1 1 ADMISSION, SELECTION AND ENROLLMENT OF STUDENTS Lawrence Memorial/Regis College admits academically qualified persons without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability or veteran status. Financial need is not considered in the admission process. Applicants are selected on a competitive basis who provide evidence of academic accomplishment, work and life experience, strong motivation, and the potential to successfully complete the program. Each candidate is evaluated on an individual basis based on overall strengths according to established admission criteria. Advanced placement is available to students transferring from another Radiography program (see Advanced Placement policy). Admission Requirements: Education: Applicants must be high school graduates or have earned a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate. Applicants with a GED must have earned a minimum of 450 in the math and science components on the 2002 Series GED. Those applicants with a GED prior to 2002 must have earned a minimum of 45 in each of the five test areas. For high school graduates, a college preparatory course of studies with a cumulative average of B (85%) is preferred. Home-schooled students must submit all syllabi, reading lists and grading records. If a specific independent study course is pursued, please submit all requirements for this course. Homeschooled students must also take the SAT and three SAT II tests. All applicants should have completed algebra, and two laboratory science courses (e.g. chemistry, biology, physics etc) with a grade of C (75%) or better. These required courses may be taken at the high school or college level. Fulfillment of these requirements may also be achieved through the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and attaining the score(s) specified by Regis College. A student who has a score of 440 or above in the math component of the SAT is not required to have taken high school algebra. All applicants must have completed an approved college level Anatomy and Physiology I course with a grade of C (75%) or better before admissions can be finalized. Anatomy and Physiology II must be completed with a grade of C (75%) as a prerequisite to two radiography courses (MR 201 and MR 231) taken in the first semester of Year II. Applicants with previous general college education must meet the Program s admission requirements and should have earned a 2.5 cumulative average or above in their post-secondary course work. Official transcripts from the applicant's high school and all post-secondary schools are required. Applicants should mail official transcripts with their application packet. Transcripts must be in their original, unopened sealed envelopes. Applicants who are matriculated students at Regis College seeking admission to the Radiography Program may have their official transcripts shared

2 between the Registrar, Weston campus and the Registrar, Medford campus. Job Shadow Experience: Applicants under serious consideration for acceptance will be required to complete a job shadow experience for a day or part thereof at one of the program s affiliating clinical sites. The Admissions Coordinator will inform those applicants of the procedure to arrange for the for job shadow experiences at one of the affiliated clinical sites. References: Each applicant must submit 3 completed reference forms in original, unopened, sealed envelopes. The references should be from professors, employers and/or supervisors who know the candidate and can evaluate traits specified in the form. Transfer students from other radiography programs must have two academic references, one from the most recent Radiography Clinical Instructor and one from the Radiography Program Director/Administrator. The reference form is available either online or from the Admissions Office. International Students: Admission policies are designed to encourage the enrollment of qualified international students. International applicants, those who did not complete their entire primary education (grades 1-12) in the United States, must meet the admission requirements of the program. In order to process applications from international applicants, the following procedures must be followed: International transcripts must be sent to an approved educational documentation service for certification that the international applicant has successfully completed a course of study equivalent to that normally required of a United States applicant. International applicants must take an English proficiency test. Tests must have been taken within two (2) years. The approved tests and scored required are as follows: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum score of 220 and/or essay score of at least 4.0 on the computerized TOEFL; an 83 on the Internet based TOEFL; or 560 on the paper administered TOEFL. 2

