1 000 City Learning Trust Director of Mathematics (L20-L24) Applications are invited for the above post within the City Learning Trust. We are seeking an exceptional leader of Mathematics to become the Trust s Director of subject. The successful candidate will be an outstanding teacher and leader of Mathematics who can demonstrate a track record of raising standards in teaching, learning and student outcomes across a team. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to take the next step towards senior leadership across a Trust while staying close to the subject they love. You will work closely with the CEO, Trust Leadership team and all Academy leaders to shape the vision and culture for excellence in Mathematics across the Trust. You will work with a talented and committed team of scientists and act as the lead Mathematics professional. As such, you will need to possess specialist subject expertise coupled with the skills and experience to assist mathematics staff at all levels to further develop pedagogy and practice, inspire young people and contribute to school improvement as part of the CLT extended leadership team. You will join the Trust at an exciting time as we establish an international partnership with Singapore to share excellence. 4 Director of Mathematics Role The Director of Mathematics will work closely with the CEO and Senior Leadership teams across the Trust on the strategic development of Mathematics. At the heart of the role will be working alongside our academies to support them in developing best practice within Mathematics in teaching, learning, raising standards of achievement, providing appropriate challenge, holding and being held to account for performance and generally leading and supporting the continual development and improvement process for Mathematics across the Trust. The Director of Mathematics will be responsible for the development of subject specific pedagogy; they will work with Senior Leaders and Academy Faculty Leaders to provide CPD for staff alongside playing an instrumental role in the coaching and developing of the practice of others. They will ensure that the Trust s Mathematics Development Centre is further developed into a national centre of excellence that drives forward Mathematics practice within the Trust. The role will include developing and implementing a mathematics vision from reception to Key Stage 5 and as such the Director of Mathematics will be expected to promote and develop partnership and collaboration between academies including further developing the already established strategic vision, development and team network groups. The post is responsible to the CEO Job Description Responsible for: Strategic leadership of Mathematics and numeracy in all academies across the Trust. Supporting the CEO and Senior Leadership in the strategic development and operation of CLT. Line and Performance Management of designated staff to ensure their optimum performance. Job purpose: Ensure that the CLT ethos, principles and practice are embedded and that all CLT policies and procedures are implemented within the post holder s remit. Ensure that each academy s Mathematics team is outward looking and fully engages as a member of the CLT fulfilling its partnership and collaboration responsibilities and contributing to shaping the vision and direction of CLT and the wider academy led education system. Support and challenge the development of Mathematics practice across the Trust. Quality assure Mathematics across the Trust. Report to the CEO and Senior Leadership team on primary, secondary and 6th form phases for performance, progress and operation within the framework and requirements of CLT policy. Report to the CLT Board, sub committees or Strategic Advisory Group as required on the performance of primary, secondary and 6th form phases. Work with Head teachers/principals and their academy senior leadership teams and academy staff to ensure strategic planning is in place for quality assurance and CPD of Mathematics. Help to develop innovative quality assurance and CPD to drive up standards in all Trust academies. Work with other senior staff to liaise on joined up CPD systems and processes across the Trust working closely with Head teachers/principals ensuring that it is within agreed CLT parameters.

5 Standards: Ensure that appropriate support, advice and challenge is provided to academies at individual, hub and whole Trust level to raise standards and improve their performance and aid their move to gain a good or outstanding judgement from Ofsted. Help determine and then lead the roll-out of effective structures and practices in education across the Trust so that all Trust academies develop a core commonality and consistency of practice and methods of working which have a proven track record of impact on academy standards and pupil achievement. Work with Head teachers/principals and their academy senior leadership teams and academy staff to ensure strategic intervention is in place for identified groups of young people. Analyse data and set targets, actions and development plans for academies within the Trust. Develop innovative curriculum models and assessment procedures to drive up standards in all Trust academies. Continuing Professional Development: Provide professional advice on the Trust s programme of CPD. Contribute to the planning and delivery of training at academy, hub or Trust level as part of the Trust s interventions and support for staff development in academies. Where appropriate, undertake front-of-class CPD activities for leaders and teachers in academies across the Trust and in academy improvement traded services on behalf of the Trust. Liaison: Create ways of maintaining and improving a hub model of local liaison. Work closely within the CLT sector to ensure seamless transition from primary to secondary and sixth form provision. Lead, supervise, coordinate and monitor the work of CLT staff as required. Inspection Preparation and Challenge: Give professional support and rigorous self-reflective challenge for Head teachers/principals and other senior leaders across the Trust within your specialism in order to promote a confident and knowledgeable approach which matches the inspection-ready requirements for academies. Ensure Ofsted readiness within your specialism including oversight of the SEFs, academy improvement and development plans. Quality assure the Mathematics curriculum of primary, secondary and sixth form phases working closely with Head teachers/principals ensuring that it is within agreed CLT parameters. Deputising for the CEO or Senior staff of the Trust: Day to day leadership, management and operation of CLT Chairing meetings Attending meetings on behalf of the CEO/Senior Trust staff when required Representing the CEO on CLT and other Boards when required Strategic development and operation of CLT: Contribute at a strategic level to the delivery of high quality Trust management and development plans and strategic targets and objectives. Work with the CEO, Senior staff and the Board to provide direction and ambitious vision for CLT Work with the CEO and Senior staff to develop and deliver the CLT Strategic Development Plan and Annual Report Work with the CEO and Senior staff to define, develop and maintain CLT principles and practice, and CLT policies and procedures. Attend CLT Board and Trust Board meetings and other governance related meetings as appropriate.

6 Support the CEO and Senior staff with any new projects including additional academies into the group and the leadership of academy to academy support projects. Develop partnership and collaboration work across CLT. Specifically delegated responsibilities: Lead the development and delivery of Mathematics and Numeracy across the Trust and oversee CLT primary, secondary and sixth form standards for Mathematics and Numeracy. Membership of the CLT Strategic RAP groups. Contribute to the oversight of Ofsted preparation plans for each academy Coordinate the SEF/SDP CLT strategy in relation to maths/numeracy Contribute to the establishment and development of plans for improvement of MAT joint academy development priorities Oversee operational CLT quality assurance for Mathematics and Numeracy Contribute towards CLT MAT Ofsted preparation Lead on the CLT Mathematics and Numeracy networks Membership of the CLT Directors Leadership Group Leadership of the Trust Mathematics Development Centre Special projects as required by the CEO
