practice teaching to encourage and support schools and individuals within their communities to flourish.

2 The Institute of Positive Education oversees the strategy, implementation and review of Positive Education in all aspects of life at Geelong Grammar School. The Institute is also established to assist growing the field of Positive Education beyond the School. The vision of the Institute is to lead by example and innovate in the field of Positive Education. The Institute of Positive Education, Marketing and Communications Adviser works closely with all staff members of the Institute and the School s the Marketing and Communications Manager (Community Relations) and is responsible for providing advice, developing, implementing and managing the Institute s strategic communications plan. The position requires the incumbent to work with students and staff of the School (teaching and non-teaching), visitors and people external to the School. POSITION OBJECTIVE: To develop and coordinate the marketing and communication strategies for the Geelong Grammar School Institute of Positive Education. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Institute of Positive Education, Marketing and Communications Adviser is responsible for the following: 1. In consultation with the Director of the Institute, develop and manage the Institute s strategic communications plan to increase the awareness of the Institute and the training, research and development services and programmes that can be utilised and provide benefit to external organisations and clients to the School. This involves the following; a. implement the Institute s communications plan, utilising all elements of the marketing mix including print, web, e-communications, video s, advertising, media and public relations b. develop and manage all marketing and communications collateral c. develop and manage all promotional campaigns from conception to completion, simultaneously with competing deadlines d. develop, implement and manage the Institute s website content and functional requirements e. manage the Institute s marketing and communications budget f. develop, implement and manage the Institute s social media strategy and ongoing social media presence g. coordinate casual staff assisting with the marketing and communications function h. liaise with the Communications and Marketing Manager to ensure that the Institute s strategic communications plan is consistent with the overall marketing and communications strategy of the School i. on behalf of the Institute, be responsible for engaging with and then managing media and public relations enquiries when required. 2. Analyse statistical data relating to the Institute s digital media platforms and report on the findings, including the impact and outcomes of the Institute s communication plan. 3. Develop and distribute Positive Education content (e.g. news articles, course advertisements and image galleries) across the School s various communications platforms, including websites, handbooks, printed publications, e-newsletters and smartphone application. 4. Provide advice and assistance to Institute staff regarding the marketing and communication s implications and requirements for new business development and management activities and programmes. 5. Assist with the development, management and archiving of digital assets, particularly images and videos. 6. Promote the values of the Institute of Positive Education 7. Undertake other related duties as requested by the School that are relevant to the role.

3 ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: The Institute of Positive Education, Marketing and Communications Adviser is a member of the Institute of Positive Education. The position reports to the Director of the Institute, and has involvement with the following positions, and people: Internal liaisons Institute of Positive Education staff The Communications and Marketing Manager Design & Marketing Officer Events & Support Groups Co-ordinator IT Departments GGS Community External liaisons Commercial and professional organisations External Media organisations Visiting academics and visiting speakers KEY SELECTION CRITERIA: The position of Institute of Positive Education, Marketing and Communications Adviser requires the following key skills and experience: 1. Excellent communication skills and ability to liaise and work with people at all levels within the organisation 2. A proven ability to work both independently and in partnership with other staff as part of a team 3. The capacity for strategic planning and thinking and well-developed analytical and problem solving skills 4. Skills and experience in managing or coordinating the elements and outputs of a busy marketing and communications function 5. Experience in managing and developing effective marketing and communications collateral 6. Well-developed administrative and organisational skills 7. Excellent writing, sub-editing and proof reading skills 8. Experience with digital content management systems and the ability to use relevant software, including Photoshop 9. Working knowledge of social media, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram 10. Knowledge of video production and video platforms/streaming software, including YouTube 11. Ability to gather and analyse website usage data to assist in the planning for future digital media strategy 12. Ability to plan daily workloads and prioritise schedules and meet deadlines DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or experience working in one or more of either public relations, marketing, social/digital media and communications, journalism or related disciplines The ability to work within an educational environment A knowledge of the principles of Positive Education and Positive Psychology would be an advantage, however training in Positive Education will be provided. COMMITMENT TO POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY AND POSITIVE EDUCATION: All new members of staff are required to attend a three day Positive Psychology training conference (usually held in January of each year) and all Geelong Grammar staff undertake regular update training and participate in seminars on Positive Psychology as required.
