1 GOLBORNE HIGH SCHOOL Job Description This is a generic school job description relating to a role at Leadership level. It is not expected that the Leadership team member will carry out all of the specified duties concurrently. Areas for specific focus are referred to in the role within the Leadership group document or will be negotiated with the individual. Post Title: Head of Ebacc Faculty Purpose: Under the reasonable direction of the Headteacher, carry out the professional duties of a school teacher as set out in the current School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document (STPCD). Raise standards of student attainment and achievement within the whole curriculum area and monitor and support student progress. Be accountable for student progress and development within the subject area. Develop and enhance the teaching practice of others and hold them to account. Ensure the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students studying in the department, in accordance with the school's aims and curricular policies. Be accountable for leading, managing and developing the curriculum area. Provide leadership to ensure high quality education for all and improved standards of learning and achievement in Ebacc and across the curriculum. Be an outstanding classroom practitioner. Headteacher, Deputy Headteachers, Senior Leadership Team; managers; teaching and support staff; LA representatives, external agencies, parents and members of the community. 2 Operational/ Strategic Planning Lead the development of appropriate syllabi, resources, schemes of work, marking policies, assessment and teaching and learning strategies in the department. Be responsible for the day-to-day management, control and operation of course provision with the faculty, including effective deployment of staff and physical resources. Prepare students fully for the requirements of external and internal examinations, liaising with the Examinations Officer re: requirements for the curriculum/ subject area. Monitor teaching in the faculty and actively follow up student progress. Implement school policies and procedures, e.g. equal opportunities, health and safety, accommodation strategy, etc. Work with colleagues to formulate aims, objectives and strategic plans for the department which have coherence and relevance to the needs of students and to the aims, objectives and strategic plans of the school. Lead and manage the planning function of the faculty, and to ensure that the planning activities of the department reflect the needs of students within the subject areas, SIP/DIP and the aims and objectives of the school. Ensure that the work in the curriculum area fully reflects the school's distinctive ethos and mission. Assist the Headteacher in leading and managing the creation and implementation of a strategic plan for securing school improvement which identifies priorities and targets for ensuring that students achieve high standards and make progress. Create a positive ethos and provide educational vision and direction, which secures effective teaching, successful learning, achievement by students and sustained improvement in their development. Lead by example, provide inspiration and motivation, vision and purpose in line with the aims of the school. Analyse and interpret relevant data, research and inspection evidence to inform the Headteacher and other audiences. Provide information, objective advice and support to the Headteacher and Governing Body. Have an ambitious and transparent vision for the department. Curriculum Provision: Liaise with the Assistant Headteacher in charge of Curriculum & Assessment to ensure the delivery of an appropriate, comprehensive, high quality and cost-effective curriculum programme which complements school self evaluation and the School Improvement Plan. Be accountable for the development and delivery of the curriculum area and other curriculum areas as delegated by the Headteacher.

3 Curriculum Development: Lead curriculum development for the whole faculty. Keep up to date with national developments in the subject area and teaching practice and methodology. Actively monitor and respond to curriculum development and initiatives at national, regional and local levels. Liaise with the Assistant Head to maintain accreditation with the relevant examination and validating bodies. Be responsible for the development of RWCM. Ensure that the development of the curriculum area is in line with national developments, e.g. assessment without levels, staged curriculum. Staffing Staff Development: Recruitment/ Deployment of Staff Work with the Headteacher to ensure that staff development needs are identified and that appropriate programmes are designed to meet such needs. Support the Headteacher in ensuring that professional duties and conditions of employment of teachers and support staff are fulfilled. Take responsibility for own professional development, including time management issues. Be responsible for the Faculty s efficient and effective deployment of the support staff. Undertake Performance Management Review(s) and to act as reviewer for a group of staff within the Faculty. Make appropriate arrangements for classes when staff are absent, ensuring appropriate cover within the Faculty liaising with the Cover Supervisor/relevant staff to secure appropriate cover within the department. Participate in the interview process for teaching posts when required and to ensure effective induction of new staff in line with school procedures. Promote teamwork and to motivate staff to ensure effective working relations. Ensure NQT induction is conducted in line with school policy. Participate in the school s ITT programme. Be responsible for the day-to-day management of staff within the designated department and act as a positive role model.

4 Quality Assurance: Management Information and Administration: Ensure that Teaching & Learning initiatives (as defined in school development plan) are developed across the faculty. Ensure the effective operation of quality control systems. Establish the process of the setting of targets within the faculty and to work towards their achievement. Establish common standards of practice within the faculty and develop the effectiveness of teaching and learning styles in all subject areas within the faculty. Assist the Headteacher in monitoring, evaluating and reviewing the effects of policies, priorities and targets of the school in practice and take action as necessary. Implement school quality procedures and to ensure adherence to those within the faculty. Monitor and evaluate the curriculum area in line with agreed school procedures including evaluation against quality standards and performance criteria. Seek/implement modification and improvement where required. Ensure that the faculty's quality procedures meet the requirements of self evaluation and the Strategic Plan. Assist the Headteacher in monitoring, evaluating and reviewing the effects of the school improvement plan to secure progress and school improvement. Ensure the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date information concerning the faculty on the management information system. Make use of analysis and evaluate performance data provided. Identify and take appropriate action on issues arising from data, systems and reports; setting deadlines where necessary and reviewing progress on the action taken. Produce reports within the quality assurance cycle for the faculty. Produce reports on examination performance, including the use of value-added data. In conjunction with the relevant Assistant Headteacher, manage the faculty's collection of data. Provide the Headteacher and the Governing Body with information relating to delegated areas of responsibility concerning to performance and developments. Account for the efficiency and effectiveness of the delegated areas of responsibility to the Headteacher, Governing Body and other relevant stakeholders.

5 Communications: Ensure that all members of the faculty are familiar with its aims and objectives. Ensure effective communication/consultation as appropriate with the parents of students. Liaise with partner schools, higher education, industry, examination boards, awarding bodies and other relevant external bodies. Represent the faculty's views and interests. Contribute to the planning and delivery of school liaison activities. Lead the development of effective subject links with partner schools and the community, promoting subjects effectively at liaison events in school, partner schools and the wider community. Promote actively the development of effective subject links with external agencies. Judge when to make decisions, and when to consult with others, including external agencies. Management of Resources Manage the available resources of space, staff, money and equipment efficiently within the limits, guidelines and procedures laid down; including deploying the budget, acting as a cost centre holder, requisitioning, organising and maintaining equipment and stock, and keeping appropriate records. Work with the Assistant Headteacher in charge of Curriculum and Assessment in order to ensure that the Department's teaching commitments are effectively and efficiently time-tabled and roomed. Pastoral System Monitor and support the overall progress and development of students within the faculty. Monitor student attendance together with students' progress and performance in relation to targets set for each individual, ensuring that follow-up procedures are adhered to and that appropriate action is taken where necessary. Ensure the behaviour management system is implemented in the department so that effective learning can take place. Ethos Play a full part in the life of the school community, supporting its distinctive mission and ethos and encouraging staff and students to follow this example. Support the school in meeting its legal requirements for worship. Promote actively the school s corporate policies. Comply with the school s health and safety policy and undertake risk assessments as appropriate. Teaching Undertake an appropriate programme of teaching in accordance with the duties of a standard scale teacher