3 International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum overall band score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in all modules Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) with a minimum score of 55 and no individual score below 50 Prior to enrollment the applicant who is not a US citizen or permanent resident must submit proof of financial responsibility (bank statement). The Program will issue the necessary I-20 forms required by the Immigration and Naturalization Service after the student has been accepted and has paid the required deposit. Proof of legal status for non-us citizens will be required after acceptance but prior to enrollment in classes. For matriculated students at Regis College to be considered as a candidate for the Radiography Program, the following requirements must be met: - Overall Regis College GPA of 3.0 or better - Anatomy and Physiology I (with lab) grades of B or better (college level) - Either Chemistry or Physics (with lab) with grade of C or better (college level) unless candidate has a lab science with a grade of 75% or better from high school - Two references on the LM/RC reference form: at least 1 from Regis professor, another may be from an employer In addition, an interview at the Admissions Office LM/RC (on the Medford campus) will be required. Following the interview, a job shadow experience, coordinated by the Admissions Office at LM/RC, will be required for transfer applicants under serious consideration. LM/RC application form must be completed and submitted to LM/RC Admissions office. (LM/RC application fee is waived for matriculated students at Regis College). Official transcripts required for admission to Regis College will be shared with the LM/RC Program on the Medford campus. Admission Process: Each application folder is reviewed only after all required materials are received. Early planning and submission of application materials facilitates placement in the desired entering class if accepted. Admission decisions are made twice each year, in the fall for up to one half of the class and in late spring for the remaining seats in the class. The application packet must be completed and submitted to the Admissions Coordinator along with the application fee, if applicable, before any action is taken on the applicant. After receipt of application, fee, essay, all official transcripts, employment listing (resume) and references, the applicant's credentials will be evaluated. 3

4 A personal interview and a job shadowing appointment will be required of candidates who are being seriously considered for admission. The Admission and Progression Committee makes the final decision regarding acceptance into the program. Factors utilized by the committee in acceptance decisions include: academic achievement; the clarity and completeness of the essay; trait assessments from references and documented experience in dealing with the public, particularly in a health care setting. Interview and job shadow assessment are also considered. Applicants are notified by letter of the admission decision. Transfer of Credit for Non-Radiology College Courses: Accepted applicants may be exempted from taking some of the eight required non-radiography courses in the curriculum if they have completed equivalent, approved courses during postsecondary education with a grade of C (2.0) or better. After acceptance, a student who has previously completed more than 5 transferable courses may petition the Registrar, Medford campus, for consideration to be allowed one additional exemption (see Exemption from Non- Radiography Courses policy). Enrollment Requirements: The practice of radiography involves cognitive, sensory, affective, and psychomotor performance requirements. Accepted students must be able to meet the requirements specified as Essential Functions of a Radiography Student. Along with the ability to meet these stated functions, enrollment is contingent upon completion of educational, financial, health and CPR requirements and receipt of acceptable Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI). Prior to enrollment the Registrar must have received all official transcripts from all high schools and post-secondary schools. Accepted applicants are required to submit a non-refundable $500 ($100 for nonmatriculating students) fee to reserve a place in the class. This fee is credited towards tuition upon enrollment. Tuition and fees must be paid prior to enrollment. Prior to enrollment, accepted applicants must have their health care provider complete required health forms including documentation of required immunization and titers, and have these on file in the program s Student Health Office. Health forms and the Essential Functions for the Medical Radiographer are sent to accepted applicants. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification at the Provider level is prerequisite to clinical entry. The BLS course must include hands-on mannequin practice. CORI evaluations are required of all accepted applicants. Many clinical learning sites require this of all patient care providers including radiography students. Certain categories of conduct and certain felony or misdemeanor convictions are designated to preclude licensure as a Medical Radiographer in Massachusetts or certification as a Registered Radiologic Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. 4

5 Non-matriculating Students: A non-matriculating student is one who either does not wish to become a candidate for the Associate of Science degree in Radiography at this time or whose admission packet has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee and the committee requests more evidence of math and science strength. Such applicants if accepted as non-matriculating students will be enrolled in up to two concurrent non-radiography courses for credit at Regis College. After successful completion of these courses the student may petition the Admissions Committee for acceptance as a matriculating student. Non-matriculating students who have petitioned will be considered for matriculation status with other applicants being considered for acceptance. Enrollment policies and procedures for non-matriculating students are available through the Admissions Office.
