Excelsior Ever Upward The Campaignn for Fordham seeks to raise $500 million to bring Fordham into a new era by 2016, its 175th anniversary. To date, the University has raised over $400 million towards this goal. Fordham seeks a mission-driven fundraiser and manager to serve as the Assistant Vice President, Annual Giving Programs. Reporting to the Associate Vice President, School and Constituent Programs, the successful candidate will lead the annual giving program,, which raises support for current use and primarily unrestricted funds from alumni, parents and friends. While maintaining a portfolio of leadership annual giving prospects, the Assistant Vice President will guide and oversee a team of six professionals. He or she will successfully createe and implement marketing, engagement and solicitation strategies towards the goals of increasing total annual giving, alumni participation, donor retention, and gift size. The ideal candidate willl possess: significant experience leading a comprehensive annual giving program, preferably in a higher education institution; successful experience in personally soliciting leadership annual gifts; and, a track record in engaging and supporting reunion and/or annual giving volunteers. Moreover, the Assistant Vice President will bring strongg management abilities, including effective motivation, mentoring, and team building: the talent to leverage team members existing capacity and strengthen performance, while maintaining best fundraising practices, camaraderie, and shared accountability. Along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, he or she will have a track record of providing strategic direction and daily management t of successful annual fundraising initiatives. 4 IMPORTANT RELATIR ONSHIPS Within the Development and University Relations (DAUR) Department, the Development Team is organized into eleven programs, alll overseen by the Associate Vice President, School and Constituent Programs: Annual Giving; Major Gifts; Planned Giving; Fordham Collegee Rose Hill; Fordham College Lincoln Center; Athletics; Graduate Business; Gabelli Schooll of Business; WFUV (90.7 FM Public Radio); Development Operations; and Advancement Research. As a senior leader of the DAUR, the Assistant Vice President, Annual Giving Programs will report to the Associate Vice President, School and Constituent Programs, Mr. Michael T. Boyd. The successful candidate will actively mentor his or her staff (see organization chart below), identify funding opportunities, and advise on effective fundraising strategyy and techniques. He or she will also work individually and with staff to recruit, support, and managee reunion and annual giving volunteers. In order to ensure a coordinated and comprehensiv ve fundraising process, the Assistantt Vice President will collaborate and effectively communicate with colleagues across the Department. Moreover, he or she will work closely with senior administration, deans, faculty, colleagues, volunteers, and alumni on fundraising initiatives, as appropriate. 5 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The Assistant Vice President will strategically lead and opportunities and challenges include: manage the annual giving programs. Key Lead the Annual Giving Program, whichh raises giftss for currentt use and primarily unrestricted support from alumni, parents, and friends; Manage the annual giving staff, providing strategic support and ongoing guidance: maintain best fundraising and operational practices, utilizing clearly defined goals, objectives, and transparent methods with which to measure success; Maintain a personal portfolioo of leadership annual giving donors and prospects; Create and execute marketing, engagement, and solicitation strategies designed to increase alumni participation (especially among less developed constituencies), donor retentionn among alumni, and gift size; Strategically engage and support University leadership and colleagues, volunteers, and alumni in fundraising activities, as appropriate; Develop and manage the Annual Giving Programs budget; Collaborate with colleagues throughout the Development and University Relations Department to ensure a coordinated and effective fundraising approach. IDEAL EXPERIENCE & QUALITIES Reflecting Fordham s Jesuit tradition, the University seeks a mission-driven fundraiser and manager who will positively contribute to the institution. In addition to the demonstrated ability to meet and exceed the responsibilities listed in the preceding section, the ideal candidate will possess the following experience and attributes: Significant experience leading a comprehensive annual giving program, preferably in higher education or private secondary education, resulting in improved performance and increased philanthropic revenue and alumni donor participation; Demonstrated record of personal solicitations, including the design and execution of identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies; Page 5 of 7

6 Solid track record in engaging, supporting, and managing reunionn or annual giving volunteers; Strong management acumen, including effective motivation, mentoring, and team building; the ability to leverage team members existing capacity and strengthen performance, while maintaining best fundraising practices, camaraderie, and shared accountability; Ability to inspire, generate excitement, shared purpose, and action; Excellent communication skills (both written and oral), while also being a good listener; Collaborative style and flexibility, combined with focused energy, patience, and a healthy sense of perspective; Positive and creative manner of approaching issues and devising sound strategies based on data analysis and good judgment; Bachelor s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
