1 Shaping the future of international education CIS Student Recruitment Tour Colombia April 2018 Panama City, Panama Medellin, Colombia Barranquilla, Colombia Bogota, Colombia Cali, Colombia
2 ABOUT THE TOUR This is the 14th iteration of the CIS Colombia Tour. The tour continues in a strong tradition of connecting well-prepared Colombian students with excellent university opportunities. As in years past, this tour will add Panama City (a dollar economy and strong market for international education and study abroad). While in Colombia, the tour will focus on the primary markets of the country (Bogota, Medellin, Barranquilla and Cali). Participants can expect participation in a combination of institution building activities such as school visits, counsellor networking opportunities, and a service project. QUICK FACTS FROM 2017 TOUR 15 Schools Visited 2,635 Students Seen What makes CIS tours unique? CIS tours have stood the test of time. CIS is a non-profit organisation that has been sponsoring recruitment tours for nearly 40 years. Our tour leaders are experienced admissions professionals working at CIS member universities. They understand your needs and goals. CIS tours are targeted. Tour events include invited students from high quality CIS member schools and outstanding national schools with student populations preparing to study abroad. CIS tours offer inclusive pricing. There are no surprise bills at the end of the tour. The tours are assisted by highly experienced travel professionals to manage all the logistics. CIS tours are truly educational. During the tour, participants lead workshops to help students, parents, counsellors, and teachers learn more about admission-related topics. Daily interactions with admissions professionals from other CIS member institutions allow you to learn from the others, share ideas and build your network. The tour provided an opportunity to learn more about the culture in Colombia. I now have more knowledge and understanding of the country and culture which will help when talking to both applicants and enrolled students from Colombia. I can now engage with students on a more personal level. -Timothy Cushing, Senior Assistant Director of Admission, Wheaton College
3 MEET THE TOUR DIRECTORS TOUR DIRECTOR Seth Walker Associate Director of International Admissions Indiana University Seth has been working with international students at Indiana University since the summer of First as a graduate assistant on the student and scholar services side of the office followed by admissions. This shift in 2012 to international recruitment as an Assistant Director has seen Seth travel extensively to Asia, Latin America and Europe and remain active in professional organizations such as International ACAC and CIS. This tour will be Seth s first time leading a tour to Colombia, a region he has traveled to many times before. ASSISTANT TOUR DIRECTOR Marcela Mejia Martinez Assistant Vice President of Undergraduate Admission Chapman University mamartin@champman.edu Marcela has been on the leadership team of Admission for the last 19 years at Chapman University in Orange, CA. She has led tours in Latin America for universities. Prior to CU, she worked as an admission and financial aid counselor at her alma mater, Loyola Marymount University. She is a member of lnternational ACAC, WACAC, and NACAC and has presented at each of these organizations conferences as well as at CIS conferences. She has been recognized by WACAC twice for service to the organization and to students. She has led the CIS Colombia Student Recruitment Tour two times and her family is from Medellin.
