3 CHAPTER 2 (Mannual-1) Particulars of Organization, Function and Duties 2.1 Objective / Purpose of Samrat Ashok Technological Institute (Engineering College) Vidisha, (M.P.) : To provide Technical, Science and Management Education to students 2.2 Vision statement: To contribute towards service and development of the mankind, through quality education and research, in the area of science & technology. 2.3 Brief History of the college : Samrat Ashok Technological Institute, a premier institute of the region, was established on November 1, 1960 under the Open Door policy of the Government of India,by the Maharaja Jiwajirao Education Society, Vidisha with a donation from Gangajali TrustFund of Scindias, erstwhile rulers of the Gwalior State, and commitment of non-recurring and recurring grants from the Government of India and the Government of Madhya Pradesh inagreed proportions. The foundation stone of the Instiute was laid down by late Pt.Jawahar Lal Nehru,Hon ble Prime Minister of India on February 13, 1962 and was inaugurated by late Dr.Rajendra Prasad, Hon ble President of India.The institute started with a total intake of 120 studnets per year in the three major disciplines of engineering, namely, Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. It was affiliated to the Vikram University, Ujjain to which the three other engineering colleges in the region namely, MACT (now MANIT) Bhopal, SGSITS Indore and MITS Gwalior were also affiliated at that time. After the establishement of Bhopal University at Bhopal now renamed as Barkatullah Vishwavidyalaya, the Institute was affiliated to it along with MACT Bhopal and GEC, Bhopal. With the establishment of Rajiv Gandhi University of Techonolgy(RGPV), Bhopal in 1998, the Institute was affiliated to this University for Engineering and Computer Applications courses.the Institute campus, a few minutes walk from the railway station is situated in the Civil Lines area, near the industrial estate of Vidisha. It is spreading over 85 acres lush green land with well maintained roads and approaches, playgrounds and gardens etc. It has its own tubewell based water supply and a H.T. substation for electric supply.the institute has completed 55 years. during which the Institute grew in a big way, as it is now offering 09 under graduate courses in Engineering (B.E.), 11 post graduate courses in Engineering (M.E. / M.Tech.), Master of Computer Applications (MCA), (all affiliated to RGPV, Bhopal). Master of Business Administration (MBA), 04 postgraduate courses in applied sciences ( affiliated to B.U., Bhopal). It is also a recongised center for Doctotarl Degree of RGPV, Bhopal and BU Bhopal.Institute has academic autonomy granted by RGPV Bhopal from , for B.E., M.C.A., M.E. & M.Tech. courses Institute has applied for NBA accreditation for 10 courses & visit is due in March Earlier also Institute had received NBA accreditation for B.E. Civil, Mech, Electrical & EI courses. Institute is recognized under section 2(f) and 12 (b) of UGC. Institute received autonomy from UGC for 6 Years from , institute also received autonomy from BU Bhopal since for MBA & M.Sc. in Applied Sciences. Institute has applied for NAAC accreditation. It is also selected under TEQIP II scheme of MHRD.Institute has well qualified, experienced and dynamic faculty to impart the high level education in engineering, technology, science and management. There are well equipped modern laboratories, well stocked digital library, sports facilities and other facilities to meet academic, extra curricular activities, and other requirements. Since its establishment, institute has played a significant role in developing human resources to meet the requirement of industries at home and abroad. Some of our eminent alumni have achieved world class caliber and competence and have been awarded National and International awards including Noble Prize (Er. Kailash Satyarthi) and Padma Shree (Er. V.K.Chaturvedi). 3

21 CHAPTER - 9 (Mannual-8) Procedure followed in Decision Making Process 9.1 Policy matters are decided by Governing Body/Managing Committee, Service matters of the college are regulated as per bye-laws of BOG and M.P. Government Rules and regulations framed from time to time. Academic matters are decided based on the guidelines of AICTE and Rajiv Gandhi Technical University, Bhopal and orders of Government of Madhya Pradesh. 9.2 All the important matters are decided by different committees formed by the Governing Body based on the details placed by the Director, Member secretary as agenda items. The final decision is vested with BOG. 9.3 The admission policy, reservation of seats, etc., are communicated to the public by Information Brochure/Prospectus. 9.4 The Director being the Member-Secretary places all the important matters for decision of the Governing Body. 9.5 Governing Body is the final authority. 9.6 Information regarding important matters on which the decision is taken by public authority.
