2 Introduction Pharmaceutical research has reached new heights with the rapid advancement in drug discovery, drug design and development of new drug delivery systems. Recent development in the field of molecular biology, genomics, proteomics, nanotechnology, high throughput technologies, pharmacovigilance, and computational biology has opened new vistas of knowledge to understand science at molecular level. Recent surveys have shown that there has been sudden surge in number of colleges and PG centers and though, every year, thousands of pharmacy graduates and post graduates are passing out of Indian educational institutes, only a few of them posses employable technological skills and knowledge of current corporate scenario. Acute need is felt to shift the focus of research towards collaborative research between industry and academic institutes. This programme is designed to share the current status of knowledge with new generation pharmacy faculties to equip them with the recent tools and techniques used in teaching and research. Thus this programme indirectly enriches the students with recent scientific knowledge. Objectives and importance of the Event Develop higher order reasoning skills in prospective faculty members Retrieve academic literature and apply it to real world situations relative to pharmacy education Share the current status of knowledge with new generation pharmacy faculties to equip them with the recent tools and techniques used in teaching and research Enriching knowledge of Faculty with updated current advancement in research works and technologies Improvement of communication skill and the teachers will be motivated in their respective field and profession Execution of Programme With the above objective in mind, Columbia Institute of Pharmacy, Raipur had applied to All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi (AICTE) under Staff Development Programme grant in November The Council approved the programme and sent an offer letter with a sanction of Rs. 3, 00,000/- (Three Lakhs only), vide letter no. RIFD/SDP/128/ , dt. 28/03/11, was received at the institute on 19/04/2011. The details of the programme in the form of Brochure (Annexure I) along with Registration form were sent in third week of April 2011 to various Pharmacy Colleges throughout the country. The Institute received an overwhelming response from the applicants. Number of delegates from Madhya Pradesh, Rajsthan, Uttar 2

Breakfast and Lunch was arranged for all the Guests, Resource Persons, Staffs and Delegates at the Venue, Columbia Institute of Pharmacy, Raipur. Dinner for resource persons and outstation delegates was arranged at their respective Hotels, while local delegates were provided allowance for dinner. Inaugural Session The Chief Guest of seminar Prof. Bimal Chandra Mal, Hon ble Vice Chancellor, Swami Vivekanand Technical University, Bhilai (C.G), inaugurated the function. In his speech Hon ble Chief Guest, motivated the 3

4 teachers for research and to work for the betterment of students and profession. During his address he told that a teacher in the field of education whether in technical or non technical, should not feel that his has entered the profession only for the sake of making money, he should also have the feeling to improvise the teaching methodology by adopting the modern methods along with the research work for the betterment of students, who the future of nation, senior teachers should also help the young teachers entering into the profession about the betterment of students, if this is the attitude of a teacher then there is no doubt that the name & fame earned will be an asset for him. The Guest of Honor, Dr. Pulok Mukherjee, Director, School of Natural Studies, Jadavpur University (West Bengal) & a well known scientist worldwide stated how a teacher can make the teaching easier & interesting by way of using modern methodology. The special Guest, Prof. S.H. Ansari, Ex. Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, Jamia Hamdard University, New Delhi that fifteen years back there were no such programmes were conducted for the teachers. However, the need for upgrading of teachers has been understood and the Government is encouraging for conducting such programmes. Mr. Kishore Jadwani, Chief Patron & Chairman, Janpragati Education Society, Raipur welcomed all the delegates and highlighted the objective & topics to be covered by the expertise from different Universities, Institutions & Industries. Prof. Amit Roy, Convernor & Principal, Columbia Institute of Pharmacy, Raipur stated that Institution has always taken the initiatives in conducting such programmes in the past also, which is always beneficial to the students as well as the teachers. Mr. Harjeet Singh Hura, Patron and Secretary, Janpragati Education Society, Raipur, thanked AICTE, New Delhi for sponsoring the Programme & the delegates for participating. Delegates visited Medicinal Plant Garden which consists of more than 200 species of endemic and endangered medicinal plants. 5 Valedictory Session Mr. K. Subramaniam, Secretary Technical Eduction, Commissioner cum Director, Directorate of Technical Education, Raipur graced the session as Chief Guest. In his speech he told that a teacher who gives shape to the career of students, should realize that his innovation & creativity in education or research will be beneficial not only for the student, but for the society as well as the institution. His attitude should be to encourage research along with teaching because research & development is the primary concept for technical education. Certificates were distributed to all the participants. Feed back Forms were filled by the delegates and some of the delegates responded with their feedbacks highlighting the pros and cons of the programme. All feedbacks were found to be satisfactory. Mr. Harjeet Singh Hura, Patron and Secretary, Janpragati Education Society, Raipur, concluded the session with Vote of Thanks.
